Bloom.com

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Did Name Media sell the URL? I have it set as my homepage, and I love seeing the flowers and plants every day. Today, it opened to a storefront selling bouquets.

Well, this is quite a surprise. Obviously something happened during the night that I'm not aware of. The domain is still in NameMedia's ownership but it's pointing to our Afternic platform. Someone obviously made a mistake somewhere, and I'm tracking it down. Thank you for this report!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ditto. went to click on the link to see the bloom of the day....(morning ritual) and it was gone!!

It turns out that my colleagues at NameMedia have a different use of the bloom.com domain, and they took it over last night.

In the meantime, I have moved the bloom.com code over to here:

http://davesgarden.com/bloom.php

You can bookmark the above page as it will not be removed later.

Thanks, Dave. :-)

Thank you, it seems i've missed a few blooms. Love that I can go back and see what i've missed.

Is that what happened to Gardening dot com too?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I have it as a home page too! glad to know I can still access the bloom of the day!

gardening.com is a domain that we've never owned.

gardens.com is still in my control, but I have removed the link to it from DG. You can access everything that is on gardens.com at http://davesgarden.com/products/go/

Gardens dot com...that's it(not enough coffee this am)...thanks Dave!

Dave,

Could you add the " http://davesgarden.com/bloom.php " to the 'taskbar' on the main page please.

Thanks!

Marlyn

I'm not sure what the taskbar is, but I've added Today's Bloom to the homepage as a box. It should appear automatically for you on your homepage. You can also change it to move it up or down the list.

Hebron, KY

Dave,

Thank you so much! It is very appreciated!

The 'taskbar' I was referring to is:

The line of tabs that list......

Home, My Tools, Communities, Guides & Information, Products & Sources and About Us,

but where you placed it on the right is so much better!

I enjoy seeing the daily bloom feature!

Marilyn

Thanks, I enjoy it, too!

By the way, these blooms are selected entirely by the membership. The next time you're in PlantFiles and are looking at a particularly beautiful picture, click on " "Suggest this photo to be featured as a Bloom of the Day".

(Zone 1)

I would never want to be without the Bloom of the Day feature. I thoroughly enjoy seeing a new and beautiful photo each day!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Definitely must have the daily bloom of the day ^_^ DRAT! I keep forgetting to vote in PF :(

Oh boy do I love having the Bloom of the Day on my homepage! Thanks Dave!!!

I'm liking it, too! I should have added it there a long time ago; I don't know why I didn't.

I adjusted my preferences so that "Today's Bloom" is the top item on the right-hand column. :)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm enjoying having it on my home page also. I never could remember to check it out everyday before, but now it's right there to remind me.

When everyone checks the bloom of the day, don't forget to click on the link that says 'View much more information about this plant at PlantFiles' and see if the entry is missing any information you might be able to fill in. That's how PlantFiles is going to get completed...one entry at a time. :)

Dave,

How do you adjust preferences for "today's bloom" of the day, etc......?

Marilyn

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

You need to go to your member page, then preferences, then you'll see an option that says customize home page. If you want bloom of the day to show up at the top, choose column 2 position 1 for it, or choose a lower position if there are other things you'd rather have on top.

Marilyn, thanks for asking and ecrane3, thanks for explaining!!

Hebron, KY

Thanks ecrane!

You're welcome pixie!

Dave, thanks for making this change. So easy to enjoy the Bloom of the Day. I was always a fan of that feature, but this is much better.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I agree--I like being able to have it on my home page. Many times I'd be busy or forget to go look at bloom.com, but now with it at the top of my home page I can't miss it!

The more I see it on my homepage, the more I like it. If this isn't making lemonade out of lemons, I don't know what is.

Love it!
But while we're on the subject Dave :-) I do have a small gripe about Bloom.com. When someone makes a comment on the picture for that day, the photo submitter never gets any notification of it. I just happened to be scrolling thru a few past images and saw a few of mine with comments and wished I had seen them earlier.

Hmm... Perhaps a dmail sent to you to let you know that you were featured?

Also, I wonder if the thread should be auto-watched for the person whose photo is featured?

Yes and Yes!!! ^_^

That would be great, I would feel bad if I missed a ? or comment. This is a way we can share knowledge about a plant that we have actually grown.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Ditto the Yes and Yes!!! ^_^

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Well nosy me, he's been featured 22 times, and moi following close behind at 21 time but Kell has us beat at 32 times and palmbob at 33

I'll try to get the auto-watch in for tomorrow. The autowatch will serve both features since it'll pop up on your watched list immediately upon its creation at midnight UTC.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Thanks Dave, we're sure keeping you busy lately!

Yes, I've been busier than usual with these visible projects. Busy is good. ^_^

Starting now, all Bloom of the Day entries will auto-watch the thread for the person who submitted the photo that is being featured. It will show up immediately in their watched threads, alerting them to its presence.

Moreover, any replies to that thread will bump it back up into their watched list.

I am really enjoying the bloom of the day being on the homepage, Dave! Thanks! I moved it to the very top of my right-hand column, too. I always forgot to check bloom.com, so this is even better for me. ^_^ And I think the auto-watch is great. I'm going to go find some pretty flowers to take pictures of so I can have a bloom of the day one day! LOL ;o)

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Dave, it would also seem that the Flickr site isn't being updated. http://www.flickr.com/photos/daves-garden/3764937671/

I disabled the flickr update when we lost the bloom.com domain. I may re-enable it, may not...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG I don't understand some of what you're talking about sigh. For me: YIPPEE Blooms on my homepage. YIPPEE a link to share about the bloom. I am a person of small needs. I think alot of members may be like me ^_^
