Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Amy is so nice to let me start a new thread with Optimara Little Moonstone.

Let me see if I can do this the right way.

You did great, Gail! :o)

I REALLY LOVE Opt. Little Moonstone!! You'll understand if I'm jealous, right? LOL ;o)

Here's my contribution for the week. LOL

Sinningia sp. 'Vivian'

Sinningia sp. 'Nocturne' Spectacularly beautiful, dark blooms. This picture was taken with the flash, but when you look at it in natural light, it's almost black in the throat. Gorgeous!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

I don't think I've posted any of these before. Please forgive me if I have.

Sinningia 'Seminole' Love the flowers, hate the leaves. It's so hard to keep them looking pretty. :oP

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Sinningia 'Playful Porpoise' Has the same type of leaves as Sinn. 'Seminole' but these are even harder to keep pretty. This picture was taken a couple of weeks ago and you can see where I had trimmed some of the leaves. It now has 8 open flowers, but the leaves look completely horrible, so I'm not posting a picture of it now. I'm thinking I may cut it back so it can start growing all over again, and I'll mist it a couple times a day. Maybe that will help the leaves.

Eucodonia 'Tiny Tot' Love this one! It's so fuzzy! I just wish it didn't flop over so much. :oP

Petrocosmea barbata - Lin, this is the one you sent me! I love this plant! Cute little blooms!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

A close up of Petrocosmea barbata blooms, just because I think it's worthy! LOL The one bloom is starting to fade, but still...

great pics...........have to go to the grocery store .........to cook for a family where my good friend is dying of both brain and lung cancer.

Oh Gail, I'm so sorry! I'll keep your friend and their family in my prayers. May God give them peace and comfort.

(Zone 1)

Oh my goodness ... such beautiful blooms! I sure wish I had space inside my house for light stands, that Optimara Little Moonstone makes me want to try AV's again! And Amy, Wow! Look at those Gorgeous Gloxinia's, they are really amazing! Oooh ... Pet Barbata is soo cute, I never could get it to do anything for me, it just sat there and never seemed to grow much or bloom ... you have the touch Amy! I've seen pic's of some Petrocosmea's lately and it sure was hard not to go in search of a company selling them! It's just real hard for me to care for plants inside when I'm outside all the time ... anything inside the house seems to get neglected.

(Zone 1)

Amy: Please consider adding info to PF for Pet. Barbata: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/143181/ and PF listing REALLY needs those great photo's!!

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

All very pretty. Lin, I have noticed that you have posted some awesome pics in the files. I will look up something and there is a pic sent in by you. Thanks for sharing them.

(Zone 1)

Why Thank You Connie! I enjoy sharing a photo if it turns out decent, but I am not a good at photography. Cameras are just too technical for me, I have read and re-read through my manual but my brain doesn't retain much. I did finally learn to use the macro setting on my camera. I will take 50 or more pictures and maybe have just one or two that are decent, sometimes I delete every one because they are blurry or not sharp. I notified admin a few days back to delete a picture I had put in PF for some plant because I took another that was much clearer. I know there are lots more that I need to look at and have admin delete. I feel great when I get a few pic's that turn out halfway decent!

Rain,
Your Sinn. look great!! I have trouble keeping some of mine from looking raggedy too,but then I do neglect the poor things sometimes.I think my one Eucodonia might be setting buds.I need to look.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, I do miss my camera . . . DH comes back Sunday night . . . my Alsobia San Miguel has a bloom. I took a pic with the old camera, and it didn't come out very well . . .

Nice pix, Rain!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Amy, what beautiful pictures... I love the purple one.... That Av that you all started off this av forum with is beautiful... I did not know at first it was an av...LOL
Lin, Here is what I use to fertilizer my plumerias with... Hawaiian Bud and Bloom 5-50-17 I get it on line... It is what I have used since I got them....
Hugs to all,
Susan

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan.............please tell me where on line to get this Hawaiian bud and bloom..........want to order some..............thanks!!!!

I couldn't even find Miracle Grow potting soil today............they said it was 'fall'..........I asked the lady if she knew the temps today...........we are having a cool front and so it is only 93 today................sure, winter is just around the corner (LOL)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

The 'garden section' at the Walmart just down the street . . . I kid you not . . . has half an isle left of anything garden related! The rest is plastic containers, home wares, etc.

I went to a different Walmart this morning, and at least that one still had a 'garden' section. Got a sorry looking spider plant. I was looking forward to the seeds going on sale . . .

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Amy, is your eucodonia grown from seed? It is so pretty!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I think (not sure) that we all got boxes from Gary Mikita (surprise boxes) and they all had eucodonia and other weird gesneriads in the boxes.................

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Has anyone ever grown - or seen a full grown strep called Museum of Art? How tall does it actually get?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I think it is a small one........pretty sure!! marjorie had one a couple of years ago.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I sent a message to teaz at ebay . . . she says it gets to pretty decent size. The baby I've got could just be an over achiever! It'll be nice to see a bloom, even if it's a baby. Another few days should tell. The bud is dark on the outside . . .

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have lost (for an unknown reason 3 tries at a Museum of Art leaf). The leaves were small cuts though.

Lin, I LOVE Petrocosmeas! I have either 14 or 15 different species/varieties. I can't help but get every one I see that I don't already have! LOL I'd be happy to send you some leaves if you'd like.

I've been thinking that I ought to upload some pictures to the PF. I've probably got a lot I could add. I'll get to work on that. Thanks for reminding me, Lin! :o)

Lynn, I don't usually have too much trouble with Sinn leaves, but the ones that have that type of leaf that 'Playful Porpoise' has just look awful. Oh well, the flowers are gorgeous!

Susan, that's Gail's AV that started this thread. Isn't it gorgeous?!

Thanks, Nichole! And just so you know it's not just your area, we went to Walmart tonight, and the entire "seasonal" department is Halloween stuff! I mean really, there are probably 20 aisles of Halloween stuff. Crazy! Not a single flower pot or bag of perlite in sight. *sigh* Aggravates me...

Shanika, that Eucodonia wasn't grown from seed. It came in the box from Gary Mikita. I'm planning to propagate it this winter so I'll have some to trade in the spring. ;o)

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

On the subject of Miracle Grow and Walmart, last year in October or early November, the local Walmart had the HUGE bags on clearance for $2,$3 and $5,depending on which formula you wanted. We don't have a truck, but we made a bunch of trips!!

I adore Museum Of Art,but have never tried her.Same with Seren.

I've got a few more things to post. I hate to take up the entire thread, but I don't know when I'll have time to post stuff again, so want to do it while I can. :o)

Sinningia leucotricha - I LOVE fuzzy plants, but fuzzy flowers really take the cake! LOL

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Sinningia HCY's Fire Raindrops Very pretty blooms and neat, compact, well-behaved foliage.

Thumbnail by RainGazer
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow........I wish I could find a clearance on Miracle Grow potting soil but since the temps are in the 90's there will be some..........somewhere..........and they will be full price.........I am sure.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Post away, Rain..........love them!!!!

Speaking of fuzzy plants and blooms, I believe this one gets the award for fuzziest of all! My husband hates fuzzy plants and can hardly stand to even look at this one! LOL

Sinningia araneosa

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Well, I think it's cute!

I've got some Strep pictures coming for you, Gail! ^_^

Chirita 'Stardust' I really need to get more Chiritas. I'd forgotten how much I like them!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Petrocosmea formosa - Pets are just dreamy to me! LOL So easy to grow! Really, they're the easiest of all my Gessies. This one has a BIG flower for a Pet, too!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Thanks, Nichole! I knew I'd find some appreciation for that sweet plant here!

AV 'Laser Celebration' Just got this from Violet Gallery a month, maybe 6 weeks, ago.

Thumbnail by RainGazer

(AV) Saintpaulia velutina - Also from Violet Gallery. I wanted S. velutina lite, but they were out. Now that I've seen these gorgeous leaves, I'm going to have to get the lite!

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Strep 'Texas Hot Chili' Wow! Hot indeed! :oD

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Strep 'Shenandoah Sugarplum' I got this from Nancy last year. I miss her. :o(

Thumbnail by RainGazer

Strep 'Designer Genes' Hybridized by Nancy Block, if memory serves. I really love her Streps. I want one of those "dilute" ones of hers.
