ok looking to upgrade my camera as it is in the shop agian. i have an olympus but everyone says they are a bad brand.
was thinking on a nikkon or canon. know canon is almost the best but what do u use.
cameras what does everyone have
I use Nikkon but it does not matter what camera you use, with photo shop you can touch up your photos, change things around, add extra blooms even change the colour and hue and sharpen them.
There are a few members here who are really good with photoshop they might give you a tutorial if you ask.
Canon! We currently have two of them - I have a Canon EOS Elan (digital SLR) and my husband has a Canon Power Shot (pocket size digital). I have been a hobby photographer for over 40 years and Canon is still my favorite. I've also had a good experience with a Pentax, but that was many years ago.
Oh, yes - Photoshop by all means - expensive unless you are going to use it a great deal. I have my own website and do a lot of DVD's for family history purposes and class reunions, etc. I use Photoshop a great deal, but mostly for older photos. It is good for enhancing color, etc., but unless someone is going to use it at least once a week, it would be difficult to justify the expense. (My opinion only).
Hi Marie, I have a Canon Rebel Xt (SLR) I love it but do want to upgrade next year. I will get another Canon...I use a macro lens for some of the close-ups.
I have Photoshop and was lucky enough to get mine from my son so it didn't cost me anything. I am still learning it but love what you can do. There are a lot of free programs on the web but once you get PS there is no going back! LOL
I have had great fun using a Sony product, the Cybershot DSC-H5 digital camera. About 2 months after I bought it, Sony stopped its production and introduced another model into the market and has made several introductions since then. You may be able to get a DSC-H5 on eBay or even amazon.com in new condition, maybe for less than I paid for it in several years ago (was about $400 then). You can get nice macro images with it, which is what motivated me to make the purchase after seeing the magic that X did with her camera (same model).
I do not play with the pictures except to gently lighten up or provide a little contrast, using Microsoft Picture Manager. I also crop the picture to correct the layout of the image. Since I made the big step of keeping myself in manual mode, I have figured out how to get an image that requires little adjustment. This is difficult to do, however, in lowlight situations as we MG fanatics work in with our flower subjects.
I will try to pick up a Nikon camera body (D80 if possible) to use with a nice Nikkor macro lens I still have from film camera days. Maybe some day the price will come down. hahahahaha dream on.
Joseph - this one - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6994351 - is heartbreakingly beautiful - those old Edo woodcuts often caught the essence of rain on a garden or landscape so well. Do you know the name of the temple? In romaji? I wonder if I might have downloaded a woodcut of the same...?
Karen
Karen, thank you for your kind comments! The temple is Eiheiji Temple, which I visited when I was staying in the Fukui-City area. The temple from what I learned has significance in Zen Buddhism. Here is the link to my photo set on flickr.com:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gerris2/sets/72157621555377685/
I chose not to watermark any of my photos in this set or any of my images. They ruin the photograph, pure and simple.
Joseph, I totally agree with you about not watermarking my photos, too. I have buds forming, so it might be a little while before I share pics, but if they're any good, they'll be meant for folks to enjoy without the graffiti. (My late-planted mgs are residing in tiny pots, ready to come in behind cat barricades in our tiny house come frost...I think of you as I perpetually untangle them...maybe Zen originated in someone's mind while they were untangling mgs??? lol)
I don't think I've got a woodcut for Eiheiji Temple - might be disguised under some abbreviation I might have used in the label. Thank you for your flicker link - I look forward to many visits.
Back to untangling - tentworms are showering down now - as many on me as the vines.

Nikon D40x here, Just need some MGs to shoot!
I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT and the 18-55mm lens that came with it- not an expensive setup. Shown is a recent MG picture I took with it. I also use Paint Shop Pro 8 to prepare images for presentation, like the one attached. PSP is much more affordable than Photoshop.
I would like to improve my macro capability. Can anyone suggest a lens that will work well with this camera?
I have heard wonderful things about the Canon Rebel XT. And the photos look very sharp and clear and appear to show the colors true.
I have a cheap Kodak Z712. It does the job, but I have some serious issues with true colors especially deep purple. Sometimes I get more of a blue color instead of dark purple.
still deciding on what to get. want a true color though. want colors to be what i am looking at. i do take a lot of flower pics
A lot of people like Canons' but I have several Olympus cameras, and I stand by them.
Marie there is a good comparison for you. Gardenpom's pictures are spectacular!
Thank you Ronnie. If money was no object I would branch out and get one of those super cameras out there....but for the price, Olympus does what I need it to do. I'm sure no camera is perfect.
Me too GP, one I want is in the market of about 1500... a bit much right now!!
