I am so happy for you Clare. I bet you are so relieved!
those are wonderful pictures of him-I didn't realize how much he looks like Bear-esp in the coloration. the legs, eyebrows, coat etc
Here Is Bear
great summer for plumeria blooms!
Thanks, Terry. He just slipped and fell twice while walking. Terrible. I have to buy him a better harness so that I can hold him up better when he trips. He's over 150 pounds so holding him up isn't easy.
I am definitely relieved that he is eating and walking again and getting back to normal. He cheated death once more!
He does look a lot like Bear. He is half German Shorthair Pointer and half Rottweiler. Your Bear looks like he could have some Rott in him? He used to look a lot like Bear until all this grey and white hair started coming in.
It is the Rott that is similar. Bear is Rott, Chow, Lab and scared....lol
See that white just at the end of his muzzle? that is what I was talking about. Seeing that and knowing that he is getting older-even though he is only 6.5 yrs old. After going through old age with a few of them, you know what is coming. He already doesn't run much like he used to. His idea of playing with Chloe is doing a little running and then flopping on his back with his legs in the air and taking bites at Chloe when she leans down to chew on his ears or legs. Its all about being in the prone position for him! lol
Bentley is staying with us for 5 days while Will is out of town. Chloe is so excited to have him here-someone who will run with her and play while he stays upright!
LOL! Ah, yes, I see the gray hairs coming in at the front of his face. Duke has so much white on him now that he didn't used to have. Your Bear is a big boy too and may have trouble with arthritis and getting up like Duke does now. I have so much Rimadyl that I got for Duke. It really helps him to walk. When he passes, I'll send the rest to you if there is some left over. I bought some stuff called JointMax, but he doesn't like the taste of it and won't eat it. I have tons of Greenies too in new unopened boxes that he doesn't eat anymore. I need your address so I can send it all to you. Send me a dmail or email with your address when you have a chance.
Nub's blooming. I am guessing it's a celadine (sp-is it "celadone" or "celadine") ? If so, its a nicer bloom than the other celadine that I have-bloom is larger, color brighter and scent is a bit stronger. So what is it?
Hows the big boy today? Bentley went home today-but he had a great time while he was here.
That is exciting Dan!! Now where is a picture of a pet of yours??? lol I don't think that you read the rules to this thread that we did not post, but you have to show an animal as well....
You know -- there is not a big enough white band around the yellow to be 'Celadine,' but I could be wrong about that. It looks a bit like 'Lemon Chiffon,' but there isn't enough gap between petals for that one. It is lovely whatever it is.
Oh, those pictures are so great. They should be framed; they are so lovely. Classic. They are such majestic animals.
It sounds like 'Kauka Wilder' from your description, Dan. My KW is blooming now also (see picture below). It is an awesome cultivar.
Duke is now back to normal. His head tilt is gone; his energy is up; he is eating normally; and best of all, he is going potty outside. I snatched my baby back from the brink of death. No one is dying on my watch!
By the way, did you know that I call him "Dukeybear" a lot of the time?

I didn't think that it had enough white either, and when you look at the bloom in person, its even less white-if that is possible. I was surprised to the white that there is in the picture. Its almost all yellow. I picked Celadine as a guess because it is so common and this is, afterall, the nub that we are talking about.....
It is a good picture, actually makes me want to go take some more.
edited to say that I am so happy about Duke-you should have been a nurse!

LOL! I am taking care of my elderly mother-in-law right now, and she said the same thing. I told her that I once considered it but decided that I really don't like being around sick people. LOL!
If your yellow has a red band on the back and smells like peaches, it could be 'Aztec Gold.' 'Lemon Chiffon' has a fantastic fragrance and very large blooms, but the petals are more separated from each other.
LOL allrighty then Dan! It wasn't what I was expecting, but it will do....in fact kind of cool. At first I thought it was a cement statue. Do you know what he/she is ? I am guessing a falcon? It may be someone's falcon, that had it for falconry, and thats why you can get so close? Your new hobby. Very nice picture though. If it gets sick, you can always send it to Clare! That would be sort of funny.
Clare, it is very close to being all white on the back-just a very faint tinge of a yellow thin band running up each petal. the nub needs a name-darn it!!
I have no clue what it is, the closest thing i can see is a Broad Winged Hawk. I think he just got the neighbors yorkie terrier though. One minute He was on the post the next I heard the little dog yelping and no hawk in sight :(
Man, this has turned in the Dangerous Animals show on Animal Planet! lol hope you don't have any small animals. We had some kind of huge pelican looking bird going after the goldfish in the water garden. I wish I had gotten a picture of him. I am pretty sure that he wasn't a pelican, but he was huge. Maybe your neighbors need to know Clare's address for some nursing relief?
Ha ha. Well I did some research on the Broad Winged Hawk so if he is what I think he is, he is just merely stopping in for a while while he migrates south.
Oh, my, that is a beautiful bird, and I think Terry is right that it is a falcon. They are incredible hunters -- going after rats, squirrels, mice, birds, and other small animals. It's impressive.
LOL, Terry. I don't think I could care for it because I wouldn't be able to stand feeding it!
I was just guessing about what it is. I think that would be so traumatic to be outside with your cat/kitten and this bird swoops in and takes the cat off-just like that. Clare, I think he takes care of his own feeding, worst case-close your eyes and throw him a mouse or something small.
LOL! I still couldn't do that to the poor mouse. I'm almost sure that's a falcon. My neighbor in Buellton was a wildlife biologist with his specialty as birds of prey for the U.S. forest service or some preserve somewhere.
When I lived in Buellton, my cat was almost killed by a white owl. My neighbor's cat disappeared. It had a nest of babies in the trees on our property. I thought it was only going after mice and rats and squirrels in our field until it tried to carry off our cat Madam. It broke her jaw, and she had to have surgery. She recovered but lost a couple of teeth for good. She didn't go outside for about two years after that -- even after we moved from the area. Owls grab their prey and fly high and then drop their prey to kill it and swoop down for it. Madam was lucky to survive such an attack.
