July II Gessie Blooms and Plants

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

When I get tired of Rococco I will just take her leaves and stick them............she is precious and I, too, am a sucker for any pink double av.

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

Good morning, Everyone!

I have slacked off my pain meds now and can hopefully type again. Loved reading the threads and seeing all of the beautiful pics that were posted. Gail, I am sure those babies that I have will have some double blooming pinks on them. I will be more than happy to share what I have. This includes the pic above once these get a little bigger. I will show you pics as they grow and bloom then you can pick what you want :)

Connie

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Connie..........I am potting up daily from so many stuck av and strep leaves..........I figure they will be ready for shipping in about 6-8 weeks..........this will be fun trading with you.............

I have to know everything about everyone as I worry when someone has to take pain pills........I take them, too , when I need them..........but just worry what is wrong with someone that they are in pain.......

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

I had to have some minor surgery. Stitches will come out July 30. It was nice to scroll down threads and look at all of the beautiful pics. See, you didn't even notice I was off of here for a few days lol.

Those A.V.s that I posted a pic of are NOIDs. It is going to be fun to see them bloom for the first time and see what I actually have.

I was reading one of the threads where you were chatting about hoyas. I received one in trade and it is budding. Oh, I am so excited as I have never had them before and have never seen a bloom besides pics. How long does it take from the time of budding to open blooms? You have some beautiful blooms on yours.

I hope you heal soon, Connie!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Wow, so much has happened in just a week!! Hope you're feeling better soon, Connie!

I have my Alsobia 'San Miguel' getting some buds on it . . . I didn't know they like being outside too . . . I may just put it out on the same tray as the episcias . . .

Sorry no pix this time . . . at work. Will take new pix tonite.

Northeast, MO(Zone 5b)

Thank you both. I am feeling better now. Oh, yes...try to get a pic of your Alsobia when it blooms. I have a few more episcias setting buds so it won't be long.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Your streptocarpella loves it outdoors too---they are sold as summer hanging baskets up here.

Wow, that is pretty Sally. I love the variegated violets the best, especially with pinks and purples or pure white flowers.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I will be back to look at everyones pictures and drool later....LOL.Here is a picture I have of Guelph's Christmas.I can't remember where it came from.

I don't know if I posted this one before. It's still blooming. Rob's Whodunnit.

I love all these african violet blooms, ladies..........just makes my day getting to see what everyone is growing and enjoying.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Kohleria 'Emily Roberts'. I love this tiny little treasure. I will have to make room for more.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I want to grow everything and I don't have any good windows for light (because of our heat and air conditioning)..........So whatever I grow has to fit on a gro light stand somewhere. Emily Roberts is such a pretty kohleria.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

And finally here's strep 'Spinart x self. This was from seed received in trade. No fantasy colors on his one yet. This is the second bloom. I'm a little dissapointed.

I think she is great looking, Imadigger. The color is really special.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Look what I just noticed. One of my sinningias had a broken stem in transit so I just planted her in mix. Evidently she had already initiated a bud and now it is open and the plant doesn't even have roots of any kind (tuber).............

This is 'Vivian'.......like her, too......

Oh everybody's pictures are just sooo pretty!! I love them all.
Connie,I hope you are feeling much better soon ^_^. I have not had too much computer time lately, but one of these days I will catch up!!
All the violets are so beautiful and that tiny little Kohleria is so cute!! And Digger, the next bloom on that Strep. could be totally different. It's very pretty anyhow!!
Lynn

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Oh Vivian is certainly a keeper!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lynn, I didn't think you would have space as you are always talking about 'lack of space'...............they get so big David said that only 2 fully grown will go on a shelf...........we shall see^_^

Medford, NJ

Ima, I think I have Optimara "Surprise" but I thought from looking at the pics on the Opt website that it was "Michelle" - will have to check the site again. Mine was a "rescue" violet, literally on it's last leg and looked sooo bad at the store, but had one fresh perfect flower - so I bought it. Looking much better, but nowhere near as nice as yours!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Gail,
I have NO space.......at least until fall when I can send out many more plants to other members LOL......also no time right now!! Thank you for thinking of me ^_^ .

Lynn

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I just looked on First Class and there is not a Optimara Michelle listed........as a registered av.......I just updated my First Class????????

Lynn.....I have no space either..........until fall.....don't even know where I am going to put all these trays of av leaves potted up or all the baby streps ready to be potted up for fall..............

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Under the bed,in a closet,.......with Strip lites LOL!!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

There is a Rhapsodie with that name.

Gail I don't know about First Class, I have never used it - I found Michele on the Optimara site after I got mine and was trying to ID it. The reason I didn't think it was "Surprise" is because "Surprise" is listed as a fantasy, which I thought meant that the flowers are speckled all over - Michele is just a pink flower with the purple edging. I really don't know enough about it to say for sure, and unfortunately, the picture of Surprise (second link) on the Optimara site is not very clear. But my plant looks like the same violet that Imadigger posted - only it doesn't have the red backed leaves that Surprise is said to have.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I simply don't know my avs well enough to help identify them...........will have to grow a lot more avs..........to recognize them. Check out the one Lynn just found in the plant files....

Yes, Lynn........I can find one more wall in this whole house where I can add another plant stand, but there is only me to take care of them............I can barely manage what I do have.

Do ya'll think my adult kids would think I was growing weed if I put lights under my bed ^_^

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

LOL Gale, why on earth would they think that!!??? I have a perennial that I don't know what it is, but it has the five leaves like weed, and its in my front "red" bed, and my neighbor told me she thought it was weed, and I should pull it out. Ha!. Love all the beautiful pics. I didn't know there was a kohleria that small. I thought they were big like florist gloxenias. I now need some small kohlerias. This forum is so addictive. lol lurker lou

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Probably because they know their mother is 'eccentric'........^_^

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

You're right there! And proud of it! LOL Lou

Oops, You meant you and I meant me. LOL

jmp24, you may be right about the name. My Surprise came in a trade with that name on it. I went to Optimara's site and I think that it realy is Rhapsodie Michele. Mine does not have red reverse on the leaves but are green on back. I have one on Marketplace as NOID. I personally can't guarantee name, so I listed it as a noid.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I should have looked on the marketplace before I ordered avs from LLG yesterday.......bummer.........good for you, Imadigger!!

Medford, NJ

Ima, I think the red back leaves are what made me decide between Michelle and Surprise, because they are so similar, and as I mentioned above, my plant was in very very poor condition when I bought it, and I only had one flower to ID from. I know flowers can be influenced by environment, but not the red backs on leaves...

I don't know why Optimara doesn't label their plants with the names, since they go thru the trouble to name them in the first place. Most likely that would cost more money...which of course would be a cost passed along to us consumers.

I would like to have both Suprise AND Michele, one day there was one that looked an awful lot like Surprise at my local garden center, but someone beat me to it!

Attention friends:
Nichole has a thread about playing bingo during August..........please join us for the fun and great prizes............
gail

I wish Optimara would put names on, also.
I found all these minis and semi minis when I first started growing them. Found them at a nursery but never could identify them for sure.

I actually found 27 different kind at one nursery in little 2" pots..........they were all beautiful, but with no names, it was frustrating.......

Gail, could be Little Pawnee Girl, but hard to say, I think they come out with new miniatures from time to time, yours may be an older one they don't sell anymore. Love the shade of blue! You don't see the minis much in the stores. Sometimes around Easter you will find them in florist shops. I am looking for Little Hopi Girl, pink/blue fantasy.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

When I have time (after my grandchildren arrive tomorrow and then leave after a few days) I will go back and find all my pictures of the adorable minis and semi minis I found and post them.................
