the difference in Pink Jade. What is the temperature diff that causes that change?

The darker bloom w/vaeiegation...prolly @68 degrees. For subsequent blooms, w/ variegation--@ 72 degrees. It's been pretty cool here--wonder what it will be next time it blooms?

South, TX

Wonderful blooms everyone. I am staying cool, not feeling good. In bed with the laptop. Loving the photos.

Medford, NJ

ooh, Goldleaf, how nice of you...Lynn, those are all so beautiful and healthy - is this your first time growing episcias? One of these days I am going to try a few. I think what I love is all the pink involved! That Champagne Pink AV looks like a beauty too. I had some leaves recently of something similar, Rob's Pink Buttercup I think it was...I love the pink variegated more than anything. Good luck with them!

Thanks for answering my question, Phoebe, interesting just how a few degrees warmer makes that difference.

If anyone is wanting to order gessies right now, let me show you how many beautiful plants Lyndon Lyons Greenhouse shipped USPS to Texas for only 15.00
Here are the streps.
I am showing you the pictures as I received a notice from Kathy at the convention saying, "I am so sorry you keep having problems with my streps"............I guess so............compare the two leafed version she sends with these from LLG . Kathy's sold for up to 12.00 each and LLG has a very fair price and shipping, too.

These just arrived from Lyndon Lyons.........every single on of these streps.......

Here are two big great looking chiritas.........on the right side

These chiritas and the following episcia were all shipped together with my streps for 15.00 . They are very large plants.

Never could upload the photo of the episcia included in the 15.00 charge..........tired of those tiny wimpy babies from ebay except for lilriver and David T.

***edited to say I forgot about Neil's Streps 'Dennis'......and I am sure I am forgetting the other vendors who send nice size plants on ebay........

You're killing me, Gail! I've been drooling over their Petrocosmeas for days, but didn't know about ordering from them. Then I was told that their Pets at the Convention looked fabulous, and that their plants are generally clean from pests. Now I see these beauties you got! I think it's a sign that I NEED to order those Petrocosmeas from them! LOL Of course, I'd need a Strep or two, as well as an AV or two to try! LOL So I'm off to Lyndon Lyon... ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lyndon Lyons has always been my favorite vendor of all................never been disappointed in what I received... Although I got some streps one time that were mismarked, I didn't get upset because they were such beautiful plants!

Who are you talking about the convention. I am itching to hear from jannich.

Don't be afraid to order from them. I know that Goldleaf was disappointed in some avs but loved her streps. I shouldn't be speaking for her ..........smiling............forgive me, GL!

This is the same Rob's Blue Socks that I won the ribbons with in May. I had changed the lighting, removed most of the leaves, and changed fertilizer - with the result that the variegation is coming back, and is already starting to bloom . . .

Sorry . . . the lighting made it a bit bright . . .

Syru, your plants are gorgeous!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Sally!

Medford, NJ

syru, more light for variegation, or less? (love the Ramblin Sunshine, going to have to put that one on the list, so pretty!)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

In my case, I needed less light - I had too much.

Medford, NJ

Hmmm...is that the way it usually is though? With some varieties of plants, more light = more variegation.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

jmp24,
No, this not my first time growing Episcias, but it's many years since I attempted the light pinks.I hope I don't let GL down...what she sent was so beautiful ^_^.
Syru,
Your violets are so pretty and they look so happy!!
The rule of thumb used to be more light for variegated or dark leaved, dark flowered plants, but I don't think plants know they are supposed to follow rules LOL.....just do what works best for you.Sometimes more light brings more heat and changes a plants behavior.Sometimes when minis bunch up too much they need to be moved to natural light if it's available.I just go with my instincts.

Lynn

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You go, girl, on your avs!! Nichole, I have always been told to grow the variegated ones on the edges of the tray to get the best variegation (but I don't know why) so Lynn may be right and me wrong.

Yours are looking fantastic and I wish you luck , Lynn, in growing GL's new plants.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Took a few pictures tonight.
First is the funniest looking sinningia (gloxinia) 'Charlotte' trying to open. She looks inside the bloom like an actual face.

I took divisions of a lot of streps and it didn't even slow Midnight Satin down. Thanks again Bonnie and Sherry Burtchette.

i hope my leaf makes babies, wish me luck,i like that midnite satin ,even if its not named right

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I decided she was a Bristol's plant, but she is sooooooo large naturally I can't imagine a Bristol's being this large. Are some of the Bristol series large, Jim. Don't worry about your leaf........I am creating babies as fast as I can.................I am going to experience utter chaos in about one month.

This Copper Knob was ready but since she was the only one ready I didn't pot her up and now I think I am going to get about 4 babies out of her........

Jim, while you are around I have to show you something just wild!!

When I received some gloxinias, they were broken on the main stem, so I thought< how much fun that I can root these centers and get another tuber.

3 weeks later, she has a bud that must have been initiated earlier but the rooting of the new center didn't stop her from wanting to bloom.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

will do!!!

South, TX

Gail, those blooms are glowing! How pretty. What a perfect episcia!

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

I was given some gloxinia seeds. How hard are those to grow?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Melanie, they are very easy to grow from seed.............I didn't even use germination mix last year......just my light fluffy Volkmann's wicking mix. But, just to be on the safe side, get some germination mix and be sure and keep them domed until they are all up .......and going.

These are a picture of something else......already planted up.......sorry about that!!

I feel badly as I mentioned good vendors and didn't even say anything about Brennan's orchids. Many people told me they have gotten magnificent plants from Molly. She also hybridizes streps.

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Has anyone grown Alsobia San Miguel? I will have to do a search for who I got it from last year as a baby, but it's starting to trail! WooHoo! But, what I'd like to know is how big it can get? In the PF it only shows a height of 6", but is that because it trails down? Right now I've got 2 in one pot, but don't know if I should separate, etc.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

http://www.gesneriads.ca/alsobi08.htm

Here is a picture of her..............It looks in the picture like she has an upright growth?? I don't know.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It does trail, so I wonder if those are the runners hanging down . . .
