Daily pics #229

Dunlap, IL

That is a good pictures with the Orioles on the HBF.

Here is a few pictures from this morning's fishing trip. It wasn't too productive this morning fishing or Birding. A lot of catbirds out and couldn't get a good photo after many attempts. Seen glimpses of B Orioles, played hide and seek with a pair of redheaded woodpeckers, but never got the shot I wanted.

This nuthatch was a pleasant find.

Eastern Wood Pewee, or maybe one of the Empidonax flycatchers if I misjudged the size as being larger than it actually is.

You guys, are all exceptional photographers! I'm WAY out of my league here! lol!

Last year I saved a mockingbird nest that fell out of a tree in my front yard, all the chicks (4) made it out of the nest ok,

It was July, 2008.

Would you believe that they built another nest in the same tree on the same branch this year!

This is the nest today.

This is the mom guarding the airspace close to the nest today.

- Just thought you birdwatchers would like to know how much creatures of habit they really are! - I’ll post a pic of the chicks if I ever get to see them in the future, Cya!
(& thanks for letting me post these)

chris8796 a flycatcher of some type, Resin I know you know your bird's, but I have to many pewee's pictures to know it's not one of those. This pic not great but its a pewee.

I've had so much fun today viewing all the gorgeous birds. I especially like Gary's kittiwake and cormorant colonies, and puffins, Duc's crows and Nanny's woodpeckers. But, truly, everyone's photos are so special. Thanks!

I think your probably right on its one of the Empidonax flycatchers. The funny thing is I could barely see it in the woods and didn't have any binos. It was probably 80' away and I shot the picture because he was one of the few birds I saw not hidden by the canopy. The other photos were crops from a 450 mm lense. I'm amazed he was in focus when I reviewed the pictures. Here is the uncropped picture.

Thanks Burd, nice to meet 'ya, I've been around for awhile, usually on the photo thread, but I drop in now and then when I get a good pic for you guys or when I get something newsworthy. ☺

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

I went out to photograph the Osprey family today. First photo is of the family. There's a 3rd one but its tucked down in the nest. I got plenty good shots including nice in flight shots. I will post as I get time to review them.

2nd shot is one of the Juvenile testing its wings. The other had flown off the nest at this time.

Hi Burd - that one's actually an Eastern Phoebe ;-)
Note the clean white undertail coverts, contrasting blackish face and white throat, and grey upper flanks

Thanks! The uncropped pic gives a better background for estimating the size; I'd say it is smaller than I thought at first, so it would be an Empidonax.

Chris, great photos too! Love the Nuthatch and the Yellow-shafted Flicker. Sorry about the fishing, but the photos were worth the trip.

This Scrub Jay baby was tired of the Tree Swallows diving at it so it jumped into the feeder. I think most of the other birds will be glad when the nearby baby Swallows fledge.

I agree w/garden. Those osprey talons look deadly. Love the swallow and oriole kiddos.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Nanny, your babies are cute. Are they already eating the orange too? I've given up on my silly birds ever doing that!

Sandusky, OH

Resin lol alright np . whatbird.com is really starting to stink, but at one time I was calling that picture/s Eastern Phobes when I went to their site and listened to the audio of both. Some other threads here had Phobes but i couldnt get a clear id from those.
