College Station fall round up?

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Would anyone be interested in a Fall round up in either October or early November? This spring's was so hot but fun, perhaps the weather will have cooled off by late fall.

Bryan, TX

I checked my very full calendar and it looks like I'm free for 20 minutes on the 2nd Sat in Nov.

LOL

Sounds like a good idea to me. About how many people usually attend and where is it held?

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

The spring one is usually very well attended. And where it is depends on which of the pavillions in town we can reserve.

Missouri City, TX

We would like to attend - need to pick a Saturday. The places we have held it before are great. Let us know who is collecting the deposit and $$$ will be on the way.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Yeah I'd pick a Saturday. And we'll figure out the rest when it happens. The Saturdays in October are the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st. The first Saturday in November is the 7th. I don't think I'd go much past that. We just need some more input on which of these days is convenient so that I can start calling the parks to reserve a pavillion.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

I think the 7th of Nov is a good date. The other two should be much earlier and that would give us some time to recover.

Charlene

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, that sounds good.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

the 7th Nov sounds good to us too!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok, so the 7th is looking good any more input???

Bryan, TX

7th sounds fine for my first roundup. yee-ha

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Noverber is mighty close to our first frost date to be bring home plants but I will be going for the people not the plants. I have cone to Florida, Georgia and Alabama for plant swaps and would go again if the right people were going to be there. I am hoping to make this swap just to meet new people.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

By then there should also be seeds for swap as well.

Ken, last year when I got home from the fall RU in Jacksonville, I unloaded everything out by the driveway.

I had to take my daughter to the hospital that night. There was a very early frost that night. I lost so much of what I had brought home it was very upsetting. The brugs that I brought from your house that were in pots went down like they were weeping. I cut them off and put them into the greenhouse and they returned from the dead. The cuttings that I had taken didn't make a recovery. Several things given in little two inch pots at the RU didn't recover.
The items that were dug, but not potted didn't make it. The ginger you gave me never came back to life. That was a sad loss. I was not at all prepared for a frost in October.

So, no matter what I bring home this year in October or November, I will back my truck up to the greenhouse and that is where it will get unloaded.

Now September is still too hot, so the greenhouse is not an option, so the worse thing that can happen to those things is sunburn. I think if I go to any RU's that early, I'll unload under the shade cloth.

Either way you go, there are always issues that can arise.

October is still the best option all the way around as far as the luck of plant survival goes.

Hey Ken, new friends are great!! New plants or not the friend's are the best part. I love to swap stories as well as plants. After just two years of DG RU's I have a bigger selection of plants than I ever even knew about. I have learned so much about so much more than just plants also. The friend's here are for keeps. I still have a smile on my face when I come across one of Trois's plant photos. He was a great guy to get to know. I have more friend's that I feel like I can reach out to than I have ever had before.

Dave could not have imagined what DG would do for people besides just the plant part of the site.

I lost almost all my seedlings in this heat. I was so disappointed. I lost angel trumpets in pots and in the ground. This is from the spring one. I had tiny seedlings of Castor bean and they died, My Pride of Barbados seedling did not make it. The list is shorter of what did make it.I was so excites of having so many more new things. I've ;ost angel trumpets, an azalea, and some hibiscus or 2 and they were bug. Oh and an old single confederate rose 25 ft tall died right in the middle of things that did not die.

Better luck this time I guess.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

So Sandy, does Nov. 7th sound ok to you?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Yes sounds good to me

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

K, I'd still like a little more input, otherwise I'll go ahead and see what can be reserved in the area by the end of the week.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

This RU is starting to look dead in the saddle.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Yeah I'm afraid so. Ok if anyone wants one I'll be more than happy to make the arrangements. But for now I'm guessing that the answer is no.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Ann, I wish I could be more supportive, but I have so many things going that I can't be sure whether I could make it or not.
It could be that with the terrible drought in central Texas people are discouraged, I don't know.

Come on Everybody, let Ann know what you are thinking.
Josephine.

Bump

Let's let Anne know if we will attend on Nov 7th or if we want to pass on a fall RU.

If we plan on Nov 7th, chances are that it will be cool weather instead of the heat.
We should have lots of seeds to exchange. There will be some plants that will still be great to exchange.

Everyone give a holler!!

Let us know if you want to do this or not. We had such a great spring RU, so I know that there are a lot of people near enough to the area.

If the time is the issue, then speak up and let Anne know your preference.

Anne, the 7th is great still as far as I go.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Well,.....I'll repeat what was said earlier..................Nov 7th sounds good to us!

Missouri City, TX

We're good with the 7th or the 14th. Really looking forward to seeing the group again.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok well, that's 7, 8 with me. So I'll start looking around for what would be available for that weekend.

Anne

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

I just seen this post... Ann, you know I am in....
Trishann

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Hey! I just found this too.....lol, without Trish Ann's help :)

Count me in. I'll check with Heavenscent to see if she would like to ride over.

My daughter Cheri lives in College Station. If she can take a break from her nursing studies I'm sure she'd love to attend.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Ok, great I'll start looking at locations tomorrow.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Glad to see some new interest, I was about to back out.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sorry I haven't been on here much lately...but I would definitely attend. :)

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Sounds great!

Ken, I noticed on another thread you & Maggi enjoy growing Hidden Gingers....I can bring you some over. Also have alot of Spiral Ginger if you two are interested.

Rancho Santa Rita, TX(Zone 8a)

Betcha if you posted this info on the roundup foium, more
people would see it and be
interested.

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

I agree Baja....the only reason I noticed is because I seen my sister Trish Ann's name.....lol, and being nosey wanted to see what she was up to ;)

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

cannagirl, what hidden and spiral Gingers do you have?

Bryan, TX

cannagirl, does your daughter go to A&M nursing school?

I don't have anything to trade but would love to participate.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

You know, I'm really thinking that we might could have this at the house. I have one bedroom with double bed for anyone who needs to stay the night. I think that I have plenty of space to accommodate people inside and outside the house. All we'd really need it for everyone to pitch in and and bring outside chairs I think we'll have plenty for inside. This way we can use the oven and stove and microwave, and fridge. what do y'all think? I have trees to be sat under and a wrap around porch and plenty of parking space. Let me know.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I think this is the best plan. We hosted a Ru for one of the Brug org for several years and found if it was at someones home, people stayed longer and got to know each other better.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

And two the weather won't be a concern because we can be inside cozy and comfortable no matter what the outside is like.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

BorderPatrol,
Cheri is going to Blinn for her nursing...

Anne, your place sounds good to me...

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Then that's the plan. I'll pin up the cats for the day and we'll have free run of the house. It has 2 sitting areas plus a dining area and kitchen. I have a large porch area for sitting and visiting and ample parking areas.
