I live near Southampton Water in Southern England and right now there is some sort of boat thingy on down at the docks. Forgive me for not knowing the proper name for it but the boat shows and races that start here are close to endless in the summer and I have no interest whatsoever in boats. I get seasick standing in puddles.
Everytime a liner comes in like the QE2 or these races we have several hours of banging, sparkly things which go on for days, the current one has been making itself known for 3 hours.
Trouble is I'm absolutely terrified of sparks, have been ever since I was a child. I've tried to go to firework displays and even managed to stand still while needing to talk to a collegue while he was welding but the repeated questions of was I ill I have gone white made me admit my fear and he stopped welding to laugh. I'm safe indoors and the noise doesn't bother me but it does prevent me from going outside unless absolutely necessary on nights like these.
Please anyone where can I go to live without ever having to come across another firework ever? LOL
Fireworks
LOL Baa, we don't have many here! We're far enough away from all of the "official" fireworks sites so that the most we get is distant booming. Once in a great while some of the neighbors will get some for the 4th of July, but as they are illegal, it doesn't happen often.
Baa, how about the Galapagos Islands....lol!! Hey, you are really serious aren't you? I wonder if something happened to you when you were younger to make you so frightened?? I am not too keen on hand-held fireworks as a matter of fact because when I was about 3 years old and living in Ireland, some big kid actually put a lighted jumping jack down the back of my polo-neck sweater. I have a scar on my neck now!
Ohh Kathleen a place where fireworks are illegal? Sounds like paradise!
Louisa no I'm not kidding LOL I've tried to get over it but it will take a long time and meanwhile the constant barrage doesn't help!
Nothing happened when I was younger, I honestly don't know why I can't bear them. That was a nasty thing for another child to do to you I hope he got his/her just desserts for doing that.
Dear me Baa - I hope the barraging ceases pretty soon in that case - sorry love, it's obviously distressing you!
oooooooooo poor baby, good things get better soon.
luv nana
Don't ever come here to India - during the Deepavali/Diwali festival. That's the time when the fire-crackers and all sort of fireworks go on. Lot's of sparks fly at night from almost every home. That's somewhere in October each year.
Awww thank you Nana!
Dinu
I worked for an Indian company just recently and some of your celebrations look wonderful and I just love all the decorating you do! I kept asking to be sent to India for a short 'educational' trip but it was no go :(.
Diwali is your festival of light isn't it?
Yes indeed, Baa.
Baa, my 2 yr old grandson is still having problems due to the 4th of July fireworks. great kid, no known hangups, but he started having nightmares and can't sleep by himself since that night. He used to go get himself ready for bed and wait for mom and dad to come say night, but now he is really having problems and has not slept in his bed the entire night since. I hope he gets over it. :(
