Hi Everyone, Time to start a new hummingbird thread. We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1030946/
Lots of great pics on that one. Hope we can keep it going as they begin (or continue) their journey south.
This first one is from this morning on the million bells hanging basket.
2009 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds Vol. 8
I just can't resist! That is one character of a bird!!! LOL
Wonderful shots Dave! Thanks for starting the new thread! I love the one with the wishbone flowers!
Dave thanks for the new thread and for the awesome shots of the beautiful Hummers. All the shots are just gorgeous and sure would have a hard time trying to pick a favorite!
Today has been dark and rainy so once again I hope the quantity makes up for the lack of quality!! We had lots of Hummers this morning but it seems that they are just filling up and leaving as the feeders are not emptying out as fast.
Great shots Rose! They look so funny sopping wet!
Dave, love your photos!!
Rose, love yours too. They sure are cute when they're wet.
...and they sure are cute when they looking mad as well. lol
That is so cute burn! Notice how short the wings look; it's just the flash making the top part looking transparent I guess. Neat!
I did love, the mad expression too, on the last thread. Showed personality.
In this pic, I had move the feeder, and he had a hard time to find it. So he stuck his head in this flower instead, to try to reach for the food. They are not usually attracted to this flower, because, they have to reach to far in, to get the nectar. He must of been hungry enough to do it. :))
I still say you must live in THE perfect birding area, Rose!
Nice shots Burn...I have noticed that the Hummers will not eat from the Mandivilla! One of the few flowering plants that they don't care for.
GP...yes it is a great place to hang out here on the farm. Been here over 28 years and it sure has taken a long time to discover just how great it is!!
We still have several Hummers this morning but it looks like they are continuing to eat and run.
From all that I am reading they are indeed about a month early in migrating this year...I guess that is an indication of an early fall.?!
I read something interesting about oil-rig workers in the Gulf putting out feeders for the traveling Hummers. My heart swells just thinking about them finding refuge and food on the long journey across the ocean. From what I understand the workers do this during the Spring and Fall migration. Very heart warming....
It is too overcast today so I will share a comical shot from the other day.
Rose, that's one of collector's shot! I love that!
Ah...thanks Lily!
That is what is visiting my feeders this time of year. Great shot Rose!
Very nice pics beclu!!
