Your flowers are going to look absolutely gorgious! Yes, be sure to post your photos when you are done.

Wow Flower! Just checked in. I love all your beds and fountain. They're going to be so pretty for you next year when everything is planted and finished. Every time you walk out the door all you'll see is color. Very Very nice. Mekos and I will come up with an auction or something to fill you up with flowers. Whadya say Mekos? I can find something that we could auction for Flower. Tell us what you want.

Hey girl, LOL- We probably already got all she needs if we just knew what.(know what I mean ?) Look through that stash you got. I'm sure they would be there. LOL-hehehe

Seray, Together, we could plant a state.

Spooner, WI

Hey all! I just got some lupine seeds in the mail last week & really would like to plant them for next year (they are in the fridge now). My research makes me thing I should soak them at least 24-hours, then poke them into simple top-soil in dappled shade & water them in well. Any input on this? I've read that they don't like really rich soil, and that they don't like much sun & will germinate better in shade.

Also, is this too late in the season to start them here in zone 4?

I've got them too but haven't done anything with them. I'd love to see someone's photos. Here's a link that might help: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/705820/

We probably could plant the state Mekos. LOL If not then we're not doing our job right?
Flower: Once you get your color schemes for your beds let us know and we'll see what we have or have not. :)

I have to show you this flower. I've waited all summer for the dang thing to bloom. It's a Tibouchina grandiflora. Big fuzzy leaves!

Talk about planting seeds now for the spring. I am in 5b and can I plant perrenial seeds now?

I think it would depend on the seed.

Spooner, WI

Venice, I think it depends on the seed. Some need more time to establish their roots before the winter. That's kinda what I'm working on finding out. I'm so grateful for DG people who have the information on things like this!

Seray, that is heavenly. How big are the blooms? Is it like hibiscus?
What is the hardy zone?

This message was edited Aug 30, 2009 10:23 PM

The blooms aren't as big as hibiscus. They are in clusters and are about the size of small petunias. The clusters come off the top of the plant. The real show is the leaf. It's the size of a dinner plate and very soft and velvety. I'll try to take some cuttings and send ya one. It may take awhile not good at cuttings yet. LOL

That is ok, it probably wouldn't live here. I just was curious as to how big the blooms were. That looks like they would be big. Thanks though, you are so sweet to offer. I'm only in zone 7 and it would be too big for me to take in and out of greenhouse. BUT it sure is pretty. I love that color.

It does get big. I think it will overwinter here so I'm taking cuttings just in case. It dies back and returns (fingers crossed) in 9a. LOL

So, it says something in that thread that Seray left the link for, that someone tried a 50/50 soak of water & peroxide for starting seeds. Can you do this with all seeds? Do all seeds benefit from a pre-soak before planting?

Please excuse my ignorance!

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

ptilda, on the lupines if you just sow them in the place your planting them about the middle of next month you don't have to do anything to them. They need the cold stratification to germinate. even with soaking them they have to be cold stratified.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Would it be ok to plant Rudbeckia triloba seeds now?

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

I wouldn't plant those yet. I would start those inside about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost come spring. The only things that you could put out now is the things that need the cold stratifying but really they need to wait until late Sept or Oct b4 doing those even.

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

cue, why are not surprised that you would just have to have those! LOL! Can't wait to see pictures of those in your beds, you 2. I may even have to check on those! They look so pretty! Would be perfect with 'orange harvest" in the garden, just what we need for Halloween! ;-)

Good evening to all. Congrats CUE, know you will love those. That should make the goth garden show off.
I's rainy here and just in the 70's this week. LOVING IT!!!! 60's at night.
My tropical water lily is doing it's Vivaporous thingy so babies will be here soon. It's a tropical Tina and so fragrant! Purple with yellow center.
The rain sprinkles are so nice and gently soaking in so it is really helping the plants, however the cool and moisture is not so good for the old arthritis. Only here for a few minutes and try again tomorrow.( the rain knocks my internet out, also).
Arejay did you get the new bag of seeds yet? I thought they might come today, I have another bag started for you also.
I guess the weather was just right for my moon bush because this morning I had the biggest, brightest bloom yet. It was huge, like a dinner plate. Really beautiful.
Where is Mindy hiding? Haven't seen her in a while. Mindy , you put that needle work down for a while and come sit a spell. We miss you.
Thought I'd let you know that I was going through one of my bags of seeds and found some I didn't know what was so I googled them to see and found a package of RED -CRAPE MYRTLE seeds. Alstromeria Indica- (Red crape myrtle.) Only have a few but these are the NEW red one that came out a couple years ago if anyone is interested. Flower, AL or anyone??? We'll just have to see, I guess.
Well, I'm out for a while. Later peeps.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)
