I missed this one, but next time there's a houseplant swap, sign me up! I always have extras.

Houseplant Swap!
Shannon - you only missed it by 1 day, so if you'd like, I can shuffle the secret buddy names a bit....
Don - the reason I said Sept 14, is because it's cooler then (by a bit, anyway) and the plant or cutting won't suffer the heat as much.........PLUS if you haven't gotten your cutting rooted fully, this gives you time to let it finish it's rooting a bit more. The main thing is the heat, though.....
~Susan~
Gotcha...ok, I'll wait. Was gonna send mine out tomorrow. I'ts starting to bloom. Trouble is, it can be hot at one part of the country and quite a bit cooler at the other end. Found out the hard way in April !!! Lost 3 out of 4 in transit from Quebec. It was nice and warm here already, but obviously still cold in some places along the way. :(
yes.................. that's what I was afraid of, Donna
Well, wadda ya say, shall Shannon join? It would be easy enuff to have her join our group, but I leave it up to the rest.
~Susan~
Definitely!
Ok Shannon - I may have to re-shuffle some of the names, but I'll have it sorted tonight.
Please remember - Sept 14 for the send-out, as it won't be too cold or too hot for the plants or cuttings to survive. Just be sure to pack them well, and if sending on Sept 14, they likely will arrive before the weekend and won't be stuck in the post office (at least that's the thought lol - 'best laid plans of mice and men', doncha know?!?!)
Welcome to the Houseplant Swap, Shannon! ^_^
Shannon - I have your snail-mail address in the Address Exchange..... so will d-mail you, and your buddy.........

Ok everyone - the re-shuffle has been done, so if you didn't get a new buddy, then you're set!
Well, we're sending from Grand Forks, BC to Gatineau, Quebec! Quite a nice spread of cities and provinces!
Get Ready, Get Set............. root them cuttings, or watch the plant you're sending grow bigger! lol
To send - please water the plant well, or wrap in wet paper towelling, and then put your plant/cutting in a plastic bag. I suggest bubble wrap the inside of the box (for a plant) or use a bubble wrap envelope (for a rooted cutting).
Don't overdo the cost of postage! I know most, if not all, of us are in other swaps too, and we're watching the cost of our postage ^_^
Have fun with your plant! Send pics when you get it!
I guess we'll be "quiet" in this thread for awhile though. If you have any questions, please d-mail me ^_^
~Susan~
I'm sorry for the disruption; I certainly didn't intend for that to happen! I was willing to wait. But thanks for welcoming me in, and thanks to Susan for the shuffling. I hope somebody is happy with my parcel :-)
No disruption at all, Shannon!!!
We didn't have that many people, so it only took 2 people to adjust the buddy of - nothing to it!! ^_^
I'm Very Happy the swap is spreading to more people, actually!
With all new swaps, it takes time to get started, and gain interest.
Some people see it, but wait to see it's success before they "climb on board".
It's also the first swap I've hosted, so I guess I'm "on watch" too LOL
Enjoy!
~Susan~
You are doing a fine job, Susan. Thanks!
I's tryin', I's tryin' LOL
Now that all addresses have been updated, in the Address Exchange, and everyone has their buddy & the appropriate address....
shhhhhhhh keep your buddy's name shhhhhhhhhh secret lol
This is fun ^_^
Now, to get back to making my 10 quilt squares for the Signature Block swap lol
It, too, is alot of fun! I have to have 10 squares ready in 2 wks or less LOL
Too bad I can't ask my boss for time off to do quilting LOL I don't think he'd understand......... ^_^
~Susan~
Just a little reminder - Hope everyone checks their Post Office today for plant pick-up. We didn't pay big bucks for expresspost for the little plants to sit there over the weekend! ^_^
hahahaha ok, Don!
I hope your buddy is watching closely for their Prezzie!
^_^
~Susan~
Woo Hoo! I guess I am the first to report how thrilled I was to receive my "Mystery Swap" houseplant today. ^_^
Christine (ceedub) sent me a lovely succulent "Hawarthia", complete with growing instructions. Thank you Christine and I am honoured that you would send me one of your favourites. Arrived in wonderful condition and is all potted up and happy. I took a photo of my new lovely for you all to see.
Way to Go, Christine!!
Betty - that's a wonderful plant - I've never heard of it before!
I'd like to see a closeup - maybe I should go to PlantFiles for that.
Very interesting succulent!
~Susan~
happy to report I got mine today too! a very nice African Violette with growing instructions. It made the trip well.
thanks Don!!!!
Glad to hear it made it safely, Julie. I was a little worried. I hope you enjoy Lil Thornbird. She aims to please!
Don
Susan, it wasn't Betty that sent mine, but Christine. It is confusing, I know. Thanks again for organizing this swap. ^_^
edited to say, if you click on the picture, You'll get a close-up. :D

O that's neat!
I have seen that succulent!
~Susan~
Oh my, looks like it was bounced around a little; got a little perilite and soil on the leaves, and no more blossoms. :(
Oh well, I suppose that is to be expected. I am glad it's got a good home, Julie. You are very welcome. ^_^
It will bloom again, Its covered in buds and its normal that it got perilite and soil on the leaves. I've been lightly dusting it but violet leaves are very sensitive so I'm going about it slowly without getting them wet. In a week or so, you won't be able to tell it came from across the country :-)
Awwww, I just knew it would have a good Mommy! ^_^
what a sweet violet!
Wouldn't you just know it - mine hasn't left, cuz the roots aren't big enuff.....
I hope my buddy understands!
~Susan~
I mailed mine out Monday, express post, To make sure it would be there before the weekend. I'm a bit concerned that my buddy hasn't reported receiving it. Did everyone check their mailboxes?
I know I'm a little slow, but......... I didn't realize what was going to be happening at work - this was totally unexpected:
well, my brain's about wore out lol
I'm taking on more responsibilities @ work?!
I can barely catch my breath things are happening so fast...
I am currently the Division Admin Ass't for Gen Lab Pathology Division Head, and the lady who was same for Chemistry Division Head is leaving her position. She's on vacation in Paris right now, but when she comes back, she'll be doing a "point 2" in her old position, and doing a "point 6" in her new.
Which means, while she's in Paris and after she comes back to her new duties (and isn't at her point2 part of this one), I'm doing her job. Which entails meetings every week, and a whole raft of other duties. Research Physicians take a bit of hand-holding lol
ALSO, the company's asked me to take on another job which Was contracted out, and no more. It's looking after teleconferences for Medical Staff.
I'm having meetings with the outgoing person to find out the scope of it (YIKES!), and figure out who my "team" of three will be. I'll administer the project (big job in itself) - which entails scheduling my team to setup teleconferences, creating a library spreadsheet of loans/returns of materials (including chasing down those who don't return them in a timely manner lol), ordering the materials from Medical Companies (7 of them), and a whole bunch of other things related to all of the above.
I know this is all unrelated to my promise to this group, and I do have a plant to go out (I love these!) however, my week isn't "my own" anymore, and neither is my Sunday! The only day I can really call "my own" is Saturday, which is why I'm here.
So, my greatest apologies to my buddy - I'm pretty sure you'll understand, cuz you're a gracious lady, and I thank you in advance!
~Susan~
And here's the chocolate coleus!
Thank you Shannon! When I bring my other coleus in, it will be nice to have a small collection ^_^
I've always loved coleus, but haven't had any for a long time. This was the year when I was going to start them in the house again!!
How perfect that you sent it this year!!!
~Susan~
Enormous proportions?! oh wow!! I like the sounds of that! ^_^
Thanks again, Shannon!
~Susan~
Hi Susan,
I'm so glad you like them (and that they arrived ok!). I've never mailed live plants before. The coleus was just a stocking-stuffer or in case you didn't like hoyas - I know we were supposed to stick to 1 plant.
btw I erred on the name of the coleus - Chocolate Chip Mint is the right name. And as for the size of the hoya, well the parent plant at my dad's house fills the ceiling area of their little breakfast nook (maybe 7' x 3'). Although I think that takes several years.
I haven't checked my mail today - yet! Loving everyone's pictures so far. This is fun! Thanks for letting me into the swap at the last minute.
Shannon
ps: nice piano, Susan!
oh hahahaha the piano is circa 1870's, and I love it.
It was bought for my mom, many many many years ago, and when she gave it to her GGD to learn on, I was disappointed I didn't get it lol
Anyway, when her GGD wanted a new electric piano, her mom (my neice) asked if I wanted it. This was Just as I was about to move to Calgary. My sisters told me I didn't want to take the piano that distance, but I DID WANT TO lol
I'm learning to play, so I really enjoy the older pianos.
btw - funny/ironic story about the piano.....
When we moved here, my DH moved it in front of our large, almost-picture window, and I didn't like the loss of light. I asked him to help me move it, and he said "it's fine where it is". He should know me better............when he went to work on a Saturday, I waited until he left, then moved furniture around so I could move the piano across the room about 15 ft to a "blind wall". I got it pushed facing the 2nd wall (picture it being on wall#1, being moved to wall#3 facing the opposite direction), and when it was facing wall#2, it got twisted on a bit of wall-to-wall carpet. I was on the end, and pushing it when it decided to "take a header"..... If I'd been quick and able to get in back of it to catch it...... well, I wouldn't be here today, f'sure! It weighs about 800 lbs!!.
It's back was flush against the floor, and there are No Handholds on it.
A couple of older ladies said I could grab ahold of the fretwork on the front and pull up LOL it would have broken it for sure!
It took 2 men (my DH and a friend) to lever it up, and took 3 of them to get it placed against the correct wall I'd already gotten it 1/2 way, but they didn't want it to catch on the carpet again lol
Mint Chocolate Chip is my fav kind of cookie lol D'ya suppose it's flowers taste like cookies? lol
~Susan~
That's quite a piano story! Holy smokes. Glad you are ok!!!
I have a Yamaha, apt-size upright (about 500 lbs), dates from late 60s or thereabouts. I'm reluctant to play much in order to not disturb the neighbours, but the other day when my mom was in town she played Home on the Range and a few other goodies and there were no complaints. :-)
Well Susan if I'm your buddy, no worries - take your time! And Julie if I'm yours, I updated my address in the address exchange to Ottawa (not Gatineau) - Susan said she'd alert my buddy tho' so that should be ok.
Nothing in the mailbox yet ... but it's fun seeing the other pics! btw I mailed mine Tuesday (1 day late) and they said 6 business days starting Wednesday so I'm surprised it's arrived already. You just never know, with the mail!
Shoot! that's the problem. I just checked my mail and got the updated address, wish I'd checked that sooner! oh well, I'll start a new cutting for you Shannon. expect it in a few weeks. sorry for the mix up.
It's ok Julie! I had been away from DG for a while, and moved to a new home in the interim (4 yrs ago this Dec.), and just updated the address a few weeks ago shortly after returning to DG. So I'm sorry for not keeping up my administrative stuff. Perhaps the current occupants of the house will return it to sender and you'll have a cutting back. :-) Nice to know you are my buddy though - thanks :-)
Hey Shannon - they delivered it on a Sunday, no less!
I came home from church to find the box propped up against my door (on my closed deck, so no one would look for it there)!!
