Pretty pretty pretty!
DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 70
jmorth..... I find that sometimes if I load the picture first and then preview and add my text it will take it a lot quicker. It is really flustrating to type a whole post and then not be able to load the picture! I have found that to be the case a lot especially during peak hours.
Mrs Ed...Not sure but I think it looks like the same one to me. Not sure what kind of skipper it is, but I know what it isn't..... It isn't listed on your county! LOL! Looks like you need to send them some pics, I am sure you have posted more than one skipper! http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/map?dc=5344&_dcc=1&si=14
Very nice shot. Wish I could help on the id's but there are so many skippers.
Oh, I completely missed the fact that they were the same! Doh! The lighting is a bit different, but I would say with the tear drop and bordered edge on the underwing it is the same too. Maybe tomorrow someone will pop in with an id for y'all.
Yah, there were two of them in the same area that were the same. Not sure to be honest if I took pictures of both or not.
I was talking about your pic and Jmorth both being the same kind of skipper; hadn't noticed that at first.
oh. I thought your post was before hers. oh well, no worries. Yah, I think mine and hers are the same, which is so interesting too!
I looked through a ton of grass skippers and couldn't find anything though. I don't have any field books either.
hers?
his?
lol
J as in Jack
Well then. So Sorry!
Now we know Jack! LOL!
And pretty sure I won't forget it!
LOL! All is forgiven.
Jack, it's all your fault! I'm now falling in love with New England Aster! My daughter who lives in Maryland asked me if she could plant Asters in Md. I've encouraged her to try for I've seen beautiful Asters blooming in Maryland last Fall. Personally I don't believe they do well here in our hot and humid SouthEastern region. I'm loving those pictures that you've shared with the abundant number of butterflies on New England Asters.
I visited the Northeastern Tenn. 2 weeks past. A friends has many Lavenders planted in the garden and I've got to see hundreds of variegated Gulf Frits. The sight was mesmerizing and dream-like.
Jack, those are just great. I wonder why I have hardly any butterflies this year.
J North -- Mrs. Ed -- your unidentified skipper is actually a moth. Looks like a Celery Looper Moth (Anagrapha falcifera). These guys often fly during the day.

interesting. Thanks!
Thanks Dale for keeping us straight! I didn't even consider it to be a moth.
Mrs Ed and jmorth ....you both need to put your best shots in the Bugfiles, which currently only has one pic. http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/987/
okee dokee!
Added one to BF.
Hi everyone! I didn't want to be a thread hog so I posted all my pictures from last weekend here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1041705/
I couldn't believe how many species I saw within a few hours. I didn't even manage to get a picture of the Spicebush ST or the Orange-Barred Sulphur!
In continuing my tradition of butterfly porn, here is a pair of Long-Tailed Skippers I caught at MOSI this weekend. I literally caught them, too. I put them in the flight cage so they'll lay me some eggs!
In this position, I think I'd prefer to be on top, LOL!!
Mom's getting good with that camera too! Hope you get the eggs Melanie.
Well, finally! I thought my Two-tailed Tiger chrysalises weren't ever coming out. But now, THREE of them eclosed. Have to wait until a.m. to let them go and they weren't doing so well with the sticks, so I cut fresh branches for them...nothing too good for the TTTigers!. I needed to prune that bush anyway.
