Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh my penny candy. If you are too young to remember it boy oh boy you sure did miss the good ol' days. You could get a whole bag full of different stuff for a nickel. Anyone remember DOTS on the paper rolls? Fireballs?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My dad's grandparents had a candy store. No wonder he has such a sweet tooth!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

charleston chews cold were good - has someone mentioned them

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

That's the ones Allison, or close to them. I remember the frozen Charleston Chews, you had to smack 'em, crack 'em and eat 'em. I have not had any of this stuff except maybe a snickers bar here and there and a Hershey's chocolate with almonds(the only way to fly imho) in a long, long time. Wax lips and mustache anyone?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

we had wax lips ... can't imagine why we liked them though

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Loved the chocolate Necco wafers and what they only put about 2 in every pack. NOw you can buy a whole chocolate roll, took them about 30 years to come out with that.

Mary Janes were my mom's fav.

We always sneak candy into the movies...we went once with a few friends and I had on a jacket that had a hood and they all put their candy in there. When we got inside they are all reaching in my hood to get their stuff out, people around us were cracking up.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Those wax lips were nasty.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I agree, somehow kids liked them.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

I used to love those candy necklaces.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Remember the wax fingernails? The wax harmonica thing (it had liquid in it ) I imagine you could have put a wick in us & used us as candles with all that wax

Yes, cow tales! Thanks Leighton!

Have we mentioned Juicy fruit, Black Crows, Ju Ju Bees Eating these always left me with my finger in my mouth, trying to pry them off my teeth.

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

Juicy Fruit tasted so good but the flavor lasted all of a minute! lol.... I remember Red Hot Dollars or just Red dollars... some kind of gummy..... at the drive in!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh ya juju-bees. Things were like cement on the old molars. How about the little wax soda bottles with some really icky sweet juice or facsimile there of in them, ewww just the thought of it, so gross now, but was a real neat thing back in the good ol' days. LOL
One good thing I can remember and really miss is fresh made donuts cooked to order, probably in lard and not at all dietetic but yum. Warm and dipped in frosting and chocolate jimmies. mmmmmm

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Just found Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mary Janes and Skybars in quantity at Reny's in Wells Maine. Necco makes the Mary Janes and Squirrel....
:)

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

Hmm.... I didn't know there was a Reny's in Wells.....I love Necco wafers... Remember Now and Later's?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Funny - I don't remember them.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I remember Now and Laters!! Chocolate was my favorite! How about Goobers? Mallow cups, couldn't bite one without the marshmallow dripping on your chin!!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I like Raisinettes.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my mom loved raisinettes!!.. that was the movie snack choice

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Goobers.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Speaking of which, anyone remember the old drive-in movie animated commercial for the snack bar items?

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

I do! Too Funny... lol! After those commercials, people would head to the snack bar in droves.. lol

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

There was one in Maine when we were kids that advertised "Round Dogs" - hotdogs on hamburger buns....

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

Where in Maine did you go to the Drive In? There are still a few left in these parts.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

You have brought back some memories!

Victor, David took me to that pastry shop in Astoria, it was very good!

At work today, we've been a little stressed (not me, I was just on vacation) and during a meeting one of the nurses came in, and while 2 of us had our heads together deep in conversation, she sits at the table with a wax mustache, quietly, until we looked up and cracked up. She brought us wax lips too, so we all put them on, and it was funny. But just that little taste of holding them in for a minute was yuck!

Thomaston, CT

I'm glad someone else loved JuJu-bees---they were my fav movie treat. Also loved vanilla sodas---New Yorkers call them egg creams---that we could get at the soda fountains, And Good Humor used to sell twin ice pops---lemon on one side & raspberry on the other---Lord, haven't thought about those in years!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Glad you liked it, Deb. Way more $$ these days. Pastries used to be 50 cents!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I read that pastries as pasties....lol ugh, I'm getting sleepy.

How about those little ice cream cups vanilla with chocolate or strawberry.
and how about those good humor ice cream bars with the jokes on the sticks.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - a quarter on each? Kind of small.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Better than a dime!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee. I like silver dollars!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Wow! Kids are still free and you still get a double feature?

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

There are a couple down this way (Drive Ins).... one about 10 minutes from my house... I haven't been to one in years though..... fun to walk down memory lane!

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)
