Coming from here:

We're continuing the discussion of annoying or silly expressions and words.
Yes, 'staycation' is a new, dopey term.
Though not an expression, this is a phrase no one wants to hear or read. It fills us with panic:
'Some assembly required.' ^$%#^%^!#$#!
What expressions (or words) drive you nuts?? - Part 2
Heard another one today (which also reminded me of yet another).
'Holding your own.' I always had a problem with that one. I have always held my own. Not sure I want someone else holding it - though that depends. Holding someone else's can get you in heaps of trouble. Might be deemed, 'inappropriate contact.'
The one is reminded me of is 'feeling your oats.' Obviously, I feel my oats while holding my own. (This reminds me of matriculating.) 'Are you feeling your oats?' ' No, I swear!!'
lol
Victor, I can always count on you for a laugh.
That might be a new question for me, are you holding your own?
any comments i have at this time would det me kicked off DG
Well, to quote you from the first thread, Bill, get a grip!
too funny
Oh good grief. What have I stumbled upon?
Does "get a grip" have anything to do with "holding your own"?
Get a hold of yourself
While you're holding your own.
Get a grip of your hose
To water seeds you have sown.
Nancy
(ducking & running)
Oat seeds!
I've always appreciated those that would lend a hand when I was struggling to get ahold of myself.
Size issues, Dave?
Not our David!
How about those drugs (prescription or not) which have side effects like weight loss, weight gain, rapid pulse, slow pulse, mania, depression, diarrhea, constipation, trouble breathing and or death? Pick one! And this is to clear up your skin or cure a hangnail... Don't get me wrong, I am a huge consumer of prescription and over-the-counter medication. Which is probably why I've read so many of those idiotic warnings!
that is a pretty strong opening statement carrie?
carrie, DH told me to comment about the side effect littany on the TV medication ads. Ridiculous!
another annoyer: Informmercial scripts. blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, BUT WAIT more blah, blah, blah.
What a luvly thread!!!! If I happen to feel persnickety or, more often confused, about a word or expression, I simply cross it out in my dictionary and make up a new one I like better. Problemo solved! Here are a few expressions that I really truly like alot:
Balderdash
Pshaw
Stoned people shouldn't throw glass houses
Don't put all your baskets in one scrambled egg.
One annoying word when using your GPS is 'Recalculating.'
On the drug warnings, I love how they say if you get one of the drastic effects to seek help immediately. Duh.
hee hee
Now I want to find out if this phrase is regional....
What do you call something that sits across from something else on a corner???
(Fill in the blank)
You say it sits _____________ corner?
Are you looking for kitty-corner?
yes or alternative catty-corner
catacorner
Catty. I rarely use it. I would say 'diagonally across.'
kitty corner way up here...
This thread is too funny!
What do cats call it???
People-corner
Kitty or Catty here. Funny how the dogs don't get used in this manner.....
Had to laugh about holding, feeling, so I must defer to Bill - all comments I could offer would get me the boot, too. I'll keep them safe - don't want them mingling with the oats...
AND - DNut: yes - make up your own!
I truly love the word hooligan.
Vossner, that BUT WAIT guy died recently, you know. Billy somebody. They're still putting out commercials with his voice.
That's a dandy Katye! I think the kitty/catty corner expression is considered a math problem here. The answer would be pi.
.....and if the corner blows up its called a cata_____.
This thread is my daily dementia prevention brain use exercise. Kitty/catty....use them both.
Dahlia - now, get a grip......I love your expressions!
Dementia inspired this thread.
You continue to be most inspiring, Dear Victor!!!
Thank you, Louise! You just reminded me of another awful word that causes agita - deer.
Get a grip!! LOL
Ahem dear Victor I think that might be 'marauding deers'. Remember that Bambi is a deer. I think deers are ok unless they are 'marauding'. I think the raiding and pillaging part might be the issue. Of course I could be totally wrong. I am often totally wrong.
Dogs are in the "Dog House"
Meant to add a friend had three key hooks in the kitchen with each designed the names of her two sons and her husband, when any of them did not behave to her liking she hung a key on the proper name. Several times while visiting her, all three keys were on it
You guys are crazy!
I never heard kitty corner before, the phrase is in a book I'm currently reading, and I was like "huh?"
Maria that is too funny.
