OK. With Chamberfest done, I can send out the Maltese Cross seeds. I probably have your addresses somewhere because of the gnomes (sure wish I knew where THEY are), but if you wanted the seeds, please send me a D-mail with your address. That way I won't miss someone.

Nice flowers, nice to have both of you back.
To type backwards and upside down, I did a google search for backwards text. there's many to choose from. It's fun to be the first among your friends who use it.

Was wakened at 5am by the lovely summer breezes filtering through the windows of the house, and, carrying with them the OH SO UNPOPULAR scent of a SKUNK !!! Peeeeeeee EWEWEWEwewe !!!

It seems to have taken a while for the warm humid temps to gravitate from BC to NW Ont. but .. arrive they have .. instead of the thermometer reading 45F this morning (outside), we're already at 62F and headed for around 30+ with the humidex ... it'll be happening most of the week ...

Off to do some grocery shopping today .. Zellers has a HUGE sale on right now, BOOKS, and .. the CookBooks I have been purchasing off and on over the years .. "Company is Coming" .. are 60% off .. anyway .. I bought one yesterday and found some awesome recipes in it .. now I have to buy the ingredients ..
I can imagine that lots of people forego cookbooks and opt for computer searches .. I know I tend to be like that .. but, I also like to sit and peruse a cookbook.

Hope everyone has a SUPER week !!

Old age

FOR A-L-L YOU PEOPLE WHO THINK I'M THE ONLY ONE GETTING OLD.....

... inch by inch and day by day!

Just in case any of you ever meet any old people, this will help you understand them a little bit better...

This is a story by David McClure from the Dallas News Community Opinion page.

“$5.37.” That's what the kid behind the counter at Taco Bell said to me. I dug into my pocket and pulled out some lint and two dimes and something that
used to be a Jolly Rancher.

Having already handed the kid a five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab some change when the kid with the Emo hairdo said the harshest thing anyone has ever said to me.

He said, "It's OK. I'll just give you the senior citizen discount."

I turned to see who he was talking to and then heard the sound of change hitting the counter in front of me.

"Only $4.68" he said cheerfully.

I stood there stupefied.

I am 48, not even 50 yet - a mere child! Senior citizen?

I took my burrito and walked out to the truck wondering what was wrong with Emo. Was he blind?

As I sat in the truck, my blood began to boil.

Old? Me? I'll show him, I thought. I opened the door and headed back inside. I strode to the counter, and there he was waiting with a smile.

Before I could say a word, he held up something and jingled it in front of me, like I could be that easily distracted!

What am I now? A toddler?

"Dude! Can't get too far without your car keys, eh?"

I stared with utter disdain at the keys.

I began to rationalize in my mind. "Leaving keys behind hardly makes a man elderly! It could happen to anyone!"

I turned and headed back to the truck. I slipped the key into the ignition, but it wouldn't turn. What now?

I checked my keys and tried another. Still nothing.

That's when I noticed the purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror. I had no purple beads hanging from my rearview mirror.
Then, a few other objects came into focus. The car seat in the back seat. Happy Meal toys spread all over the floorboard. A partially
eaten doughnut on the dashboard.

Faster than you can say ginkgo biloba, I flew out of the alien vehicle. Moments later I was speeding out of the parking lot, relieved to finally be leaving this
nightmarish stop in my life. That is when I felt it, deep in the bowels of my stomach: hunger! My stomach growled and churned, and I reached to grab my burrito, only it was nowhere to be found.

I swung the truck around, gathered my courage, and strode back into the restaurant one final time. There Emo stood, draped in youth and
black nail polish. All I could think was, "What is the world coming to?" All I could say was, "Did I leave my food and drink in here?"

At this point I was ready to ask a Boy Scout to help me back to my vehicle, and then go straight home and apply for Social Security benefits.

Emo had no clue. I walked back out to the truck, and suddenly a young lad came up and tugged on my jeans to get my attention. He was holding up a drink and a bag. His mother explained, "I think you left this in my truck by mistake."

I took the food and drink from the little boy and sheepishly apologized.

She offered these kind words: "It's OK. My grandfather does stuff like this all the time."

All of this is to explain how I got a ticket doing 85 in a 40.

Yes, I was racing some punk kid in a Toyota Prius. And no, I told the officer, I'm not too old to be driving this fast.

As I walked in the front door, my wife met me halfway down the hall.

I handed her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding ticket.

I promptly sat in my rocking chair and covered up my legs with a blanky.

The good news was I had successfully found my way home.

Too cute..lol..

Kind of get a kick out of saying 'seniors discount please'..still a few years to go but shucks, not likely will they ask...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Glad you liked the joke .. I sure chuckled .. the part about the car hit close to home as I tried to get into a car almost identical to mine in the WalMart parking lot a few weeks back .. in fact .. I was getting so angry because the doors/trunk wouldn't unlock with the keyless remote, that I was about to phone Toyota on my cell phone when I realized the windows of the car I was trying to get into, were NOT tinted and mine are !!! My car was 4 cars down :-(
I was SO glad the person had LOCKED their doors, or, I would have been sitting inside doing a slow boil as I fiddled with the ignition !!
Life can sure be funny ^_^

We have HUMIDEX and we have MUGGY .. but .. I do believe for probably only one more day .. can't imagine how the BC ers coped for the weeks it lingered there ..

I thought today would be a 'STAY PUT' day .. but .. dontcha know I went shopping yesterday and FORGOT Gatorade!!
Didn't have it written down, thought I;d remember on my own ... NOT !!!

Made 'Seafood Risotto' last night .. from the 'Company's Coming Low Fat' cookbook .. awesome recipe .. definitely a keeper ^_^

Off to shoo away some VERY noisy crows !!!

Enjoy your day

"M" did the same in Buffalo a few weeks ago..Mom got a new car, I dropped her off at Kmart and went to Joanne's Fabrics...shopped came out and there was a light blue van, got in it, tried to put the keys into ignition, really did smell like a vehicle that someone smoked in for a long time, seat was back with blanket and I thought ...oooops, wrong vehicle..not sure if my key unlocked it or it was unlocked..could have gotten into trouble..

Gorgeous day here and guess for the next week or so..finally, we'll be able to enjoy being outside and getting some gardening done..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

We hit 100F here today ..ONE good thing .. there was at least a breeze .. warm as it was ..
Not used to temps like this, but, anyday spent NOT shovelling snow, is a GOOD day ^_^

Did my first aquafit class in awhile today and it was a good one. Gonna be hot for a change. Am thinking I'll mostly stay inside though I need to tie up my tomato plants.

Weather folks keep predicting rain so I hold off on watering and then it doesn't happen! Looks very treatening out there this morning. If it is going to happen now I want it to hold off for an hour or two cause I have 4 dogs to walk - two and two!

Got a paniced phone call early yesterday from one of our adopters - she has my foster Tango from last winter - going on vacation today and something got mixed up with lady who usually takes dogs, no contact, doesnt want to take to kennel she never checked , would I , could I take dogs? A few moments thought - Tango and I know each other, King ( 7 yrs) doesnt know me but is rather shy and easy care, an extra $300.00 this month- and I said yes so they arrived last evening. All well to this point, King keeps standing and gazing out the gate looking for his folks but he will settle in in a day or so. They are gone 10 days!

Ive been busy in the garden, things cooled off a bit here which I like. Still digging out stuff from the front beds as part of the renovation. Once I get everything removed that I want I can then shift a few things to new position and be ready to put in peonies coming in Sept and add whatever new plants needed next spring. All this in aid of simplifying the upper beds in the front- too much stuff there, trying to cut back to maybe 4-5 main species, anchored with peonies. It is hard to remove old favorites but I am trying and mostly they are going to 'good homes'!

Here's my visitors - Tango and King.

Aren't they the cutest..good for you, can always use $300. - nice time to treat yourself to something you've wanted...

Weather is the strangest..HWY 400 closed last night just north of here, had to take all back roads to get home..freaky weather and power lines down across the highway both south and north directions..in Toronto, sky was blue, within a second lightning hit a mom, her child 5 and another child 4..mom is doing ok but 2 children in critical condition..you just don't know do you..

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Weather here has changed to cloudy and cooler with the odd shower. I am enjoying the change from the heat. Supposed to start climbing again on Sunday. I'll enjoy these temps in the 20's until then.

You've got some very pretty houseguests there, Carol.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Oh Carol .. Tango and King are beautiful bright eyed dogs .. you're very kind to take them ..

Was in town by 9am today and home by 110am .. I won't even bother with going to my brothers. The temp is again 100F and I am feeling so sorry for anyone with breathing problems, can well remember my evening shifts in weather like this and the patients with respiratory problems needing inhalation treatments ..

Made a macaroni salad and a potato salad and am calling it good ..

Betty .. I watched the footage of that lightning strike on Global last night .. how horrifying.
I know Lorna's folks in King City (just north of Toronto) said that when they looked towards Toronto during the lightning storm, it was if bombs were exploding there !!!
I don't mind thinder, but lightning is a whole other ball of wax !!

Enjoy your cooler temps Don :-)

I'm back, sorta....... raging case of food poisoning, and was I SICK..........
won't go into details, but it was naaaaaaasty.......
Tummy's a little tender, but my strength is much better, and I can hold food now. Not eating much, until maybe tomorrow.

Hope everyone's doing well - just popped in to say "Hi"

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Glad to hear you are feeling better Susan.

"Bottoms Up", ~M~ !

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Glad you feel better Susan ... feel bad re the food poisoning though .. I can imagine you were very ill ..

I decided to choose iced tea over beer .. for some reason I couldn;t imagine drinking a whole beer .. if we had had clamato juice .. well .. that'd have been different .. LOVE that stuff .. but .. the salt content is horrifying !!!

Temps are gradually creeping back down .. WHEW !!!

Take care

Glad you are feeling better.

Marilynne, I know exactly what your weather is like and I;m happy to say I was caught in a down pour today while walking that darn mutt of mine. I had enough of that heat in July!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Mornin all .. TGIF .. and UGggggggggggg to another day of heat and humidity in North Western Ont.
Actually right now it's very foggy out there, once that burns off I fear we shall SIZZLE ...

Bought a 'Wardrobe' and will be attempting to put it together this afternoon. Have to go and pick it up at Sears.
Am anticipating a headache by about 3pm .. I have NO PATIENCE with stuff like that especially if the instructions are a hard to follow, or perhaps I mean the instructive pics >>>>>>>>>>>>> NOT !!!

The grounds are so interesting on HEAVY dew days .. all over the lawns you can see patches where spiders (my favourite ... NOT) have built webs .. what the webs caught was DEW .. and it makes the webs almost iridescent in the fog... should have taken a pic.

Ann .. I couldn't get the link for the ChamberFest pics to open.

Have a great day all

The other one had some extra characters for some reason.

Monthly aquafit breakfast today. Will be off shortly.

Am considering what hosta to move to one location in my garden. Want to vote? You'll find the thread at: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1026731/

It's gonna be HOT and sunny all weekend. What a change! Hope you have a great weekend too.

Hot weekend here as well...maybe it will be a 'just play in the garden' kind of weekend..

Susan, how terrible you've had food poisoning..guess it will take a few more days before you are back to your old self..

OMG dropped in to Canadian Tire this morning on my way to work, they had some perrenials, need a little love and attention for 5 cents..bought 40, shucks even if 10 live I'm still ahead of the game..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

g'morning - feeling ever so much better... tummy a little tenuous, but still... can do the laundry (y'know how much you hate to live in the same clothes when you're sick, but you're too sick to wash 'em.......)
it's raining again, and my mom leaves for home tomorrow @ suppertime. Promises to be hot & sunny from Sunday to end of the month :-( Why oh why couldn't it have stayed nice while she was here?? It rained the 1st 4 days, then nice for 5 days, then rain again!!

I got a new mantra when I moved to Calgary - "We needed the moisture......" for whenever it rained or snowed lol Well, we've had more than our share of rain, and a few of my plants drowned and died for all the rain we got! S'funny, cuz parts of AB didn't get enuff rain for the farmers - one farm hasn't had rain for 2-3 years! Go figure, eh!? Is this what global warming's about - wacky weather conditions that they've been promising we'd get for all our misuse of our resources?!?! I suppose so. We've been gluttons with our earth, and now we're paying the price.

ok ok, off my soapbox. Geeeeeze - obviously well enuff to get on a soapbox LOL

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

rain, rain, rain.......................................

Have to kick butt to get the dogs to go out so no walks this morning!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

WELllllllllllllllllllllllllll .. the Wardropbe was 'constructed' yesterday .. FIVE hours !!!! After it was done it looked KINDA ok .. the front door are not even :-(
Moved it into its new home this morning .. and .. and we were doing it .. KABAM .. it fell onto my right foot !! I have 2 broken toes .. and nary a thing I can do about it !! Splint'em amd tape'em ..
I have NO TIME for a sore foot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sharing a pic of my nephew .. .. so handsome in his uniform :-)

Off to soak my foot

rain, rain , rain........................etc........................

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Yikes that must have been painful, Marilynne. You'll be limpin' around for a while. Take it easy.

Mix of cloud and sun here this morning. Starting a new upward swing now. The Okanagan had record breaking rainfall yesterday. Rained from thursday night, straight through until last night. We hardly got any at all, just clouds and a few drizzles. Hard to believe the difference that 60 odd miles can make.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Susan ( Tallulah) and her DH brought her Mom to Lougheed House last Sunday for lunch and a tour. Here she and I are in the dining room- this is my new outfit - blouse is not finished yet, needs all the trims - but I quite like it.

Thumbnail by fancyvan
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Really enjoyed the tour Carol, and so did my DM & DH.
I'll be back........... ^-^
Looking forward to seeing what other embellishments you'll add to your outfit. Looks lovely as it is, actually.

My DM is winging on her way back to Winnipeg, as I type this. Too bad the weather improved Just as she was leaving but, of the 2 weeks she was here, we did enjoy 6 days of very fine weather and had a Wonderful time. Maybe next year we'll have her come for the last 2 weeks of July. July, I've been told, is the only true summer month......... and we'd like to have her miss the hustle and bustle of Stampede Week.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Lovely pic of Carol and your Mom Susan .. and I think the blouse is very pretty Carol.

Re the weather while your Mom was there in Cowtown .. well .. nothing much you can do about the weather but hope for the best, and, prepare for the worst I guess.
There was a wedding party here yesterday to do pics following the wedding .. they arrived, spent about 40 minutes .. then .. the rain started .. luckily they had had their ceremony (outside) by Kakabeka Falls, and nary a drop of rain.

I am movin slow today .. as thought .. both toes are 'injured' .. the big one is pretty much purple and black this morning, and, the one next to it is swollen and baby blue .. thank heaven for CROCS !!!

Foggy day (so far) rain overnite .. already humid with a temp of 18C.
Lorna's BDay is tomorrow .. but we'll celebrate today as she is working tomorrow. She asked for Swiss Chalet .. sounds GREAT to me :o)

Smokey is not all that well .. seems to be having some probs with his breathing .. breathing rapidly .. he certainly is not off his food .. and is not lethargic .. trying to decide whether or not to take him in to the vet clinic.

Hope everyone has a super day !!

~M~

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Good morning,

Looks like another HOT and sunny day here (or it's supposed to be, but doesn't really look sunny right now). Gonna be HOT though.

Yesterday, I visited the garden of a friend I met on the Hallson list after doing a few other errands. And in the afternoon we went to the "open house" friends had. This couple of friends have just bought a house together and it was also her 60th birthday.

The surprise though, was that they went out and got MARRIED in the morning; so this was their wedding reception. They didn't tell anyone as they didn't want a lot of stuff, but I should've read between the lines on their invitation. They invited all the musical friends to bring instruments and we all took a turn at playing chamber music in their garden until it got too dark to do that.

The bride has played cello in the Ottawa Symphony with me for many years and the groom also plays cello with us in the Ottawa Chamber Orchestra.

I hope you have a good Sunday.

Ann
