Huzzah! It's raining.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

In the past couple hours we have gotten over 2 inches of rain. It has been quite a while since that much has fallen. You can almost hear the brugs slurping it up out there and watch as the leaves stop drooping. No amount of water can beat a good steady rain.

Off to play in the rain, Jean

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Jean,
While you're playing in the rain, do a little rain dance for me. I watched a good sized cell develop south of me. Unfortunately, it headed south.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Aw Bettydee, I am so sorry. The other day it thundered and carried on and got dark and that was it. For some reason, the rain has been circling us. weatherman talks about rain all around us, but here my brugs sit drooping in the sun.

Right now the frogs and toads are almost deafening and the pond is full of wiggling amphibians...I hope they eat a ton of mosquitos while they are out there.

Coushatta, LA

Oh ,you had to rub it in about the rain.Iwish it would rain for 2 days none stop.Where is it hiding when you need it.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sorry Rose, I send good wet thoughts your way too...grin.

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

Day off and I wanted to 'play' in the garden - raining cats and dogs!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

We'll take it! Sorry the rain is upsetting your play time. You can always wish it off on us...grin. We are so far behind on rainfall that when we do get it, unless it is thundering, I just keep working....there are always tons of weeds to be pulled and wet ground makes it easier.

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

Yes it sure does but i can't take the mud...and the doggies make the patio so nasty!

it's been raining here alot this year... sometimes a few times a day.. last night it rained for a few hours.. quite heavily.. it gives everything a good washing..... but this morning lots were drooping .. and just spent a few hours spraying my messenger ... on the clean leaves... and watering... all my containers are so small... or are covered with a pile of large leaves... even after the rain.. it's as dry as can be below... few of the containers extend out past the drip edge line of the plants..so there's watering all of the time... rain or not... but they do love the rain... even if t hey only get to drink through the leaves... but it does take som e of the urgency away... but not the need for watering... now that there's sun and heat in abundance along with it..

Coushatta, LA

Themoonhowl,thanks,for trying any way. (:-)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

All of my excitement over the rain yesterday was quelled a bit by 86 degree temps at 11AM. Got my own sauna out there....just me and the bugs. 10 minutes and you are soaked.....yeah, I know, whine, whine, whine. GRIN

Cody, guess we have to put on our warpaint and get everybody to rain dance.....maybe we could do a mosquito/gnat sacrifice to the rain gods....Grin

Yea,yea,it nice for folk to rub it in our noses.Knowing we are here begging for it.LOL!!!!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

We seem to have feast or famine where rain is concerned. Since this drought spell has been going on since 2005, minus a 7 month period in 2007 when we got near normal rainfall, I'd take a chance on trekking mud all over the house. :-)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I hear ya, Bettydee. Floors can be mopped and carpets cleaned, but hauling hoses is not my idea of fun....and it doesn't sate the plants needs either. Seems the rest of the yard sucks as much moisture away from the beds as possible. The grass trying to climb into the beds is so green and healthy. Rats!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

The drought has been bad enough that even Bermuda grass is having a tough time staying green near the house, but when it does get rain, nothing can keep it out of flower beds. It's brown, dormant and chewed down to about an inch from the ground. I hate it!. The house is situated in the middle of a pasture. We have mostly native grasses, but the Bermuda that is here is here to stay! It scoffs at RoundUp. LOL!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I actually read an article that was touting Bermuda grass as an excellent lawn choice. I guess it is if you have no desire to grow anything else in its vicinity......at least St Augustine is easier to pull.

Coushatta, LA

I have Bermuda grass in my flowerbed and it is a pain in the butt, because everytime i weed it's like i can't even get rid of it in my bed.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OH>>Rose Grl.. I hope you don't think it was me rubbing it in...and I didn't even post any pictures

Great skyline shot. It looks like a lot more than just a tree is growing in Brooklyn, Gordon....beautiful.

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

Oh my that's lovely....Sue

Coushatta, LA

OMG!!It is raining here.WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Coushatta, LA

So much for the rain,it didn't rain that much. That is crazy that it's raining all around us except here. What is the deal here?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

And crazier still that I can get so excited over a tenth of an inch of rain....grin. Cody, I have been keeping my fingers crossed for you and Veronica both. It is beginning to look like the only way we'll get any good rain is to have one of those (tropical depressions) Gulf of Mexico events.....don't want to even think the H-word...grin

Used to complain about the every afternoon shower...guess you don't know what you've got til it's gone.....GRIN

Jean

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

Booked a week off and so far it has rained every day :(

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Oh Sue, I am so sorry. From the radar pictures over the Gulf and Carribean, you may have rain the whole time. Bummer. I will send you good dry thoughts and Cody (therosegirl) wet thoughts and hope like the dickens they don't get crossed. Grin
Hope you have a lovely holiday nonetheless. Sometimes just not having to set the alarm is a vacation. Grin

Jean

Coushatta, LA

Jean, you know with it been that time of the year.It is good that we have not had one, because someone somewhere could have damage to their stuff.

I am justing wanting some rain.I guess since we had it so much last summer that the ones that missed out on it are getting it for a change.

At lease it was not hot and i was able to weed one of my flower beds.

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

Thanks Moonhowl, at least the garden is being blessed...maybe tomorrow will be fine ?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

According to the weather channel this area is supposed to have 40 to 60 percent chance of rain every day for the next 7 days.......somebody else needs to start dancing....GRIN. Need the rain but so much to do......maybe now I can just play in the rain.

Coushatta, LA

Honey,i already done mine rain dance, you see it don't get me nowhere.LOL!!So someone else go out and dance for a change. (:-)

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Rain?? What is that ? I havent seen rain in so long... doing the rain dance here..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

It would seem that everyone's rain patterns are running askew, not to mention the heat and in some areas much cooler temps than normal.
I see all the signs imploring us to save the planet, but think they should read: Save us, or the planet will save itself from us.

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

Good for the planet I say.......my precious Brug seeds have been soaking now for two days in water with a splash of Hydrogen Peroxide but they don't seem to be softening at all. Also they are floating, is that bad? Do you think they should go in potting mix without my removing the outside stuff?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

it just takes longer to sprout out with the outside stuff on... and it's rotting away increases the chances of having a rotting seed inside.. at least that's how it seems to me.. it 's a faster cleaner grow out pealing them..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sue, how is the vacation going? Hope the rain slacked off so you were able to play outside.

St John's, Antigua and Barbuda(Zone 10a)

It has rained every day for the week, but on the islands the rain is usually shor lived so yes I have had some 'play' in the garden, cleaned out my potting area so that is great.
Gordon Hwak how long do you think they should be soaked?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

well.. i peal them dry.. just what might flake of the edges.. then I soak them a day or so soften the husk... then I peel them.. and return them to the water for a days soak to rehydrate the dry seed it's self.. then plant..
on one type of seed..Ihad threesprout right away... then nothing on the others.. so I put it in soil in a big saucer.. and put it outside. and 4 months later the others are sprouting from that batch.. then just be patient
