2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 8

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Good deal Burd!

Although I haven't been seeing them at the feeders, I went to change water yesterday and would you believe there was one at the texas sage. They are probably in the garden lots more than I realize.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I've been outside for the past few days and have noticed several Hummers on all the different blooms. We had several this morning on all the feeders so still some action in the Ozarks!!

I took this one while laying in the hammock yesterday...just kidding...LOL!

ppbbbt.

With the activity at YOUR house, I'm sure you could take a pix like this from the hammock.

I think it's time for a new camera lens! Who's got 3K to give me.

Cute ones Rose and Mrs Ed! I think Dave might help you out! ;-)

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm so happy right now, I can't make myself leave the backporch. All year I've had a few rubys at a time, but right now it's like rubypalooza! I have 6 feeders, but they all want to be on the same two. Has anyone ever been impaled by a hummer? I could see how it could happen. I have up to 10 rubys, males and females, just on these two feeders sharing and chasing each other. Very awesome. I think my landscaping project paid off:)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Congrats! LOL> Rubypalooza!

Summertown, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL, love all the hummer pics - keep 'em coming!

Marlton, NJ

That is great Missy!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Nice shots Mrs. Ed...I need a longer lens too just can't figure out which tree to pick the $ from!!

Congrats Missy...hope they stay awhile for you.

We still have some here but not a mad house anymore...a lot quieter for sure!!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

My first wife thought I had a money tree on the back 40. The second did not care if I had a money tree or not. She just spent everything I had and more. Did someone ask why I am not married? That is why I now enjoy the simple things in life like watching Humming birds.

Marlton, NJ

Even Hummingbirds need to rest on the hammock!

I have a lot more pics of this guy, he has some interesting features I'll talk about when I post more shots of him.

Mrs_Ed invited me there.

This is my shot at glory. Saw a couple here a year or so ago, but don't remember what month. My DS had a red covered grill and he thinks that's what got him started. (Rochester, NY).

I'll keep ya'all posted.

Brilliant I say! Hap has given me ideas!!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Nice ones Pelle and Nanny...love the hammock shot!

Welcome Happy...great idea! Next year I plan on tying a big read streamer from the chimney cap!!

This little juvie was in charge the other day and tried to keep all the Hummers off of all the feeders and plants!!

Wow, those tiny little tinsy birds have quite a character, don't they?!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

This guy was definitely in guard mode!! He managed to get lots of feeding time though and luckily couldn't guard the back yard where I have more feeders!

oh, Rose, like you need any more! LOL.

Hey, how far are you from those guys?

I spent some time trying to stalk a visitor on Saturday. I realized that if I put the settings on Automatic, they were really blown out. So I switched to manual. I'd have to drop the exposure compensation by 2 points at least to use automatic otherwise.

I was a little concerned about the white on the top of the beak of this one. Don't know if it's a fungus or just some spider webs or something.

but has a cute little backside anyway

If anyone comes here, Dave's will probably crash with all my mail. The feeder is straight in front me when I am on the PC. There's a lot of hummer watching.

Beautiful shots Marna...I really love that second one! I see a lot of Hummers with that white on the top of the beak and thought it was the start of new feathers but I don't really know for sure.

I have been shooting them from the front porch and am about 8-10 feet away. This morning there is no sun so had to up the ISO to 640...always a lot of noise if I go over 400.

We had a changing of the guards and this is the new guy!

Pretty shots of your pretty boy Marna...gotta love the Hummers on the flowers!

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Yes second that, lovely Marna.
Rose the expression on the last one looks so mean. Looks like he means business.
One is still sticking around.

Haven't seen any hummers for two days. Here's one from earlier. Just found it on a camera card I am finally looking at.

Hummer's gone from here, been almost a week no sightings.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Does that mean they're coming here?

Hap

Marlton, NJ

You should have more stragglers coming through Burd.

Another hummingbird with a badly injured beak. Looks like the tongue is exposed in the middle where the beak should be and part of the beak is broken off at the front. He is doing great though, he is a tough young guy guarding any yard plants from other hummers. :-) He does not use feeders.

He is not afraid of me at all so I've enjoyed taking pictures of him still without getting too close.

I LOVE that phrase Mrs. Ed!! LOL

I didn't see any yesterday at the feeders, but I was busy so may just have missed them. Mkaing a fresh batch of nectar today.
