Here are the beds in front of the Conservatory in Golden Gate Park, last week>
What's happening in your late summer garden?
Beautiful colors, Dale! Love the heathers & heath. Hope you had a good trip.
Trimmed Hedgezilla today. Whew! What a job.
Dale, thank you for refreshing my appreciation of the beauty in my own regional back yard....lovely composition....we tend to take for granted the natural beauty surrounding us every day and wistfully wish for what others are taking for granted....thanks again for the refresher course in Bay Area and north

Well said, corgi!
Dale, great photos!
Fantastic photos, Dale! Are the redwoods in Muir Woods? Glad you got over the bridge before they found the crack!
They found a significant crack in the bridge. It's been closed for several days while they fix it. Apparently, they were replacing a span and took the opportunity to do a thorough inspection, when they found the crack. Would you believe, they had to wait for a part to fix it? Just checked and they were able to get it done for morning rush. Bet a lot of people appreciated that!
Is anybody else starting to harvest their fall seeds? Been cutting down swiss chard, beets, broccoli, and celery. Putting aside a few squash. Gathering dried seed heads from the leeks, onions, and parsnips. And getting the empty veggie areas ready for fall/winter crops. I might even try and squeeze in one more row of snow peas. I think they'll have just enough time to produce before it gets too cold.
Last year, I let my violas go to seed and they came up everywhere in the backyard, it was wonderful. This January, I planted six varieties in the front yard which have since gone to seed and new little crosses are coming up everywhere. Looks like pollen from the backyard made it into the front yard. It's going to be interesting.
PC, I am also harvesting last spring's lettuce seeds, as well as my Swiss chard. Just collected seeds from some of my perennial geraniums, too. Hoping they'll sprout for me.
Sadly, it's too hot here in the summer for peas (DH's favorite). I tried planting them last winter, and I had about 2 weeks' worth of harvest before it got hot in the spring....sigh. Too much work and space for too little result!
Gorgeous photos Dale. The crack is in the Bay Bridge, not the Golden Gate - just to clarify.
I love how violas naturalize.
Yes Doss, me too! It was also a bit sad though, because I hated having to walk on them where they came up in every little crack in the walkways. And having to pull them up so I could plant other things ;-) I potted up as many as I could and gave them away. I was actually surprised at their ability to even populate the dry gravel hillside. I think I am going to have to encourage this!
Yes, snow peas don't produce for long. So I always let a bit go to seed and I keep planting them about every three to four weeks. I haven't had to buy seed in over 10 years. They are my snack food while I wander around looking things over and deciding what needs to be done first. They very rarely make it into the house to be cooked. And I cannot bring myself to pay grocery store prices for them, nor eat the ones they sell, raw!!
Loved all the photos from your trip Dale. So beautiful!
Before I forget thanks for the doodlebug site. It was fun, DP!
Have photos to post, but kids gave me a cold, and it's not pretty. Going to rest for now.
