The bulbs start rolling in!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, me too on the PNWLS bulbs. But I believe I heard that they were packing tomorrow and would be shipping shortly there after, so... :)

Sunday, a bunch of us are going over to Wandasflowers and helping her pack up the bulbs for the Iowa Regional Lily Society. That is usually a pretty fun time. :)

Oh, thanks Diann! I knew there wasn't a problem but it's nie to be reassured.

if I use the lettuce bag from the grocery store to store bulbs in the fridge. . would that work better than a reg. ziploc bag? what's ya'll take on that?

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Love the ya'll!

I send bulbs to other people in zip lock bags with peat moss, but I am actually thinking of refrigerating some bulbs over the entire winter (I have a dedicated minifridge for seeds and bulbs). I'd be grateful for guidance too.

I can confirm that PNWLS will be packing bulbs tomorrow. :) I've got all the BC bulbs in my garage right now, and they smell so yummy! The bulbs are typical Buggy quality, as well. Clean, fresh, nicely packed, good sized (course, the species ones are smaller).

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Gotta love ya susybell. Thanks for making the exchange w/ pard! The Buggy Express (that's what I call it anyway ^_^)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

We call it the Great Buggy Bulb Relay! And the rendezvous at Al's Garden Center was smashing; we both left a few bucks lighter.

Sue, make sure you keep that garage locked!!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Lol, pard, will do! I think I'd be a little more worried if I lived closer to some of you, though. ;)

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

PNWLS bulbs just arrived. Mine are from Buggy Crazy, The Lily Garden and Faraway Flowers. They are all great, but Buggy's are huge! I've heard that comment from several of my more experienced lily friends, and it's true.

My bulbs came today too and the Pendant Peach from buggy were huge. The others a little small, but not bad for the price. Problem is we just had two days of heavy near freezing rain. Not good conditions to plant in, but I think I may just have to dig in the mud. Doesn't sound like things will get much better.

Susan

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Susan, it will straighten out in a few days. I'm not planting anything till it dries out a bit. :)

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I am always among the last to get my bulbs :-(

But I have already received B&D and Old House Gardens, as well as peomnies from Hollingsworth, (first), Adelman (second) and Klehm (last but not least!). Buggy order should be on the way soon though IO am debating ordering more from her. Have not received Brent and Becky or John Scheepers yet either.

I noticed too that the B&D bulbs were smaller than usual but still nice. I think the PNW must have had a rough weather year for bulbs this year.

I neglected to place a PNWLS order this year (sniff)!

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Steve,

I'm sure it's not because they don't love you!

Donna

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

It's only fair Steve, you always get the first lily blooms! Besides, didn't Mother always say "save the best for last"? (well, mine did)

I haven't been able to plant mine yet ~ either freezing cold, too muddy or both. The weather this week is fairly warm and dry. Yippee!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Well Donna and Moby, due to the fact that both of you (and Mags) were so nice as to send me wonderful presents earlier, I still had some things to plant as anchors! BTW what wonderful bulbs you sent! Gave me an excuse to start my new bed!, which BTW is about 80% full - so not sure where I'll put all of the other newly-arriving stuff. Our neighbor's daughter is planting a flowerbed this year and her dad just tilled it up - and I promised all of them I would contribute heavily!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

All my bulbs are finally planted. Got the lilies from PNW and also 32 Hyacinths planted last week as well as replanting some lilies I had potted up to give to my sister. She lives in Western NE and has already been buried in snow a few times so was unable to get here for a planned visit. I dug up and divided a Leslie Woodriff and was amazed at the huge grapefruit sized bulbs that had developed since a single one was planted a few years ago. Now I will have a big clump of 5 of them, plus some smaller bulbs I found a home for. Still need to cut down some stalks.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

I am still cutting down my stalks too, Susan! Unfortunately (or fortunately), most of the OT's are still green!

I have to tell you all something.....I got my Buggy order today - and Lisa had see me here whining about not getting to buy Tropical Dream (an Asiatic lily) because of being sold out on her site - and she wrote a note on my receipt that she had seen me post and so included 3 Tropical Deams in my order. is she not the BEST?!? Who would think a vendor would go to the trouble to do that....I am more impressed each time I order from her - so I think she deserves another one ;-) I mean, I know so many wonderful people here share selflessly with others and I have been the recipient of that, but a vendor? ^_^

Lisa is one in a million. I can't say enough great things about her. So glad you got that Buggy order Steve. It won't be long for you and those OTs will be putting up new stalks, you lucky duck.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Howdy Tracey!!! :-) Yes, it is the season to get excited :-) My neighbor brought me a new load of soil today as well (3 cu. yards or so) so I am planting tomorrow! He is going to pick up more for me tomorrow as well. What great timing!!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Lisa is the best! I can't wait till I get done working on this house so I can get back to concentrating on gardening again. Then I'll get to start ordering again! Yay!!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Well howdy Diann!! Long time no see!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Hi Steve! Yeah, I don't get to come out of the paint, spackle and mud mines very often. :) LOL

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow, Steve, that was sweet of Lisa. And many of my stalks were still green, but what can you do? The bulbs in the ground were huge. My Silk Roads were so big I had trouble getting them out of the ground to share. And the clump I was trying to separate for myself - nope!

I'm planting today too. Finally sunny, dry and about 60! Now to get the rest of the lilies in!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I've been rehabbing several areas of the garden ~ spreading things out that are too cramped. This Ortega (OT) impressed me so, I had to wash it and take at pic.

Mar, it looks like it could jump out and bite you!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

That is impressive!

Donna, did you get your planting done? I got all my Buggycrazy bulbs planted yesterday, and most of my John Scheepers except for those I am saving for my neighbor. Then my two large Brent and Becky crates came today - BTW I love the way they pack their bulbs in those handy plastic crates. And with all of the sales I want to order more....!

It's been fed well, and is not in the mood for another meal.

Especially after midnight.

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I've been digging stuff up to make room for all my new lilies. I've finally got enough space in the beds and now the rain's set in, yuck! Although it hardly seems like fall if I'm not planting bulbs in the rain...

Moby, that Ortega is amazing! Just that one scale in the front alone is half the size of your palm-more like a Dorito than a lily scale-wow! How long had you had it in the ground?

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

And I was going to say it looked tasty, but someone beat me to it!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Now there's a new adjective for scales: 'Dorito size' lol
Had to check my journal ~ it was planted 4 years ago.

Elgin, IL(Zone 5a)

Stevie,

YES! Everything is in. I dug up three different lily beds to rearrange my stuff. I dug up my White Henryi, Ariadne, Rosepoint Lace, The Vamp bed to incorporate more Ariadne, Hiawatha and Red Alert to liven up the bed, for example. My issue is that ornamental grasses and lilies both expand over time and get too close together. I put in Champagne, more Sorbonne, Halifax and Acapulco. Burma Ruby has made me really appreciate RED.

I also got bulbs from B&B, McClure and Zimmerman (good selection of species tulips) and received a BUNCH of gernaiums in a trade. I have placed them around my roses. I didn't get my B&B's in crates, but I'n not as good a customer as you are!

Funny - I had NO IDEA how I was going to incorporate everything, but I have it now. Remove more grass!

Next year will be unbelievable!

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

;) crunch!

Four years in the ground!....Mine have been planted for two. Hmm, maybe I should move mine this year if the weather cooperates.

Donna, your new bed sounds really nice!
