So how's the sweet doggie doing? Shame shame on those people for abusing him. And the new appliances? Bet you needed that washer! Has the dryer learned your name? Mine knows mine ... It sits there and buzz buzz buzzes when I'm on DG. :-( Can you imagine that? LOL
Good job on all that work! Looks like we're in for more rain the next couple of days. You?
Home Sweet Georgia Home !!!
He is doing just great Susan!!...He is putting some weight on his poor bones, and his skin is looking alot better...I just got home from the grocery, and brought him a smoked leg shank from the butcher...That will help clean the ole teeth and he's got a mouth full of them...LOL
The little Min Pin is doing terrific too...She is going to be the best foot warmer in GA this winter... LOL..She sleeps on my foot under the covers, and never moves...A real loving, kissy, sweet, tiny little girl...
I got the both of them wormed, and started on heart worm meds too...
I must have got the upgrade to your washer and dryer Susan... Both of mine know my name already, and are very needy.. they are always calling me...I am constantly having to feed them...LOL..
I didn't get the walls done, as the washer showed up 2 days early, so it will be a later project...I am just grateful to have them here, and usable, so the walls can wait...
We had a couple showers yesterday, and then a torrential downpour for over 2 hours ...Sunshine so far today, but there is one on the Bama border just west of Rome, heading this way...I am just glad I got my grocery shopping done and home before we get hit again...It is suposed to do this all the way through Monday they say, but we all know how the Weather Liars are...It has sure held up progress on that last 24 inches of the porch...I have the framing up now, but still need to set the 4 front main posts that will also support the roof, put the floor boards down, and mount the new steps...I just won't use power tools on wet ground or wet wood...
I got the diseased Azaleas pruned down to a cutable stump a bit ago, and got one climbing rose (Golden Showers-yellow) that was potted, finally put in it's forever home...It was a last years bare root that I didn't care about, but it made it on the moving truck, and my good roses didn't...made me sick...Oh well... start over again I guess...Maybe I will live long enough to see something bloom here at home again....LOL
I hope you are having a good week so far....I am looking forward to the weekend, and a BBQ dinner up here with my son, and getting the porch finished, and the dog house moved from the old house to here, and the new fridge arriving...Gonna be a great time...LOL
Do you want some more Boston Fern, Dusty?
Oh Marylyn...My word girl!! Whatever are you doing over here in Georgia??? LOL
How you and the Bunnies doing?? I miss seeing you post...I'll bet those bunnies are getting really big now...
I would LOVE some more of your beautiful ferns....I have a great place to put them now too !!
This my dears is why I moved back HOME !!! My darlin son came yesterday and pulled all of the old ramp posts...Typical boy...I had to feed him, and make him a bowl of salsa to take home...He brought the ingredients, and handed me the bag...I looked inside and knew immediately what was up...He said ** You didn't think I was going to work for free now did ya??*** LOL
Dusty , what a good looking son you have !!!!!
He is just like my kid , only with him , it's pecan pie . I always make two and he says " which one's mine ?" digger
ROFLLL Sally...Mine has many of my recipes on his list....He is so grateful I am home...If it doesn't come out of a can, his wife can't cook it...He does all of the cooking...Many is the time when he would call me for the ingredients or method to fix something, until he learned all of his favorites, but he never can get the salsa right for some reason...LOL
I know why, but I won't tell him....LOL Keeps him coming to me....
Thank you for the compliment.. My eldest son passed away 2 yrs ago at age 44, but both of them are 6'4", and tower over me, and look just like my Daddy did...The one on the left is the one that was here yesterday.. That is Aaron...Colin was the eldest...
We're doing fine. ^_^ The bunnies are great - getting WAY too big! I keep telling them to stop growing, but it isn't really helping. LOL I have plenty of ferns, and I'd be happy to send you some. :-) Dmail me your address when you get a chance.
LOL Marylyn....Feed 'em cigars and whiskey... maybe it will stunt their growth...Didn't work on my boys tho... LOL
Yep.... You got a hunk for a son too...Good looking...Both of them!!!
That pic look like the Gulf..Is it??
Marilyn, show us the bunnies!
Well, they are not very furry, but still very cute!!
I have a fond memory of a pink bunny cake my mother made back in oh, '62 or so for my birthday. Way back before shaped pans! It was 2 round layer cakes that you cut into shapes to make the bunny. Maybe you can find directions and make one for your little bunnies!
Those bunnies are beautiful . Sweet smiles.
Cedar , long time no see . Maybe we'll meet up at next RU again
Dusty , that is Long reef next to intercoastal just out from Rockport Tex . I'll be there in two weeks . won't be back until March or April . digger
Marylyn , I'm going to be comming through Houston in a coupla weeks . Will be stopping by Bubbas place to eat one of those world famous hamburgers . digger
I haven't been to Bubba's yet, but I've heard GREAT things about them!! Maybe we can have a DG party there while you're in town. That would be fun! ^_^
Ohhhhhhhh Marylyn....They have grown sooooo much since I last saw pics of them, and they are getting to be so beautiful now instead of just adorably cute...Give them an extra hug for me...
Sally... I'm guessing you have an extra large sack of pecans packed to take along??? LOL
If I get those Holly cuttings from Laurel, could you tell me what I need to do to get them rooted well?? Anything special?? I will have lots of pots here shortly as soon as I get my daylilies in the ground...That will hopefully take place this week...
Sally, love to see you again. I'm still not clear on your two=home=season rotation. What an adventure.
And the bunnies are really bunnies after all. So adorable.
:)
marylyn , We decided to leave a little earlier than expected . So , hope to get out in a week or so . We will contact Gymgirl to join us too . I haven't met her yet , missed her last year . Will dmail you later today , and anyone else that wants to try to join us , come on .
Gymgirl (aka Linda) is a wonderful person!! :-) I hope we can meet up with you... that would be really fun!
I'm on the countdown now , can hardly wait . D
Love it, is it a "Breckins brown beauty"? Mike
That is beautiful Sally!!! Thank you for the Eye Candy!!!
Mqiq , AllI know it's sold as a Little Gem .I have several other mags . big leaf , southern , pink stardust ,mag figo , three flowered , sweet bay . I think that's all . digger
May be the "little Gem". Mike
Wellllll... I am down to the wire....A couple of cross braces on the side porch railings, the railings for the steps, paint, lattice around the bottom, and a roof and I'm done!!! ROFL!!! I have the paint as of today...so I'm ready...I intend to install toe boards on the back of the step treads and they will have those tiny copper hooded LED lights on them to light the steps....
I have cuttings for both variegated and red Weigela shrubs, coming as a gift, and they are going to be my foundation plantings...Anything else will just be a bonus...2 of the reds will go on either side of the stairs with a variegated just behind them on the corners of the porch...I have Iris and Daylily and Canterbury bells and a bunch of other goodies that will go in the walkway bed and up by the foundation once I have it cleaned and repainted...I have been given some lovely roses as well, to replace the ones that had to be left behind...I consider myself to be extremely blessed since I made the decision to come HOME....
It seems that everything just seems to be falling into place one day at a time...
Casshigh will be coming tomorrow, and she will be the very first Georgia DG'r that I will get to share a hug with....How special is that??!!
Trying to hurry today to get the porch rails finished before the deluge of rain we are supposed to get tonight...It is almost finished...I still have the stair rails to do, and the top roof braces, and add one more step at the bottom, but that is minor...Thankfully the worst of it is over with...Paint is sitting here waiting for the weather...
I had a lovely visit from Casshigh today...She walked the yard with me, and had some wonderful suggestions for plantings...I am always grateful for another gardners opinion...Like I said before...I have a very blank canvas here with absolutely nothing but the few plants I brought with me, and a very big box full of seeds, mostly all perennials...
Hey Cass....Lookie what I got done today after you left...LOL
Dusty, you are quite amazing! I believe you can do anything you set your mind to. I am very impressed with all you have done so far. Yes, you have much to do to get your new home the way you want it, but plenty of time to do it. I will tell you what I have to constantly remind myself of: "Rome was not built in a day and this will not be either." Your blank slate will be slowly filled in, and in a few years it will be absolutely beautiful. You can sit on your porch and admire all that you have created. When you go inside, you can admire all your handiwork there. I have made a list of the flowers we talked about and will Dmail it to you to see what I left off. We do have several daylilies that will fit into your military theme bed! I enjoyed meeting you, Jim and your four-legged family. I'll be in touch.
Doris
Oh Doris!!! The only thing nearly close as good as meeting you today, will be additions to my Veterans Honor Remembrance Garden...This garden has been planned for many years...Just no place of my own to put it...Now I have it, and it will be a labor of very much love...A place to fly my flags, and honor my *Brothers* who have walked the walk before me...
Next time you come down, plan to spend more time, and I will feed you lunch...I Loved your suggestions!!! They will work in beautifully...
Thank you for the huggggs...That made my day!!!
Jim and I both enjoyed meeting you...and my Goofy new pup did too... He was determined to come say Howdy and let you know he was a real Georgia Boy !!!...LOL
I guess it is time for an update on the Homestead.....
Yesterday I removed the old cubicle shower from the Master bath since there is a shower in that big bathtub....there will eventually be a door on that back wall going out to the back deck that will be rebuilt next spring/summer......What a difference that made already!!
I finally have a vehicle of my own as of last week...after exactly 12 months of being without...It is a truck...just as I had hoped for...Old, but roadworthy and that is all that counts...
We spent today in the balmy 70* sunshine getting the truck loaded with things we have unearthed from the yard that need to go to the landfill, including the pieces we cut to get that shower out...
I have beds dug, ammended, and planted....The big maple out front that is seriously diseased will be gone in the next week or two...My Sons friend George will be here from MI on Sunday...He runs a full scale tree service business, and will take down the tree and grind the stump at no cost to me....What a blessing....
Not a single one of my plants that I brought with me has died...Nothing...
I got some Crepe Myrtle starts, and some Cleyera from my neighbor and those seem to be doing well also...
The Clematis from Casshigh are growing well on the back of the north side fence...I have Iris that were sent to me in a small bed around my tiny pink dogwood, and about 100 seeds of daylilies that were sent to me in a bed of their own...I have more beds tilled up and ammended and now covered in straw, and they will be ready to re-till in the spring and be seeded...
I have the kitchen walls painted with primer, the new fridge is installed as well as the dishwasher, and a part needed for the stove installed to get the oven working properly...
My son is moving up here closer to me, this coming weekend to a beautiful home on 2 acres, that belongs to the man I am buying this house from...Same house that the German Shepherd and Min Pin that I have came from....Another blessing...
Alot of little things that have added up to big things...It is coming along slowly but surely....
Below are some shots of the major bathroom remodel.....
Befores first....shower with the door removed...
