DAILY PICS VOL. 239

Marlton, NJ

Here is the new thread. Great job on the last one everyone! We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1027738/

This pic of the seagull is during sunset at the point in Stone Harbor last Monday night. It was a beautiful time.

Sanderling's at the point . When I was there the first week in July they hadn't arrived yet. Very sweet little birds and fun to watch.

I was just out watering the tomato plants when a pair of Calif. Quail came out from under them, leading two very young chicks ( porbably one day old ). Kind of late to be hatching isn't? Of course I didn't have my camera with me.

Melbourne, FL

I love your Sanderling photo, Pelle. The Red-Shouldered Hawk was around most of the day.

Great start Pelle,

I was about 2 feet away from this little guy. It doesn't mind me being so close. Hopefully he'll let me, get close enough to pet him.

I was finally able to get a bit blurry picture of the Northern Flicker. I've seen 2 together last year, but only once.

Gardenpom, great picture! I love it. Great capture. I am still workig on getting a good picture of ours, I took about 125 of him today and this is the best that I got! It's very hard to get a good picture, wish that mine would come out looking like yours!

I like the sunset picture pelle. Nice rich colors.

PERTH, Australia

That is a beautiful opening photo for the new thread, Pelle. The shot of the Sanderlings is really special. What lovely lighting.

Gorgeous Flicker and Woodpecker, Burn.

Good hawk shot, GP.

I posted this on the birdfiles. It's a Black-faced Cuckoo Shrike which was at the Osprey site yesterday.

This Willie Wagtail was running around at my feet, perched on the table next to me or sitting just above my shoulder, chattering away the whole time. ?he was so close I couldn't get all of him in the frame.

Margaret, Lovely shots! Of course I have a soft spot for the Willie Wagtail but the Shrike is so handsome!

Melbourne, FL

Thanks for the compliment, Teresa (by the way, I'm a Teresa also)...and Margaret, love those birds you get down there, that Shrike is wonderful. Love the Yellow Warbler, burn!

Marlton, NJ

Beautiful Red-shouldered Hawk GP!

Teresa, I think you did very well with that shot!

Burn, Love your Yellow Warbler and your nice assortment of Woodpeckers!

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

Great pictures everyone. Margret you do get some really cool birds we never see on the gulf coast. The little willy wagtail is too cute and I think the shrike is very sleek.

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Nice sunset shot with bird Pelletory...from Cape May I presume
Margaret nice closeup. You got good exposure for a bird with both black and white colors. Same for the Cuckoo
GP nice Hawk in flight. I have yet to get Hawks in flight shots

Here's my resident Red-bellied WP

Thanks folks. Al, that shot is incredibly sharp. Love that tongue.

We went out to a large lake a few days ago. I had plans to take lots of photos of some fabulous birds. It was such a gloomy, dull and miserable day, I only managed a few shots, including this Little Corella staking claim to a nest hollow in anticipation of Spring, which is almost here.

My goodness, Margaret! I love that natural setting of the Parrot! So lovely!

Al, we've a little 'cool front' for the weekend. I'm so tempted to set out my suet feeder to lure my Redbellied WP back, I haven't seen them at all this year.

Beautiful pix everyone.

PERTH, Australia

I really wanted to get some good pix of the Musk Ducks, but I wasn't able to so these will have to suffice for the time being. The male puts on the most flamboyant mating display. He has this big fleshy lobe under his bill, which becomes very prominent during mating. The males also lift themselves out of the water with their tiny wings outstretched and their butts in the air with their little tail feathers splayed outwards and throw themselves back onto the lake surface with an exaggerated splash, all the time making this indescribable, bell-like pinging sound. All very appealing to the females.

The sound the male makes travels such a long distance and is utterly unique. It's often the sound even more so than the display that first draws your attention to them

Here he's splashing down to the delight of his two female companions

Rear view. These strange ducks really look like a cross between a platypus and a penguin. They are equally as fascinating when seen on dry land.

Margaret, now that is an amazing duck!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

They sure are amazing!! Are they polygomous? LOL

PERTH, Australia

They really are fascinating, Little_things. I haven't seen any of your amazing birds recently. Have you been out and about recently? If you have, we'd all love to see what you've been seeing.

Sorry, Lily, cross posted. There were two females in these shots, but at one stage there were three. Resin would probably be the one to provide an answer.

Thanks Margaret for your response. Hope Resin will offer some insight pertaining to the subject.

Al the doves shots are so clear and crisp! Beautiful!

Wow Meth, those pictures look like they came out of a magazine! The pictures of the Dove on the tree Stump. Margaret I like the pictures of the Cuckoo and Wagtail, very unique looking birds. Love everyones pictures. I got to see a Yellow-Billed Cuckoo for the first time yesterday in my yard.

I got to see a Woodpecker also, guess he was cleaning the bugs off the side of the house!
