What is the function of "manage my friends and groups"?

Sorry, but I have not noticed this category on my profile page before.
Too busy in the garden I guess. ;)
Where do I find info on it's function and how to use it?

At least for now, I think all it does is let you save people to a group, and then if you want to send a dmail to everyone in that group you can send a dmail to everyone at once vs having to dmail everyone individually. From that link, you can create a group and add people to it (and delete them later if desired). Once you've got a group created, you can also add people by going to their member page and there you'll see a link to add them to one of your groups.

Thanks, ecrane, for the info,

I can see where that would be a useful tool and also have future applications.
One comes to mind, such as the "facebook" type environment where I can see posts of my friends and family.
This is a large website and it would be nice to see what others we are close to are active in. There is so much going on, and so many things to enjoy.
