The young males seem to have claimed the perches close to the feeders.

Nice frank!

i have a report to make (LOL). Hummingbird at 5pm! Yay! It considered a feeder, but then flew off towards the trumpet vine never to be seen again. Boo.

Marlton, NJ

Oh I'm sure he'll be back.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

i dunno. you know they hate me! haha.

The dragonflies were teasing too, making me think that was an HB from far away!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very nice shots Frank

Delighted to share this with you all! It's a BOY! Looks like maybe some molting? I see some white speckles. The pix is terrible for detail though.

I've had 3 hummers around lately. There was a baby one hovering outside my window, staring in at
my kitten, Nell. Looked like it was either trying to figure out what she was, or saying, "Nah, nah -
can't get me." Nell's eyes were popped, like one of those funny cat pictures on a greeting card! Oh,
if I only had a decent camera (that I remembered to keep with me AND knew how to operate).

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

YAY Mrs. Ed!!! Our adult males seem to be leaving already. I only saw one early in the morning yesterday. The rest of the day itwas females & juvies.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Like your description of your kitten eying the hummer Carol. Too funny, I can just imagine, what it was thinking.;))
It's getting colder here too Huggergirl, Those poor hummers are just about ready, to leave us.
A long awaited reward, after a longgg wait. Yay, Mrs-Ed here's wishing, that he stays, and visit with you, for a while. Want to see more pictures of your sweety.
Very nice Frank!
Onewish. lovely shots.
Burt, I have a lot of those profile shots. Sometimes I like the effect of it.

We still have a couple of the adult males coming around but mostly it's these young ones.
This was shot this afternoon at very close range (6 feet) with the 500mm, with 36mm and 20mm extension rings attached, which allowed me to autofocus that close.

Thanks all.
I had another today. It was not an adult male and it only cruised around the feeder, did not stop. It's a strange first two days of the season. Usually they stay and feed for a couple of hours, but these days just a few sips and gone!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice Hugger!!!... thanks Burn.. pretty shot with the flower.... wow Dave that is a nice close up... they haven't let me get that close this year... very shy

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Beautiful shots everyone and Mrs. Ed a big congrats to you!!

We had out of state company last week and when DH told me they were coming the only thing I could think of was "but the Hummers are migrating"!! LOL!! I tried to be a good hostess but I had one eye glued to the feeders the whole time they were here.

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

real nice Dave,i want your camera !!! and experience =)

Sandusky, OH

Temp's at night here have been in upper 40's with light NNE winds. Wondering what kind of tolerance they have? I did have 2 playing tag or something within some branches a couple of feet above my head today. Its not supposed to warmer at night until early next week, my Hummer days are getting numbered.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are not alone Burd... I think ours are as well

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Well it seems we do still have one adult male still around...

Nice ones nanny!!

I couldn't get a good shot of my mature male yesterday with the fading light. He is very protective of "his" feeders and plants.

the down shot of the female is neat Nanny... nice shot Pelle!

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

i think my males have also left, all I see are the females

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Had one yesterday morning that I saw on the Tithonia, but never say any the rest of the day, even when I was on feeder watch at 7pm.

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

I wish I had more time to sit and watch and take pix .I know , we are going to the beach,Iam going to be sitting and I will take pix of seagulls !!! lol

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

If I had my druthers I would rather be sitting on the beach and taking pics of seagulls! Today is very cold and dark but the Hummers are in manic mode and are all over the feeders and flowers. I sat in the front yard earlier this morning and there were just tons of them...at least 50 that I could quickly count. Hard to believe that the Hummer season is almost over.

We have had a few mature males and here is one from the other day.

I didn't realize what was going on here until I saw this shot on the computer... I quickly moved the Praying Mantis from the area!
