Apropos of Nothing...

Did everyone forget about wanting Ginger to bring her DH? That would have been something to add to the scene.
Maybe fate really does intervene on occasion and kept both Ginger and summerkid elsewhere that RU weekend.

not just a nut for dahlias?
i'm rethinking my moniker: summernut

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

SK, she sounds just like my Willow. Nobody ever messed with Willow, but I didn't ever see her do anything to stop them. Somehow they just knew. And my little Agelina Ballerina has kitty-aspergers, so she's always doing dorky stuff, like running right up to other cats and staring at them. But she never messed with Willow.

Sadly, a coyote got Willow in the [fenced] back yard a couple of summers ago. I'm all for live and let live, but if I'd had a gun right then . . . Bug almost went through the front window to get the coyote and I seriously thought about letting him out. I miss Willow . . .

Oh Katie, I can't stand it. Lovely, precious Willow.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been slavishly devoted to "Design Star" on HGTV for all 4 seasons. Tonight was the season finale & I was sort of teasing myself, letting it record before being allowed to watch it. Finally could stand it no longer, turned on the TV & was fiddling with the "recorded programs" button on my remote ... and a promo comes on that says "Next week! A look inside the world of Antonio Ballatore, the newest winner of 'Design Star'!"

Auggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

I hated that guy. And now I don't even get to root for mine, the loser.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O tears for Willow.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

OMG Katie... poor Willow... I'm so sorry. :(

Summer...

Dream on.

:p

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, guys. I respect the coyotes a little more now and there are no holes under my fence anymore. The dogs are great. They like domestic dogs, but don't like coyotes. And I think they see it as their responsibility to protect the kitties that are out (some cats just won't be in). I try to make sure they're out at dusk . . .

SK, that's a bummer.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Oh Katie, I'm more bummed about Willow right now.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Awww. Thank you. It was a couple of years ago. And my comfort is that it was very quick. Though I do bear some guilt because I think she wasn't afraid enough of dogs. Her (our) dogs are so great with the kitties.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Kathy, so sad about Willow...am SO not a huge coyote fan, and even if your kitty was timid of dogs, those brats hunt in packs so even if she ran, she was probably done for (voice of experience). I will say again, sometimes the circle of life sucks!

Summer, bummer about your show. That's almost worse than one of those loud mouths that come up and say, "You really ought to see this movie, it is just great even if the hero dies in the end....."

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Ditched the yard today and went on what was probably the last motorcycle ride of the season. The weather and company were perfect, although we did end up coming back in the dark. It was very cool though....

There is something almost primeval about riding through a cloud along a mountain cliff with only your friends in sight. Although my steed has a heart of steel, she responds every bit as readily to my touch as a carbon model would, and it was a breathtaking trip.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, Julie. We have a lot of rogue coyotes around here. They have no predators, so they just walk down the middle of the street pretty as you please. Wolves at least have rules about how and where they hunt, but the coyotes are just too wiley and are big chance-takers.

My other cat, Honey Bunny, is a tree-climber, and she got away. I think the tree-climbers have much better chances. I did try to get them both in that night, but they wouldn't come. And I was naive to think a fenced yard would keep them safe. There was no way to keep Willow in the house full time (I have the ripped up carpets and doors to prove it). So at least she was out hunting critters and where she wanted to be . . .

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Breathtaking is right!! Riding through a cloud on a mountain cliff . . . a little to exciting stuff for me. Glad you're home safe.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

AH, Julie- I wish we could have joined you on that ride. Next year...

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Pony, Wish you guys could have been with us...didn't bother to ask again as I didn't want to rub it in! Whistlin' Jacks for burgers (supposed to be lunch, we dinked around enough it was dinner and we were ready to eat the table by the time it got there!). Came back to Chinook covered in a cloud, but it was just awesome and somehow we hit a break in traffic where we were all by our lonesome.

BTW...Joe Rocket came with me and I was roasty toasty on the ride home! Perfect!

Next year we vow many more than one trip!!!!!

(Judi)Portland, OR

Poor Willow - those coyotes are nasty and the sounds they make are bone-chilling.

Julie your bike ride sounds wonderful. I have never been on a motorcycle. Another thing to add to the "must do" list.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm so glad the jacket works for you! I loved that jacket, but I know I'd never fit into it right again.

And yeah, Tracy's still grounded, so we couldn't have gone anyway. It's gonna be a long 6 months... :-/

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Still think he is a better person than I am....I am not generally a rule breaker, but I would SO not be able not to drive for that long!

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

Well, he is an Eagle Scout... honor above all else... I guess. LOL

But yeah, I couldn't do it. I'd be driving anyway.

Poor Willow! Oh NOOO! I hate coyote/cat stories. She was a beautiful cat. At least she had a good life.

Summer, you stole my cat. But nevermind, you can have her. This is Cleo, the bitchiest cat in the world. She whines just to hear her own voice and is never satisfied. Not only that, I'm 100% allergic to her.

This is the cat of my dreams. This is Admiral. Admiral, meet summerkid. I believe he has met everyone else. Admiral is the best cat on this planet, indeed in our entire solar system. I am not allergic to him, he is not annoying in any way, and he is incredibly intelligent. you can tell by the look on his face.

Dahlianut, I didn't remember that you speak fairy. Did you get a glimpse of the photo Tillysrat posted on the other thread (about the roundup)? If you didn't see it, here it is. We discussed it on the roundup thread, near the bottom, but this way you don't have to go looking for it. Tillysrat took the photo using LynnWeidman's camera, at rarejem's home.

:O I do believe in fairys. I do believe.... I wish I'd been there to see that! Thanks pixiedish. I note how the puppy is very nonchalant about having a fairy hitching a ride. Puppies are very savy about fairys. ps Miss you tillysrat on the dahlia forum :( but glad to see you having a wonderful time.

LOl, well you are seeing as much as we did because there were plenty of people standing there when the photo was taken, and no one saw anything unusual. It wasn't until rarejem enlarged the photo and called it to everyone's attention that we noticed anything.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I got nothing done today. Nada. Zip. Zilch. I sat on my butt and read a schlocky romance novel all day. It was glorious.

But I'm feeling very guilty for not getting any work done.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

Today I found the fortitude to knock out some aggravating things like:
1) Call all the debt collectors & patiently explain that I am not Jacob Bush.
2) Create a bill of sale, find a notary AND buy a fax machine & FAX THE DANG THING to the buyer of my Bambi Airstream.
3) Figure out those wacky machines that take the bottles for the deposit. It's too bad that I absent-mindedly peel the labels off, no more of that ...
4) Make all the appointments (hair, doctor, lawyer) appointments for my upcoming trip to Chicago.
5) Get groceries
6) Order halogen lamps & plants.
7) Clean the kitchen
8) Organize the office

Just think! I'd probably be president by now if I had gotten up before noon.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Nice job - esp 2 and 4. That takes some brain power!

I am exhausted by virtually experiencing summerkid's day. Whew! It makes me want to lie down. I think I like Pony's day better, except for the guilt. Out the door with guilt! Away! Away! You had a mini-vacation right there at home. I do hope there were bonbons within reach.

When I got home from work tonight, it was already dusk. :( Boo hoo! no garden time por moi.
On the upside, DH and I are going to the boat show on Thursday. Yippee!!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I was just going through pictures from last May. This is my neighbor's native Lonicera. I have the vine growing over the fence from the woods, but it doesn't bloom like this.

Alas, I had no bonbons. Sigh.

Katie, that's a trippy lookin' flower. Kinda cool.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

I have a playdate! Starting tango lessons on Sunday with my heretofore-Internet-friend Aracelly & her 17-year-old nephew.

I hope he'll dance with ME.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

I took the day off and went to the P Fair yesterday. So much to see and never enough time! Friends who live within walking distance to the Fair (wow, no worry about parking!) asked me to id a couple of plants potted there in their yard. I need help, please. Here is the first.

PTILOTIS EXALTUS---Thanks Melissa

I will see what I can do about getting seeds!

Well whatever they are they are certainly striking - esp the first one. Beautiful!

I spent the day yesterday hiking with Koka and it was a gorgeous day. Leaves are beginning to fall and there was a slight crisp to the breeze. Here comes fall. My favorite season!

First one is Ptilotis exaltus, probably the 'Joey' variety. Better hope it sets seed because this is an annual in our area. It's an Australian plant. I paid 7$ for a packet of seeds of this plant last winter, only to find it being carried in nice gallon sizes at my Lowes for 3.50. Pooh. Never again.

Second one is a tradescantia, but I don't konw the variety.

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Thanks again, Melissa. I added the id to the pictures. I will try to get seeds of the first if I can.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I just bought that Ptilotis at Heidi's. Thanks for the heads up on its hardiness. I was assuming that it was like the other sedums I have. More justification for throwing some money into my greenhouse fund . . .

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Wow! I would have never pegged it as a sedum. How come I can't find it in the plant search?

This message was edited Sep 15, 2009 12:46 PM

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

That's what I get for not opening the whole picture. What I have is NOT a Ptilotus. You're right, Sharon, it looks nothing like a sedum . . . :-D
