What's happening in your neck of the woods...#21

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

me, Susan, did you mean, Marilyn?
When Ann said that, I thought "was it me?" but CRS hit, and I'm not sure........... lol
maybe a previous thread...........arrrrrrrrrgh CRS!!!
I would love a Maltese Cross tho.........I don't have one - I have Jacob's Ladder for the 1st time - wow is it growing tall!!!

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I've got enough seeds that I could send them to several people. I can't guarantee they will grow well for you though. But I guess it's worth a try for the price.

Ann

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Thank you, Ann - if you'd send me seeds, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm sure the Maltese Cross is something that will grow here ^_^

Victoria Harbour, ON

Perhaps it was me as well..lol

Quite the storm that passed through Kentucky yesterday..we were out sightseeing, stopped underneath an underpass, let the worse go by and then headed to Shar's...hydro was out all night

It's nice to visit by candlelight..

Hot/humid again today..well, did ask for nice weather didn't I???

Keeping to schedule, will be leaving around 8 or so for St.Louis

Talk soon

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have one Susan and will collect seed for you and save you the postage Ann ^_^ Note it is a prolific self seeder in my garden Susan so you might want to dead head it once it starts flowering unless you want lots of babies. It is actually considered an 'oramental invasive' in AB.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Am pretty sure that Maltese Cross is what I have growing in the ditch .. perhaps I'll just leave it there if it's invasive .. looks pretty with the black eyed susans and daisies ^_^

Went to my cousins funeral this morning .. very large affair .. felt bad .. his grown kids are pretty shocked as his death was, in a way, unexpected ..he was diagnosed as terminal 4 months ago.
to me, 61 is young !!

Beautiful day here .. cloudy (ish) ... but no rain (yet)

Off to make meat balls ..

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Rain, rain, rain.......................well you get the idea!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

and more rain, rain, rain........ we're just not used to this much rain here in Calgary....
and 3 more days of it (up to and including Sat).
My mom & I went for a walk to a corner restaurant here (2 blks from home) and the air is wet.......drizzling, but we didn't need an umbrella.

Thanks Dahlianut. btw - I got my Cal Hort mag & read your article in it. Very good reminder of what you told me before about Dahlias - thanks so much, authoress lol
You have a beautiful garden, and I think it would look lovely as a Dahlia garden, too!
My DH wants me to protect the dahlias we have growing, and he's annoyed about the windstorm we had Sat. He's really impressed with the dahlias' beauty (as am I!)

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Could you send some of that rain our way? We could sure use it here. Our province is ablaze with over 800 forest fires. The weather people keep teasing us, telling that we are going to get cooler temps and maybe thundershowers. But thunder means lightening and that's not good either. Yesterday's high was supposed to be a cooler 31...it went to 35. Today was supposed to be 29...it's 32 already. sigh

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Im sure we would all be very happy to have the rain go your way for both our sakes!

Unfortunately I dont have that kind of influence (sigh!)

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

DAWG!!!!!!!!!

I have completely avoided saying 'anything' about the western 'situation' ... every morning I turn on the TV at6am to watch the CBC news .. first and foremost are the BC fires .. and the footage and commentary is something that makes me want to DO something .. but .. I have NO idea what.
Had a bud who was at a large camping event near Calgary this past weekend .. she spoke of high temps which dropped and high winds ... then the in laws from Summerland tell of the situation there as do friends in Kelowna .. awful .. I almost want to not say anything about the rain that started here about an hour ago ..
This has truly been a summer to FORGET !!!!

WAS going to go out and dead head some flowers .. but .. not gonna do it in the rain .. will take Lilly walkin though, but not too far .. I do believe the bears MAY be near by and into the wild raspberries towards the back of the property .. do not think I have a 50 yard dash in me today ^-^

Looks like another full day tomorrow .. oh joy !!!!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Wooooooooooo Hooooooooooo .. first dinner of the season that included FRESH garden peas .. we picked them this aft and had them for supper .. honestly .. they were so good ... should be illegal LoL
First time I ever 'steamed them' to cook them .. definitely a great way to do it ..

Hope everyone is doing A OK !!!!
Wonder if Betty made it to St Louis ?

~M~

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Haven't had peas yet - need to go to the market tomorrow and maybe find some but I have been eating new potatoes for a couple of weeks and last night my first beets with beet greens too.
Still raining.....................sigh!

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Only vegetables I have had are Heirloom Yellow (cherry) tomatoes. Very sweet and yummy, but I envy you, Marilynne, your lovely garden peas, and you Carol, your new potatoes. They are indeed, the best!

Got a sprinkle of rain today. Not much, but it cooled us off nicely. Hope more will come.

Edited for spelling...

Oh my gosh the sun came out for about 15 minutes - first time since Sunday!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I saw about 5 min of "almost sun" through the clouds last night @ 5pm, Carol.......
I was sitting w/my DM and playing cribbage - I swear I saw the sky lightening. When I went outside, I saw light through the cloudy haze! The clouds didn't part, but they were thin enough to see the sun lol

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Oh my doG the sun is shining and the sky is blue and nary a drop of water in sight!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG what is that bright, beaming thing in the sky??!? HELP! I think maybe aliens are landing in Calgary! Carol quick bribe them with cookies!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Forget the cookies Im out in the garden!

Just taking a quick lunch break.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

LOL...We have sunny skies too with a little cooler temps. Maybe we will all have a nice weekend weatherwise. Heard we may get some rain on Monday. That will be nice too.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

27C here in Thunder Bay .. rain and cool temps predicted for the weekend .. up from the midwestern states to be followed with higher temps next week :o)

Enjoy everyone

Night/night

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

DAWG Betty .. sounds like an exerpt from a Stephen King novel or movie, just glad you made it home and I hope you had a wonderful sleep in your own bed and in familiar surroundings ..

Well .. all the rain predicted for today has headed east of TBay .. sorry bout that ... and by the looks of the radar pics it is BAD weather .. lots of yellow and red cells.

Taking Lilly to 'HER STORE' to go shopping today .. not that she'll shop .. but she'll sniff the place from back to front .. nice that these pet stores alllow dogs in on leash.

Enjoy your day ~~

Morning, overcast today which is fine and tomorrow it's going to be up around 31 so today will be a play in the garden day, tomorrow perhaps a day on the lake..haven't even taken the Foxy Lady out this season, most weekends it's rain/rain/rain..

I just couldn't believe the beauty in my gardens when I got home..just making a coffee and out I go and do the walk around..haven't even been out front and I'm in awe...

I've received many beautiful pieces of yard art so anxious to see where I'll put them...really they are too beautiful to go outside but know they must...

What kind of weather are you having today? Any special plans...

Your Country Gardens are a treat to see Betty. Can't wait to see your new yard art and hear the story about the cornfield.

Weather here will be nice today. Mix of sun and cloud with high of 28C.

Here's a shot of my Star of India Clematis.

The flower pics are DEELIGHTFUL guys :-)
Just amazing colour on the Clematis Don .. I have had NOTHING but bad luck with them ..
Betty .. well .. your gardens missed you BUNCHES .. just look at the show they have put on for you !!
That Cream Lily is stunning to say the least ..

A sort of ''sultry but cloudy' day here .. feels as though it could storm BIGTIME at any moment .. but .. according to any of the weather info I have .. ie radar etc .. it's not about to happen.
The Weather Channel is predicting (with humidex) temps in excess of 40C down east tomorrow and into the new week .. AKkkkkkkkkkkk .. I see a few high 20s #s for us as well .. one good thing, it'll spur on the veggies and the blooms ..

Catch ya on the flip side

So it was mostly overcast with a small rain shower that probably had so little rain it wouldn't register.
I hope those of you that get up into those high very high humidex numbers can ride it out.
Quiet day around here.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

How'd you DO that LoL .. thought I was SO not awake !!!!
Wonder how many others are going to do the same double take as I did .. love it !!

Zippety doo da for rain here .. but .. we have fog .. kinda feel as though I should be on the oceans shore listening to the fog horns blast.

Made a fresh blueberry pie yesterday .. they are in season here (the berries) .. have pretty much self picked out in the boonies, but, we have wolf and bear probs in the surrounding areas here .. so .. 3 years ago I decided to let others do the picking and I'd just pay the price .. I always 'qualify' it because it happens but ONCE a year.
Today .. it's a peach pie on the make for Lorna's boss .. his birthday is the 13th and he hasn't been that well, and his favourite pie is fresh peach .. and .. thank you BC .. we have LOTS here ^_^

Enjoy your day everyone ....

Morning, yep, thought the keyboard went crazy..lol..cute...

Rain started last night around 9pm and didn't stop till nearly morning..guess I won't have to water the gardens..calling for extreme heat and humidity today but it might have changed...

It will be seed picking day today and dead heading...nothing looks a sight than dead flower heads don't you think...

Couldn't believe that yesterday I did nothing, those were a lot of miles, my body must have said 'enough is enough'..

Had thought of taking the Foxy Lady out today but it's still overcast..of course it's still early so we'll see what the day brings...

Off for my coffee and watch Joel Olsteen ministries..can't miss his sermon...

Enjoy your day...

Pass a piece of the pie "M" sounds delicious..

Another person wants to know how you write upside on DG!

Chamberfest is over for another year. At 93 concerts/events, it is still the largest such festival in the world. I managed to work on 29 of those concerts and also helped at 2 rehearsals. Got to parts of a few more concerts in the audience, but decided I didn't like the venue where the afternoon concerts were held.

Now, well I've got one dirty house, I need to do some grocery shopping and I'll get my hairs cut this week. I don't think I'll have withdrawal pains that are too severe. I will also get to visit DG a bit more regularly.

Cloudy Sunday here. Likely to rain soon, I think. Nothing changes.

Ann

Victoria Harbour, ON

Storm just passed through, wow, lots of noise..rumbling galore..hope it misses you all...or perhaps not, some of you are in need of rain...

Out to the gardens I go, sun is starting to show itself..

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Just popped on with a little tidbit for all you bakers :o)
I started to get my 'stuff' together to make my dough mixture .. I make enough dough at one time to make 3 or 4 double crust pies. I pull down the flour cannister .. DAWG .. MAYBE 3 cups of all purpose flour .. I need 6 !!
Well .. right beside the All Purpose flour is my BREAD flour .. I take some of that and run it through my hands .. then some of the all purpose .. and I think .. "hmmmmmmmmmm .. not really a big diff' .. so .. I made my dough with the bread flour, made the peach pie .. and .. I don't think I will ever go back to All Purpose flour for pie crust again !!

Nice to hear all is said and done with the Chamberfest Ann .. you've been missed .. glad you had a good experience, but, I also hear you on the long forgotten house work and SHOPPING .. sneaks up on ya fer sure ..

Betty ... our weather is NUTSO today ..
VERY humid .. dark clouds .. spits and spats of rain .. then BRILLIANT sun and heat that's cook an egg on the patio I am sure !!!
We have a 40 to 60% chance of a thunder boomer later .. guess we'll see .. if it happens I can imagine it happening when steaks go on the barbee !!!!

Back out I go .. have changed Tshirts twice already due to the humidity AND the fact Lilly LOVES to PLAY ball in the heat !! Silly gurl LoL

~M~

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hope you are all ok and safe from the storms..

One passed through this morning, got extremely humid!

Saw the t.v. announcing a 'severe storm warning', sky is black, thunder/lightning, wind picking up .. heard that Calgary and a few other regions is having the same..

Be careful..

Think I best shut the computer down...

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Good luck, you guys! Stay Safe.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Well .. Thunder Bay is doin way OK :o)

Have a few pics to post ..

The first is what I think you all are calling 'Maltese Cross' .. it grows wild here in the ditches ..
