Oh it is to early in the moring for me to come off with an answer to that blond LOL
It was a big pink PIG. Being a Hog I guess LOL

Some man was on some forum talking about a swap he had gone to and got off subject talking with his friend and posted the picture of the big pink pig planter, planted. Sandy needs to see it for a show she is doing today about planters. It's real important to find that one. She is offering a banana tree and some seeds also for it finder.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Good morning everyone. Mekos I remember seeing that pig planter but for the life of me can't remember where since it's been a long while back since it was posted

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

just came back in from mowing 'The Swamp'... what I less than affectionately call my front yard. its on a slope and the bottom 10 feet next to the road is a swail (sp) that just stays nice and wet all summer long and is darn near impossible to get a mower thru. would serve better as a bog garden if only the city would allow me to turn it into one.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

I was just thinking plant flowers in that spot when you said they wouldn't allow it. Pooh maybe not a bog but just plant flowers that can handle the wet like irises

LOCA FOUND THE PIG!! Congratulations LOCA!!!!! Take your bow. and choose your seeds. Sandy is also giving a banana tree and seeds too for finding it. WOW, and it wasn't pink at all.(it wasn't planted either) Anyway thanks EVERYONE for looking. Great job!
WooooHooooo! LOCA!!!!!!!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Congrats Loca hope those seeds grow in your area does a banana tree grow there?

I was up until after midnight looking for that pig. I hope it was worth it. I'm sure she appreciates all, that all of you, did. She really needed it for today.

Morning everyone. Waiting for contractors this am. Going to run water to my greenhouse and faucets throughout the yard. HAPPY SMILE!

No pig yet huh? I've been looking for ya Mekos. Seen lots of cool stuff no pink pig.

Fl swells are the pits. I remember well Cue. Need a nice ground cover that likes boggy conditions to take over so you don't have to mow. Besides dollar weed. Something with dark foliage, pink flowers. How about some Ajuga? I think there's a dark cultivar.

Glad the pig is found. :)

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

So glad that was the pig. I wasn't sure since mekos said it was PINK and it was planted - lol.

Margaret - I know folks grow banana trees here, so it should - lol.

Sure banana trees grow here in my zone 7. Sorry about the info, that was the info I was given. Just passed it on. Glad it's found. Have you talked to her yet loca, to see what the other seeds were? And have you decided which seeds of my offer, you want? Let me know quick before the mail runs and they will go out this morning. d-mail me your info and it will be faster. Thanks again. I know everyone tried.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

mekos - We did d-mail but will talk tonight as she is getting ready for her plant talk, so not sure what the other seeds are. I think in the post she said she had Vallota seeds. Is that some kind of lily? I'll take the "Ruby Moon" seeds. You have d-mail.

Seray, you got mail.

Good early afternoon, everyone! It's hot enough here to cook eggs on my driveway, but no one wants eggs. I have 3 large containers ready to put plants in, for my veggie container garden, and I'm trying to root a couple of things in some smaller ones. Any suggestions for rooting a feather palm? I put root-tone on it, but it is wilting even out of the sun.

My magnolia seeds are turning red - doesn't that mean they are ready to plant? Is anyone interested in magnolia seeds? What do you do to grow a magnolia tree from them? Clearly, I have lots to learn, so please, educate me!

Also, I am looking for a good source for heirloom tomatoes; especially want to grow the "Ramapo" developed by Rutgers - I used to grow it in NJ. Will beach plums like the ones on the Cape of Cod grow in my part of FL?? If so, where would I find some? Also, have LOTS of regular basil seeds.

Hey Blond

Wish you lived closer you'd know exactly what I wanted. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as they cut through all the roots to my blooming crepe myrtles.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Duchess,

if you have an over abundance of magnolia seed, I'll take a few... would love to try and grow one from seed, but have heard theya re incredibly slow growing.

Hi Duchess

Moonglow has a great blog on tomatoes. I think she gets her seeds from here:

http://www.territorialseed.com/product/1578/241

Here's her site:

http://moonglowgardens.wordpress.com/

Hi Duchess, Southern mags grow from the red seed, but let it DRY,then put it in refrigerator for couple weeks to make it think it's fall, then take it out and put in soil and wait. It is slow to germinate but will. By spring you should have some babies. Don't freeze the seeds, just let them go through a cold spell like winter has come. But be sure to dry the seeds first in the sun in a paper bag or somewhere the air can get to them and dry. We have lots of southern magnolias around here. Huge trees with hundreds of blooms at a time. I believe they have to be 5-7 years old to bloom.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Duchess -

Victory Seed Company has an outstanding selection of Heirloom seeds, especially tomato seeds. They are in the Garden Watchdog Top 5 as well. Very good company to deal with:

Thanks, Cousin! I'll take some seed out of the pod to dry, and dry some in the pods, and go from there! I remember Daddy used to have them hanging around (not literally) the garage for weeks at a time - I guess he was letting them dry. I sure wish I had paid more attention and asked more questions of both my gardening-loving parents -- I guess we just don't know what we've got 'til it's gone. . .hey, that would make a good song!

We had a magnolia tree in our yard in Tennessee, and on the campus in N.C., but it seems to me that like adolescent girls, things mature much faster here in Florida.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Well congrats on the pig but that isn't the one I saw. LOL The one I thought she was talking about was pink. It was a very old one that someone had picked up at a yard sale or flea market. It was from the era of the cuppie dolls. 50's. It was somewhere here on DG too.
That one is pretty I wouldn't mind having it, and I really don't care for pigs. LOL

I have a big Southern Magnolia in my front yard. I will have lots of seeds. It has just finished blooming. I'll post them when they drop. Should be enough to cover the country like Johnny Appleseed. :)

Here is something a friend sent me and I think this should become a real survival thing for men . Whatya all think?

THE NEXT
SURVIVOR SERIES

Six married men will be
dropped on an island
with one car and
3 kids each for
six weeks.

Each kid will play
two sports
and either take music
or dance classes.

There is no fast food.

Each man must
take care of his 3 kids;
keep his assigned
house clean,
correct all homework,
and
complete science projects,
cook, do laundry,
and pay a list of
'pretend' bills with
not enough money.

In addition, each man
will have to budget
in money
for groceries each
week.

Each man
must remember the
birthdays
of all their friends
and relatives,
and send cards out
on time--no emailing.

Each man must also
take each child to a
doctor's appointment,
a dentist appointment
and a
haircut appointment.

He must make
one unscheduled and
inconvenient visit per
child to the emergency room.

He must also
make cupcakes or cake
for a social function.

Each man will be
responsible for
decorating his own
assigned house,
planting flowers outside
and keeping it presentable
at all times.

The men will only
have access to television
when the kids are asleep
and all chores are done.

Each man must
shave his legs,
wear makeup daily,
adorn himself with jewelery,
wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes,
keep fingernails polished
and eyebrows groomed.

During one of the six weeks,
the men will have to endure
severe abdominal cramps,
back aches,
and have extreme,
unexplained mood swings
but never once complain
or slow down from
other duties.

They must attend
weekly school meetings,
church, and find time
at least once to spend the
afternoon at the park or
a similar setting.

They will need to
read a book to the kids
each night and in the
morning,
feed them, dress them,
brush their teeth and
comb their hair by 8:00 am.

A test will be given at the
end of the six weeks,
and each father will
be required to know
all of the following
information:
each child's birthday,
height, weight,
shoe size, clothes size
and doctor's name.
Also the child's
weight at birth,
length, time of birth,
and length of labor,
each child's favorite color,
middle name,
favorite snack,
favorite song,
favorite drink,
favorite toy,
biggest fear and
what they want to be
when they grow up.

All the above must be completed while working
in either full time
(preferably) or part time
employment to assist in
the financial input for
the family.

The kids vote them off
the island
based on performance.
The last man wins only if...
he still has enough energy
to be intimate with his
spouse at a moment's
notice.

If the last man does win,
he can play the game over
and over and over again
for the next 18-25 years
eventually earning the
right
to be called Mom!

my dear fellow seed lovers,

i feel it my duty to inform you that should you ever find yourself in possession of a Black Pearl Ornamental Pepper plant and you are ever in a position to collect seed...

... please, please, PLEASE wash your hands very thoroughly when you are finished!

DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT touch your face with your hands, even if your hands are dry. nor should you touch ANYTHING that you think may even remotely come in contact with your face. To do so will cause an extreme amount of pain.

Please take my advice... as one who knows from experience... very recent experience, take all precautions when collecting seed from this plant - or trust me, you will soooooo regret your your lapse in care later.

your friend (with a currently burning swollen lip)

-Kelz

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Oh, Kelz! So sorry about your unfortunate encounter with capsaicin! Not much you can do for the burn... Believe me, I know - lol.

Very cool, Al! Thanks for taking us along for the ride, er, flight...

P.S. I've heard people swear that mayonaise will help the burning, but not sure how you'd apply it successfully to your lip. I know someone who wore rubber gloves filled with mayo to stop the burn. She swears it works - lol.

This message was edited Jul 24, 2009 3:09 PM

Al: How neat! Reminds me of Friday night football games when I was a kid.

Kelz Try a milk poltice (sp). Milk is supposed to help.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

We're now rising to 3000 feet and headed west. First, we'll view a small place called Smith's Pond, has a beautiful and scenic picnic area along the north ridge, we go there often.

Where to next Al?

Smith's pond is nice. Makes you want to take a dip. Fishing and swimming?
