So. Calif. Fall RU 2009 - PLANT THREAD

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

If you have plants, seeds, cuttings, bulbs, whatever, to trade or give away at the RU, list them here.

I suggest everyone have one message and make changes to it as needed, as it's easier to keep track of that way.

Don't be shy about asking for something if you have nothing to share - we've all been there. The more you grow, the more you will have for the next RU!

It's nice to label everything - including your name - so folks can remember who gave them that wonderful plant and what it is. Any old label will do - even a piece of tape on the pot.

OK, let the trading begin!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

SEEDS;
Columbine 'Origami Yellow' Aquilegia x caerulea.
Columbine Denver Gold.
(KaperC)

PLANTS:
Agapanthus Africanus.
I can bring as many as I get requests for. I have full sized and the "Peter Pan" (minis). I have a few white and lots of blue.

Canna in four different colors.
(KaperC)-Cleopatra

Yellow Kangaroo Paw.

If you want some of the Agapanthus, please dmail me. I could bring a truck load of them, but I don't want to bring more than I can find homes for.

WANTED:
Anyone who has Daylilies, (other than Stellas, I have lots of them) I'd love to get a variety started.

Randy, I would love a few of the Columbine seeds (both if you have enough).
I have seeds for Aquilegia formosa, the California native.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I'll add to this list later if I can.

Seeds

Tipuana tipu tree - some call this a yellow Jacaranda - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/67862/

Parkinsonia microphylla - Foothill Palo Verde tree - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/76909/

Caesalpinia gilliesii - Desert Bird of Paradise - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2120/
(weegy12)

Epidendrum - Reed Stem Orchids - seed pods for red and yellow (I've never had seed pods before, so don't know anything about germinating them - might be fun to try)

Plants

Epidendrum - Reed stem orchids - keikis (rooted sprouts from the plant) I just learned these can be mounted on cork as well as potted or planted in the ground. Here's some growing info on them. http://members.optusnet.com.au/bdobson/Epidendrums.html

Rosemary - I'll finally be cutting down my large rosemary bush. It is an excellent cooking rosemary, so if anyone wants a supply to dry or cuttings to grow, let me know.

Parsley - I have a bumper crop of Italian parsley, if anyone dries it.
(weegy12)
(marieortiz)

Chamomile - Some buds still on, and I can probably split the plant and pot some up.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I'm looking for rain lilies...if anyone can spare a few of these, I'd be very appreciative.
I know I will have lots and lots of naked ladies, I also have cannas (orange) and I will share irises with whoever wants them.

By the way Kathleen, I have lots of Louisiana irises that you might like for your pond, let me know and I'll dig them for you the day before the RU. We really need to thin them here. Water hyacinth are in abundance too!

Great, Louise! Thanks a bunch. We had a few iris blooms this year, but not much - I think we have to find another way to plant them. I'll talk to you about that. Water hyacinths are always welcome.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Louise: I'll take some Louisiana Iris if you've got a few extra.

I've also got a load of Crocosmia and Watsonia bulbs I'll bring for anyone who wants them.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

They're yours Mike. I have more than a few extra.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Gracias !

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

You're welcome!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Louise , I will try to bring some rainlilies for you and I hope some extras for the swap.
I have lots of oxalis and since they are small they are easy to place in the suitcase.
Mike, I will love some Crocosmias and Watsonias . Thanks.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Yea, thanks Rodica!
Kathleen, I saw that I didn't reply to your post above, I will set aside Louisiana's for you. They can survive in water and I thought of you since we'll be thinning the ones here. The ones in Chino aren't doing very well, I cannot get there enough to water them sufficiently so between the lack of water and gophers, they are slowly disappearing.
Are you irises getting enough sun and not too much water?

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

They're planted in the boggy part of the pond - I thought LAs liked the water! They get full sun after early morning.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I thought you were talking about tall beardeds. I didn't realize you had Louisiana's already.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Kathleen;
Those Cleopatra Cannas do VERY well in the boggy area around the pond or even IN the pond.

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

OOOOH! Goody. We have a red one blooming now and the Cleopatra would look stunning next to it. Thanks, Randy!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Does anybody know where I can find an Ichroma ? Do they sell in any nursery ?

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Rodica,
They are hard to find out here and most of them come in a large container. I have a purple one that I can take cutting of for you if you want.

I have several plants to share and will post within the next few days. I also have some seeds.

Donna

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Donna, I would love some cuttings of your Ichroma. I hope they root as easily as the ones from brugmansias.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I'll see if I can get a few started tomorrow, ok?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I'm potting up 4 epi's for anyone who wants one...I believe they are the smelly good night bloomers.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Thanks Donna .

I would love one of those geums Donna, but I know it would not survive the summer in Phoenix. :O(

Zebrina Malva - hardy geranium

Thumbnail by TwinLakesChef
Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Arelen, I'm sorry to say that the second picture above is not a hardy geranium, it is a Malva. Completely different plant. lol

My geranium looks like 'Rozanne', but it's not.

Donna

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

You are right, Donna,
I used to have a hardy geranium but that's not it. That malva sylvestris is also called a French Hollyhock. My boo boo.

And the geum is Mrs. Bradshaw if it is more a brickred, as I remember. I had both the red one and a yellow one at one time.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Does anbody have any Cardwell lily bulbs? I looked all over the Internet for them and I found only two that have them. One is out and the other will not ship them to AZ or CA.
Maybe you saw them in your nurseries where I can buy some. I would appreciate any information you can give me.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Ok I have to read over this thread again but I have rain lily bulbs so I will bring some of those pink and white ones. They can be put into my suit case easily.

MIke I would love some crocosmia and watsonia please.

Donna can I please have a cleo ugandese (if it is small enough to take on a plane) and
1 rudebecka?

Buried treasures has the cardwell Lily bulbs I think Rhodi. I wills earcha nd see if I can find any too.

If anyone know where I can obtains some homeria (Sp) near Louise please let us know.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Marie, Buried treasures is the one that is out of them. :O(

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Sorry I missed that part. They will have them again in the spring.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Marie, I was reading about Homeria and if you are referring to Cape tulip, they are considered noxious weeds and I doubt that they sell them . Maybe that is why they are hard to find.
Marie, spring is so far away. :O)

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Marie, I have you down for the Cleodendrum Ug. and a Rudbeckia. They are both in small pots, so no problem.

Rodica, I've had several cuttings of the Iochroma in a bubbler since last weekend. One of them is putting on some nice nubs so hopefully by the time of the RU they will have good roots.

Donna

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Donna , you rock ! :O)

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

I'm too far north to make it to the RU, but I will have cannas to share as soon as they frost hits. I have:
Wyoming: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/3302/
Pretoria: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/3303/
Crimson Beauty: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/37266/

If anyone wants some, shoot me a dMail.

Orange, CA(Zone 10b)

I don't have much to share but do have some short Aloe Vera babies already potted up. I also have a couple of rooted "Big Red" Geranium...(Pelargonium hortatum 'Calliope Dark Red' PPAF) that I can bring. As far as seeds, I have lots of veggie seeds AND a few seeds of "Winged Beauty" Dalechampia discoraefolia. Please let me know if you're interested.

I do have a huge request. Some of you may know that I'm involved in a community garden in Santa Ana. We're trying to start an herb garden for sharing so we need an assortment of herb plants. If you have clumps of the usual kitchen herbs that you can divide and share, I would really appreciate it. It will be a lot faster to plant established plants than to grow everything from seeds.

Actually, we would love to get any kind of plant donation as long as it's in the "edible" category.

Thank you!

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Quyen..............I have lots of oregano to share. I'll put some of the rooted stuff in pots. I also have naked lady bulbs. Not sure what else at this point. We are very " young" in serious gardening.
Sylvia

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Sylvia, since you're going to be at the RU, how about I have your irises for you then???

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

weegy12....................I surely would love some of your Iris. See you there...............I'm a happy camper that we will be there and meet you all.
Sylvia
