I can't play today.............look at the fun you all are having.
I am cooking away for my friend and her family tonight................pork tenders are marinating in soy sauce, pineapple juice and garlic................
back to the kitchen.
As to saving money on pots........I can't just not pot up when it is time to do so............just can't do it. Someone can certainly use their own soil and my pot...................avs get really gawky in a hurry when left in a solo cup too long.........
September Gessies #3
I want to get more pets too . . . I like the one I got from Rob's . . . will see if they have any more at the Austin sale next month . . .
When is the Austin sale? I loved that show last year, Nichole. Remember the lady who grew all the wild things last year?
Nic,
Could you look for me also? I only have two but had more and I really liked them... I could send you money to pick me up one or two....
Gail, how is your cooking coming? You are a very nice person to do such a great thing for a friend.... You get special hugs today...{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Gail}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Hugs,
Susan
I need an extra hug today (LOL)..............just cooking away all day long but this couple and their adult kids are the most loving family in the world, so worth all the effort.
But..........confession time...........you see, I have a good friend named Turtlechi on the Av forum. 25 of her plumerias are in a box on my kitchen floor waiting to be potted up tomorrow. The soil and pots have broken me (financially.....that is) (smiling)....................they are all ready for the big day tomorrow.
We won't go into what kind of trade we made.............but I think I came out the winner in this. (I know I did). When I get them all potted up tomorrow and a couple of weeks have gone by so that the foliage is coming back, I will take pictures for everyone!!! I am so excited I have to tell, Susan!!!!
I need to find out when the Austin show is as my son lives there and I wouldn't miss it for the world.........so I will be going, too (I hope)
I need a picture with this post so I can go back to cooking again..............These 3 pics are Russian.........
Thank you so much Gail....I know they went to a good home :-) It was very nice of you to buy them from me... I also know what the pots and soil cost you as I have been there done that...LOL Thank you once again... I don't mean this to be cocky but yes you are right you came out ahead... BUT so did I as I know I will get to see them bloom sooner at your home then mine... So it was well worth it... ^_^ and we both won :-)
Ok Gail, I may be confused but hey what else is new...LOL So are there Russian streps or are there only Russian Av's? Beautiful Av's
Hugs,
Susan
There are both Russian african violets (woo hoo) and Russian streps (woo hoo, too)
I didn't know whether I should say I bought them..............but I can't wait until they bloom and I bet they do this fall...............maybe I am rushing that...........spring for sure!!!!!
If these 90 degree days stay another month or so, I bet I see blooms!!!!!
I don't mind that people know you paid me... you twisted my arm..LOLOL No really you were very good about my craze's about selling... You know me... :-) They will bloom much faster for you then for me... I have six this year blooming... the bigger they get the more often they will bloom...
Thanks about explaining about the Russian plants...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
Sorry I didn't answer sooner. Took the kids to Mickey D's to burn off some excess energy!
Anyway, the Austin show is:
Event Date: 10/17/2009 - 10/18/2009
Time: Sat: 10am -4:30 pm Sun. 1-4pm
Susan - send me a dmail with the plants you are looking for, and I will look for them for you.
Will do Nic, and thanks :-)
Sue
Thanks, Nichole for the dates........gee this fall is already busy and we have both Austin in Oct. and state convention the first week of November.
Nah..........I didn't twist your arm. I just found out in a hurry that you are just as obsessive compulsive as I am. A normal person would have had to think about buying them at any price a long long time. It took me 5 seconds to jump at the chance you offered! (LOL)
Amy, your Pets are darlin! I really like the rosetifolia(sp?) and Minor. I love the plant 'Shortnin Bread' just for the name alone!:)
I'm going to get around to ordering these leaves soon! Had to go out to a crab feast with the family. We are back now and I'm exhausted. I think I ate too many crabs!
Connie, thanks for the info on Violet Gallery. They right in my backyard, so to speak(PA). I'm going to email them later tonight with my order. I bought more perlite and some more pans today in anticipation, plus i still need to finish potting up the rest of the strep leaves from Jim. I'm going to put one of his leaves down toaster style in my truffle bowl. I did that with Bristol's Hey Mei last year in straight perlite in this bowl. The results were phenomenal. Lots of babies faster than the other way of sticking leaves.
You are very welcome Shanika , I am sure you will be pleased with what you receive from violetgallery they are very nice people , I emailed them an order yesterday but haven't heard back yet .
I too like to do the as you call it the toaster type of strep planting , I love the description :) I get many babies too but they never seem to live , they grwo really well for a few months and then just dry up and die :( but I will keep trying till I get it right , please let me know when your order comes and what you think of it , i hope you are soooooooooooo happy with it :)
Warm Hugs ,
Connie :)
Hey y'all ... don't forget to leave feedback for The Violet Gallery at the Gardenwatchdog: http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/c/2735/
I didn't even know the watchdog had any av or strep vendors..........I order from LLG all the time..........need to leave newer feedback..........also VioletVenture is one we all use for leaves, too.
That is Faye Wagman.............
I have most of David Thompson Gloxinias he hybridized. I took cuttings from each plant and they all bloomed true to the first blooms except this one. She is just as pretty as the mother but very different in bloom color.
I took a very close up as I wanted you to see the purple polka dots on the outer part.
Your pic is gorgeous Gail , so it is a sport of it's parent then ?
Shanika , I emailed my order to violetgallery yesterday and Brenda emailed me back today so I guess my order is in , I will be excitedly waiting it's arrival , I hope you get all the leaves you want , they do have so many to choose from , it kind of surprises me that they have so many that people will pay a small fortune for on ebay , when I see a leaf of something going for lots of bucks I go to violetgallery and they have it for their regular price , I saw a Sulu Queen go for 15.00 for 1 leaf on ebay and VG had it for the regular price they charge for 2 leaves , just don't get it but maybe they feel they own something special if they pay a lot for it but then if it dies I wonder how they feel :)
I hope you all have a wonderful week , wish the weekend went on for a couple more days :)
Nicole , I am glad my pic of Museum of Art helped it is a lovely plant and it is one of only a few that is growing really well for me :)
Connie
Guess what!!! I did get mixed up. David said that this one is called Helen................
Connie,
I have to make myself pass up another leaf order (LOL)
I don't care what the name is but it is beautiful.... I am also grateful for the name of places to buy leaves from... I most of the time buy from ebay... For the new friends on here there is one place I got streps from and they send BIG plants for your money.... They just don't have allot of different ones... They are Brennan's Orchids....
We met my youngest sons girlfriend today... I never knew my son could blush a very beet red before today...LOLOL Poor kid... He is not a kid but a young man... he is still a baby to me as he is the baby....LOL
Ok reading a book....
Hugs to all,
Susan
Connie,
Where is your picture of MOA? Maybe I am blind tonight...LOL I am hoping to still have one of these alive... :-(
Hugs,
Susan
I found mine today growing away, thats turtlechi
LOL Jim, If I don't have one I may be asking for a leaf...LOL I am going to get back to my book.....
Hugs,
Susan
ok
Amy, thanks for the pet pics! I am dying to try a few. Your chirita is gorgeous too. Wish you would post more....or that everyone who has them would post. I can only assume that not many people have them.
I have chiritas coming out my ears and love them...............will post some day. Too many plants, too little time and taking photos is time consuming although I love to see the pics, too.
Hi Susan , here it is again , the flower is on my mom plant that hasn't gotten big yet but it's child ( one I grew from a leaf is bigger and just starting to bloom ) it reminds me a lot of Web of Intrigue , maybe David Thompson used Museum of art to make Web of Intrigue but here is my museum bloom :) ............one more time :)
Connie
Please please someone save me another leaf of Museum of Art (LOL)..............I just oooh and aaah every time I see her.
gee do i know you?wait that kinda thing gets me in trouble when i say it
I will gail
Behave Jim, Oh your Mom's flower is so pretty..... Nice job on growing from a leaf... I think I have one alive but not to sure... Will try and look tomorrow....
Hugs,
Susan
;)
Connie,
I heard back from them this morning, so it sounds like it's a go! I'm so excited! I have solo cups, mix and domed containers awaiting their arrival. I agree with you about some of the prices on ebay, in particular for the leaves that are sold elsewhere for much less money. I suppose, though, if it's a hard to find one, I would bid too.
Let me know when you get your order! I am going to post feedback on Garden Watchdog.
Gail...my camera and computer refused to cooperate this morning...as I spent most of it trying to get a picture of my poor leaf that is sprouting white 'things' instead of 'ears'...
when u get his, click on 'new' and the picture should come up...or else let me know...I have a new printer and altho' I can usually upload pictures and send right from my computer....the printer wants to get in on the act...................I usually use Picassa, but i doesn't recognize my camera........................maybe u can see what i am talking about, I hope so..
thanks, Bonnie
As long as you are isolating it...............I would get my fingers and remove all that white stuff....it may be harmless but it also might by powdery mildew which is easy to remove with alcohol or a 3 in 1 fungicide spray.............but I would definitely treat it some way..........I get a Qtip and dip it in alcohol.........
It is hard to see......sometimes that white fuzzy stuff is harmless and sometimes not when I can't see well enough..........maybe someone else will chime in and try to help you.
Wow Gail, your eyes are better then mine as I can't see the picture... We are going golfing after dinner so maybe when I get home I will be able to take a few pictures of plants blooming for the first time... Work tomorrow.. LOL
Hugs,
Susan
Hi All :)
Shanika I too heard back from Brenda of Violetgallery and my order is in so I will be happily growing all Winter :) I spent several hours potting up plants that were in too small pots so I will have the time to plant the leaves I get although i ordered mostly plants as then I am not over run with too many leaves to pot up , I get kind of stressed when I have too many to pot up all at once and then I can take leaves of the plants as I wish without the stress :) I will let you know when I get my order and I will leave feedback as well , i didn't know i could leave feedback for vendors but I will leave it for a few people :)
I am excited like you , plants just brighten my days and in the Winter they are even more important to me and my daycare kids like to help me take care of them and I like to take leaves and let the kids start leaves too , they get excited when they finally get babies coming but the time gets long waiting so I cheat a bit and let them start taking care of some that already have babies coming after they wait for 2 or 3 weeks , kids as tiny as mine need the results sooner than older kids and i always have some babies coming on leaves somewhere in the house so I just sub them and they find it so fun :)
Anyway I hope you just do somersaults when your order comes .............but be sure you salut on a mat so no ooweys result :)
Hugs :)
Connie
LOL don't know how to spell oueey owey , well anyway no boo boos but that doesn't rhyme :)
Connie :)
