Spinning, Sox and local Flox of Sheepses (and sparkles)

Oh Grownut, you're supposed to come up with the second verse!!! I was just your warm up act!

Clarkson, KY

Back in a bit, but in that little fit I neglected to mention how beautimous that was!!!

Lodi, United States

I will try the ice cream there when I go visit my Dad next month (I pass through Bakersfield on the way). Shall I mail you some, Moxie?

It is a well known fact that people who crochet AND compose are irritable and unreasonable--or is that pleasant and charming?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Erm....bacon ice cream is unlikely to travel well. But please do dmail me a full assessment of the flavour, mouth texture, and any notable characteristics, good or bad. Keep in mind I am a bacon addict. In particular, I am addicted to the J&D bacon salt product. Some folks are disturbed by their bacon lip balm product. I revel in it.
http://www.jdfoods.net/products/baconsalt.php

I am particularly fond of the applewood and the maple flavours in the J& D bacon salt, but i like all of them.

People who crochet and compose are irritable and unreasonable 3 days a week, pleasant and charming 3 days a week, and completely incomprehensible 1 day a week. The days change each week so do not expect to be able to predict which days are what.

Clarkson, KY

Erm...here I stand surrounded by various and sundry aspersions SOME jealous, but ever so socky and loving soul cast my way....
Here's the original text....thought I had an inspiration but it'll take more doing...

Oh, Skein of Divine...is what I was workin' on...don't know this well enough...

MULL OF KINTYRE,
OH, MIST ROLLING IN FROM THE SEA.
MY DESIRE IS ALWAYS TO BE HERE,
OH, MULL OF KINTYRE.

FAR HAVE I TRAVELLED AND MUCH HAVE I SEEN,
DARK DISTANT MOUNTAINS WITH VALLEYS OF GREEN.
PAST PAINTED DESERTS, THE SUNSET'S ON FIRE
AS HE CARRIES ME HOME TO THE MULL OF KINTYRE.

MULL OF KINTYRE,
OH, MIST ROLLING IN FROM THE SEA.
MY DESIRE IS ALWAYS TO BE HERE,
OH, MULL OF KINTYRE.

SWEEP THROUGH THE HEATHER LIKE DEER IN THE GLEN,
CARRY ME BACK TO THE DAYS I KNEW THEN.
NIGHTS WHEN WE SANG LIKE A HEAVENLY CHOIR
OF THE LIFE AND THE TIMES OF THE MULL OF KINTYRE.

MULL OF KINTYRE,
OH, MIST ROLLING IN FROM THE SEA.
MY DESIRE IS ALWAYS TO BE HERE,
OH, MULL OF KINTYRE.

SMILES IN THE SUNSHINE AND TEARS IN THE RAIN,
STILL TAKES ME BACK WHERE MY MEM'RIES REMAIN.
FLICKERING EMBERS GROW HIGHER AND HIGHER
AS THEY CARRY ME BACK TO THE MULL OF KINTYRE.

MULL OF KINTYRE,
OH, MIST ROLLING IN FROM THE SEA.
MY DESIRE IS ALWAYS TO BE HERE,
OH, MULL OF KINTYRE.

MULL OF KINTYRE,
OH, MIST ROLLING IN FROM THE SEA.
MY DESIRE IS ALWAYS TO BE HERE,
OH, MULL OF KINTYRE.

OOH HOO!

LA LA LA LA - MULL OF KINTYRE,
LA LA LA LA - MULL OF KINTYRE.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Yup, that's it. You really should listen to the original to get into the mood. A bit somber, a bit soulful and plaintive....dreamy even. Sigh.

It is now official. i am a complete knitting failure. I have been trying, for the past hour plus, to do a purl stitch. I am incapable. I have tried using 3 different books and numerous youtube videos. Every time I do 3 or 4 purls (or what I think are purls) and I start to get this long hunk of yarn between the needles, that gets longer and longer with every stitch, so that by the time I've done 10, it's about 6 inches of yarn between the needles. It happens every time. I am nearly in tears. I am such a dweeb. I'm going to bed.

(dahlianut swooning and the pumping crotchety hooks dropping in the swoon ) (AWESOME songs but being swoonful alas I may not sing) (ps I'm unconcious from swooning in case you forgot the 'dahlia swooning' part) (ps swooning has never stopped me from continuing to babble {snort})

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Dear Dr DooPurl I have popped up out of my swoon to say
"BEWARE DANGER DANGER! THE KNITTED PEARL/PURL IS EVIL. (ok that is all I had too say I oh I have swooned again)

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Oh I found you all...
Now I am again in the corner lurking and sulking... I cant knit, I cant crochet, I cant spin yarn and I wont make bacon Ice creme.. I can break horses, but there is not much call for that...oh and I am a computer geek...

I interrupt this thread for some exciting late breaking news... (Apologies to Claire)

BIlly has been invited to a 3 day horsemanship camp. They camp out for 2 nights in tents next to the Colorado River and learn about taking care of horses, and tack... The first day is spent setting up camp, learning about your horse. On the second day more horemanship, and we go on a 2 hour trail ride... and go fishing in the afternoon.. On the third day, they learn about cattle, castrating, branding, and dehorning and basic care of livestock. Each night there is a campfire with Marshmallow roast. I know he is young, but since he is so young, I get to go with him... All put on by the Hualipi (Not sure about the spelling) Indian tribe where he does his JR rodeo....

Ok back to the lovely yarn...(Thank you all for letting me interrupt, I am so excited for this time to spend with BIlly)

Lodi, United States

I wish my sons had gone to horse camp--I kept telling my older son to ask his grandparents for a pony--but he said he would rather have a sheep cause they looked softer to sit on (preposition dangling helplessly). Strange little boy.

"Beware, beware the Bight of the Benin, for few come out though many go in. "

It's a sea shanty about the dangerous currents, malaria and generally misery of the slave trade on the West Coast of Africa. Not quite as lovely as the Mull of Kintyre.

"Beware, beware the Purl of Moxon...." I started knitting when I was taking Organic Chemistry figuring if I could do one, I should be able to do the other. I then spent a week knitting 40 stitches of knit one, purl one ribbing and ripping it out as it curled into a tangled ball over and over again. Finally, while I was complaining to my mother over the phone she asked these wise words: Have you been moving the yarn in front of the knitting when you purl?...heg-duh.

So I ask you, Moxie, have you been moving your yarn to the front as you purl? Well, have you?

Clarkson, KY

ewwww........flog me now.........
them's called "Purls of Wisdom"
......................aah!!

(wunnderful, wunnerful, LOVELY news MisJ -thanks!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I would like to go to horsey camp sigh. Actually mostly I would like to be able to ride a horse without the horse giving me funny looks. That will be such a great experience MissJ!

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh Dahlianut, I am so pleased to see you are back after your swooning episode. I get swoonful too sometimes, especially when people talk about pethuds.

MissJ - there is always a call for computer geeks. :-) We are glad to have you even if you don't play with yarn. I am so very pleased to hear about the camp that you and Billy will be attending, and I'm sure you will have good pictures. It sounds like he will learn so much! What a great time!

Catscan - your son had it right - they are softer upon which to sit (note proper preposition use). Did you get him a sheep? Does he have a sheep now?

I did try to keep the yarn in front because one of the you tube videos stressed that, and I thought I had it in the right place. One of my Facebook friends who attends my spinning guild (tomorrow night) saw my plight on FB and she said to bring my non-knitting to guild tomorrow night and she will demonstrate for me and ensure that I do not leave the meeting without having the ability to purl. Such a pearl, she is. Maybe I will get there.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

Oh Claire... I was just admiring the most exquisite yarn at the top of the thread, and I did notice the sparkles... But what jumped out to me was the most awsomest(My new word for the day even if I cant spell it) color of Yellow.... It was like daffodils in the spring, like the color of the yoke of a freshly laid egg, like to color of the Yellow Roses that are my favorite....

And I must ask, do you play farm town or farmville on FB?? Billy does with my help..lol

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Truly MissJ, it is absolutely a golden egg yolk colour. I agree! the turquoise is like the Caribbean sea. I could call it "eggs on the ocean" but somehow that lacks appeal as a yarnage name. I don't know how much yardage I will get out of it because of the way I am spinning it so it probably won't be enough for socks.

YES! I play both farm town and farmville on FB. You can friend me and we can be neighbors in farmtown and farmville. I also play Barn Buddy. I will dmail you. I also play non farm games like Pirates, Castle Age, Mafia Wars, Underworld, Fairyland, Coconut Joe's Island, Robin Hood, and others. :-)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I don't belong to FB but I play Fairyland all the time.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Of course you do dear Dahlianut, but I'm not invited to the real fairyland, so I have to make up for it on FB. It's a cute little game with plants and plant pots and actually it has gold sparkles in it that you can sprinkle on your plants to make them change colours. And there are feeding stations for mice and birds and squirrels that come to visit your garden.

(Zone 7b)

I'm a Farm Town Fanatic LOL and i do Garden Hood ,Farmville ,Puzzle Bee, Farm Pals and i do all the silly quizzes.
Face Book, Twitter,

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I love Farmtown and like Harmony I am a fanatic.... what is Farm Pals and Barn Buddy and Coconut's Joes Island??

(Zone 7b)

You should try Farmville it's like Farm town only faster

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Barn Buddy is pretty slow and not my favorite. Coconut Joe's Island is fun. You have an island and you can put crops on it to make money and then you can build a straw hut, and then a stone hut, etc, etc as you gather crops and get supplies. You can also send out "expeditions" that bring back building materials. I will send you an invite for that. I don't know Garden Hood - I shoudl check that out!

Richmond, TX

Good Grief Mox! How do you have time for everything? I thought the livestock and the job and school and spinning and shearing and learning to knit,and,and,and... were already a lot, but GAMES too? Wow! No wonder you have no time to sulk.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I just spend a few minutes a day on each game, usually during my breakfast or supper because I always eat at my computer. Multi-tasker...

Richmond, TX

If I ate at the computer the keyboard would never work again.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

You need a blow drier for dog grooming. Will blow all crumbs out of the keyboard. LOL

This is not live stock but hope it brings a smile to y'all (please vote also)

Richmond, TX

I love the levitation ball!

How does the blow drier do on watermelon, peanut butter, and yogurt?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I think you need a shop vac!!!!! I thought I was messy !!!! LOL

(Zone 7b)

I'm going to look into the Coconut Joe's Island that sounds like fun and Garden hood is Boring i just joined it cause one of my many face book game players ask me too.

Multitasker here too i 'm always busy doing something and the computer i do business on it too.
So while i'm playing i'm doing business and gossiping and answering question and talking here "phew"
Not to mention taking care of my menagerie and doing house work and garden work too.

Kingman, AZ(Zone 7a)

I tanked on Farmville, but on Farmtown I am crankin...
Got the coconut joes one and tried it..
Since I am not going to have internet this weekend, I have not accepted any of the others until Monday... Dont need anything going to waste (Thats what happened on Farmville) on farmtown, I plant 3 day crops on Friday to harvest on Monday... then day crops until friday when I start back over...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O sigh I shall play with me, myself and the fairys in my garden. You guys are tres techie!

(Zone 7b)

Do you have neighbors on Fairy Land to play with?
All the Apps on Face Book have a place for neighbors so your friends can water and tend your crops and flowers.

Lodi, United States

My Divine Mission precludes game playing.

(Zone 7b)

Oh Cat but all work and no play ....................................

Lodi, United States

Knitting is a harsh mistress.

(Zone 7b)

LOL :~D

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

The new yarn is finished. Here it is. I learned how to Navajo ply at spinning guild last night, which is a method of plying that allows you to retain longer sections of colour in a multi-coloured yarn. I'm quite pleased with how this came out. You can't see the sparkles much in this picture but they are there. It's only about 85 yards though, so not a lot of yarn. Not quite sure what I'll do with it....
