Claire,
Well that's embarrassing; I subscribe to knitty.com and didn't even know those instructions were there. I guess I better check out the whole website and not just look at the patterns....lol.
Spinning, Sox and local Flox of Sheepses (and sparkles)
It's OK Loreen - Knitty has a lot of information on it. Too much for anybody to know it all!
I'M SO EXCITED I CAN'T STAND IT!!! http://www.calgarysun.com/news/columnists/michael_platt/2009/07/16/10152641-sun.html
I may copy this and slip it under the door of my city council. In a neighboring and far more urban community, Antioch, you can have 16 hens and a rooster!
Ahhhhh.....enlightenment!
CLUCK! I love it!
I'm thinkin a duck. QUACK! QUACK!
Ohh my my my I have tears in my eyes and my boss thinks I have gone off the deep end...
Glad I can catch up....
OMG Dahlia! A dream come true! I hope it works out!!! OOOOhhhhh so excited for you!!! Bawwwwkkkkk! Doing the happy hen dance. :-)
(only in my mind because I am home from work today with a back problem - severe muscle spasm to the point that I can't lift my arms...ouchie...)
OH dear Claire is it still really bad?!?!? Obviously so!!!! Hope it gets better quick as a wink!
I'm currently trying vicodin and fermented liquid refreshment, to try to ease it up. It's starting to take the edge off, but not by much. The vicodin is left over from what the doc gave me last time this happened. Sigh. I think I am prone to back spasms.
Hey people back from my Vacation and had a real blast and came home to a surprise my Broody Call Duck now has 5 eggs in her nest and my 7 brown red eggs hatched.
Had a whole week of fun and meeting new friends "gosh" my face book page is growing LOL
Nice to be back and i need to catch up {:~)
Ok read the post and got a few things to say dahlianut.... LOL
I liked this:
"Maybe we even require people to take a chicken course for a couple of hours. We're willing to do whatever it takes, because we want Calgarians to be responsible chicken owners," said Hughes.
Maybe this person should come visit me... I have NEVER had maggotts, mice or bugs Oh and the noise... well that is mother natures music.
"Let me tell you, it was nine months of hell, the worst nine months of my life," said Pidgeon, describing noise, bugs, mice and maggots which infested the coop and the backyards around it
I, for one have your back Dahlianut, just cal me and my merry barnyard will come rescue you....
Barnyard stink indeed...
Chickens EAT bugs, mice and maggots!! What the heck is he talking about?! If they're infesting the coop, there are no chickens around!!
Henrietta refuses to eat bugs, mice (well she is still a bit small for mice) or maggots. Instead she asks if she can come in the truck, and when told no--she sneaks into the knitting bag and comes anyway.
Henrietta is in time out....or watching TV....it is hard to tell, because she is excessively sneaky.
Maggots are good for chickens very high in protein they are just like any grub.
Does anyone here remember the maggot bucket?:0)
Oh happy Day dahlianut!!!!! I'm excited for you too!!! There are always horror stories that sound so made up... I ignore that part.. the good news is too good to let that lil piece of negative mess it up. :)
You didn't listen did you Claire!!
We are TRYING not to Catscan!
Henrietta is used to being with people more than chickens I suppose. She has developed certain sense of....well...independence, shall we say. Oh dear...it's all my fault.
Cat i remember the Maggot bucket ;~)
Don't beat yourself up Claire.. you did all you could.. you just gotta trust.
Sniff....she was always a difficult one....sniff....
Moxon, I don't want you to feel that I am holding you personally responsible for Henrietta's behaviour. She is clearly highly intelligent and utterly incorrigible. I think letting her spend some time with ZZ may give us a better understanding of her character.
But I do have the disquieting impression that there is more to her little trip than meets the eye. You mentioned earlier that the other chickens seemed to be aware of her plans. What exactly have they been saying?
Oh do bring her over Catscan.. I'm dying to meet her! We have so much to catch up on!! She would get a lot of inside information ya know?
It's....snivel....it's OK Catscan. I know, I can't be entirely responsible. After all (pauses to blow nose noisily into tissues), it's not my personal genetics we're dealing with here. Sniff. I would absolutely trust her with ZZ, you know, because you are both so chicken oriented and wise to their little antics.
Oh my word though, the impression you have....I believe there is something to be said for that. Well, today I have been in the house all day. I was taking off my swimsuit after water walking on Wednesday night and something went ***ping*** between my shoulder blades. I was in pain yesterday but thought it would be OK. About midnight last night I woke up in so much agony I thought I might die. Since then, whether I am standing, sitting, lying down, or otherwise trying to find a position of comfort, it continues to feel like someone is repeatedly stabbing a knife into my back. No really! It's horrible. I have some pain killers left from the last time this happened so I am taking those. It's not working.
So, I was sitting there, painfully crocheting a mushroom house for a crocheted hedgehog (later...) and the window was open. The hens were outside. I know they thought I was at work. There is definitely something afoot. Scrimshaw said something about Henrietta being "just the beginning" and then Sketch said "She is truly the trailblazer" and they all collapsed into fits of cackling and bawking and carrying on such as I have never heard. Then a duck was approaching and they ran her off as if she was carrying the plague. Glow (a bantam) asked if there would be enough room for her. I don't know if she was talking about herself or....well...I just don't know. I have serious worries....there is a plot in our midst....
Ice for 30 minutes then moist heat for 30 minutes... That's what the doc told me for my neck.. I was down for a year.. I did everything!
If you have a pinched nerve, no pain killer will work.. it's inflamed and causing the muscles to spasm... moist heat will help the pain, ice will help the inflammation.. Do try.. I feel for ya.. I can honestly say I've been there!
Scrimshaw ?? How absolutely adorable!
I think the chickens are plotting to take over the world..
Moxon--I do feel your pain--in fact I just finished my final chiropractic treatment for a knife-like (bayonet more like) stabbing pain in my upper back between my spine and shoulder blade which radiated down my left arm (sounds like a woman's heart attack--but I've had it before so I know the difference). This has been going on for over 3 months and I have been prescribed Vicodin and Flexeril to no effect. As I said, I've had it before, and was always able to find relief with chiropractic treatment--but this time nothing was working. Finally realized that my watch was pressing on the nerve in my wrist which was keeping the inflammation going. It didn't cause the condition--but it kept it from resolving.
Have you been icing?
Now as to the possibility of a greater Plot among your chickens. I will take Henrietta over to ZZ's tomorrow and see if we can get her to slip up and reveal more. I just cannot imagine what it could be.....
I agree with ZZsBabiez about using ice & heat; I have an old shoulder injury that flares up from time to time and that's about the only thing that will help the pain. I've had back spasms before so I can sympathize with you; muscle relaxers may help, vicodin does nothing for me. Hope you feel better soon.
Yup, the Vicodin is what I'm taking right now, followed by chasers of Char*onn*y. Yeah, it's the only thing that works at the moment. I had this happen before when Kelly and I were renovating his house. It happened when I put a respirator on over my head. (lead paint dust). It seems that it happens when I put my arms over my head, which is what started it again this time. I have been using an ice-gel-pack thing, and a heating pad with a moist towel.
Problem with me is that I am very resistant to medications of many kinds. Example: I had an upper-GI tract endoscopy done a year or so ago. They had to use the dose for an average 400 lb male before I was sufficiently "out of it" for them to do the procedure. They could not believe I was not falling asleep and they kept asking me to count to 10. I would count to about 15 or so, and they would say "Are you feeling tired yet?" and I would say "No, but my arm is REALLY burning" (where the IV was) and they would jack up the meds....and then the same thing would happen. Afterwards, they told me about that and I said I wasn't surprised because my dentist generally has to do 4 or 5 shots for a single tooth. It just doesn't work on me. By the way, I am not a 400 lb male. I am more like a 160 lb female, 5 foot 10, so not especially large.
Anyway, I will keep icing, taking meds, and having refreshing beverages. And listening to chickens.
dentist doesn't like me.. he can't numb me at all. as a result I take very good care of my teeth.. i do not like to go see him either.
Henrietta sounds a lot like a very sweet lil chicken i have here.
When I was on vacation, my sister gave me one of them massaging pillows for my foot when Thund'r stepped on it... OH the joy and relief from the shoulder pain, I use it now in my back... I love it.
Claire! I thought it was just me! I woke up during surgery and still remember the time on the clock!
When I had a lumpectomy, they were gonna put me in "twilight sleep" yeah right.. when they cut me I screamed bloody murder.. scared them to death! LOL Yeah.. gotta drug me up like an elephant.. LOL
That's why I hate getting stitches.. it is never numb..
Same problem at the dentist.. I had him tell me he gave me as much as was humanly possible..
Misery loves company? You are so not alone..
Catscan said: 'Have you been icing?' Dear Catscan I don't think icing cupcakes would be a good think for Dr. Doolotz to do while she is hurting. {{{{Dr. Doolotz}}}}
MsJestr I just say 'humphf' to the naysayers. There are always somebody who has to gripe about something. Just like Peppy Le Peu. Some people are in all abuzz about his ability to 'pffft' and the stinkyness of it. He lives under my shed and I never smell him. I wonder if I could train him to 'pffft' the naysayers.
My son says that my ranch smells like horse S$^% I told him I dont smell it... I also told him that he was use to the city smell, which when he came here, it was pure county Try as I might, I cant smell the horses nor the chickens...
They re-potted some of the plants in the lobby of my office--and someone used potting mix with composted cattle manure....not so good for indoors.
But, you're right, MissJestr, I can't smell my chickens either....
I don't believe people when they say horses smell bad.. LOL
That's because horses smell really, really good.
Unlike cattle.....
My cows don't smell bad. In fact I can hardly notice their smell out in the open. It's all a matter of what you're accustomed to smelling.
Maybe it is just my cows?
No, I don't have cows....uh oh.....
