Koko - BEAUTIFUL!!!! What a great collection of vines that you are growing!!! WOW!! I am so happy for you for how successful your grow-out is! The blooms are stunning!

The one that got my attention is this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6759231 It looks as though Shibori Purple x Gray Lady is showing much more of the Shibori Purple characteristics in this second generation of that MG cross. If you get enough seeds of this one to share, please put me on the list! I really love this bloom!!

I really like your Kurumasibori, too! So pretty!

and your Mutant blue needle nanding x Jishi turned out to have some interesting and very nice traits!

They are ALL just lovely! Thanks for posting all your photos! I hope you continue to post photos as your vines keep blooming! :-)

Koko, could you possible take a picture of a whole vine growing and blooming? I like the close ups but nobody hardly ever takes a picture of the entire plant. I would love to see what you have done with some of them.

Jeanette

Beautiful show of blooms you have there Koko... they are all lovely...but i'm taken with this one:

Becky as soon as this shibori set seeds you are the first one in the list, the same goes for you colin and the Blue Ray that Dany12 sent me

Jeanetter, if you see the picture of the fuji no Beni you will see that I made a trail for it to climb with two round sticks and I a piece of a metallic net cut to fit the pot. I made this with each one of them cause I was kind of tired to see how they mixed up together and wanted to keep them separated so I thought of this idea that will always keep them in the pot climbing up or left or right or down but never to the next pot

Sorry if I dont make myself understood here with what I want to say but it's hard to explain it.

This is just an easy and cheap way to make your own little trails for each pot

Thanks, Koko, for the offer to save me some seeds!

I was looking at the Fuji no Beni photo when you first posted it and was trying to figure out how you had the trellis constructed. That's a very cool idea! I really like your idea! I may try something similiar here. You know what they say ... the best form of flattery is someone who copies you or your idea! :-) Thanks for explaining how you created it! :-)

Honestly ... ALL of your blooms are beautiful! Interesting how your LYK turned out. It almost looks like it reverted back to the Youjiro gene. (Which was the original vine 2 years ago that I crossed to start the Yagurama strain of vines. Thanks for growing that one out and posting photos. Please continue to post more photos of ALL of them. Sometimes the new blooms will change as the vine ages. I am really curious to see what other blooms you get on the Shibori Purple x Gray Lady vine. :-)

Hi Koko - you made quite a garden out of our seeds - thanks again for sharing the pics.

1 - Regarding http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6759124 - Ipomoea nil "Gray Morning MistNOT" - It's very interesting to me to see what an open-pollinated seedling of this one would look like. If you ever get a seedling true to the parent I sent, be sure to include the NOT in the name (or better yet - something else entirely, perhaps like I. nil "emargined gray"). The seedling I grew out was a fascinating, happy accident, but not the true Gray Morning Mist, which would be wonderful to chase down.

2 - Regarding this one - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6759206 - I already commented here - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6756405

3 - Regarding this one - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6759244 - I am delighted to see how this one turned out - it looks like it's getting that *paint-brushed* look with respect to the rays and picotee. Since these are unnamed seedlings, I identify them by characteristics; but note that, unlike most of the other MGs here, these do not belong to the species Ipomoea nil. So, I would call this one Ipomoea youjiro "Blue Fuji, ray white", unless anyone has more ideas on the subject.

4 - Regarding this one - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6759246 - Both your #3 and #4 seedlings from my seeds are part of a third generation grow-out from EmmaGrace, that she labeled I. youjiro "Baby Blue and Pink". From your pictures, I can see that both #3 and #4 are coming out true to their parent for 2 years. I would guess that this one might be more typical of Emma's original parent. It's wonderful to see this, because I have especially loved these 2 seedlings.

----------------------------
Becky has also made it possible to follow different generations of her MGs, too, so your thread is all the more wonderful for contributing to that, as well.

If none of us named our vines, I don't see how we could do this.

---------------------------------
So much fun to see so many gardeners' seeds represented here - thanks again, Koko, for such a great thread.

Hi bluespiral

I like your name of Youjiro "Blue Fuji, ray white", so from now on I'm going to change the label and name it like that

I will keep you posted on how the future ones come out

(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Koko. Of the 2 seeds of I. albivenia I received from you, I tried to germinate just one - and now it's getting its true leaves! I am so excited by that one, for being another fragrant moonflower, but one more in miniature - it'll be perfect for the small garden out my back door.

Many thank you's

hi bluespiral

Be patient with the albivenia, mine has been in the pot for nearly a year and a half and it has grown almost nothing like 1 cm or so.. it's soooooo slow !

(Zone 7a)

Given the relative *rip/snorting* speed of Ipomoea alba's growth, there's definitely a place in the cosmos for the more contemplation-inducing Ipomoea albivenia.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I like my albivenia.. it is a sweet plant.. one bloom, 2 buds and still growing.. worth the wait ..
Koko, would love to send you something from my seed collection... you grow them well!

Oh Debra !

Fell free !!!! ha..ha..ha.. thanks for your offer I will do my best !

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Debra - Is the albivenia a tuber/rhizome perennial vine?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Becky, LOL i DUNNO I just planted a few seeds and now I have one... looks like it wants to be a caudex form

My Ipomoea albivenia plant is several years old now. It is perennial and makes a very nice caudex. The caudex root sticks up right out of the soil, almost as you see in Adenium obesum plants (Desert Rose). It sends new growth from various nodes on the root and also on old wood from previous years growth and it flowers from the new wood.

Debra, have you savored the fragrance of the albivenia flowers? Give them a big sniff right at sunset or when they open. They smell like Brugmansia flowers to me.

Joseph

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - Some very interesting information about I. albivenia. And that's very interesting that they have a similar fragrance as Brugs! Are they slow growing?

My plant takes a rest during the winter and I water the container very infrequently during this time. When it becomes an active grower, it will put out nice stout vines of pretty good length, then it tends to slow down when it begins to flower, if memory serves me correctly. It ought to be flowering or close to it when I return from my business trip.

The fragrance was so strong I could sense it maybe 10 feet away one evening. It was quite nice.

It has yet to make a single seed for me, even after actively hand pollinating many flowers last year. This year I started several more albivenia seeds and hope to get other plants to use for cross-pollinating to see if that will be the key to making albivenia seeds.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - As you probably already know, to get seeds from Brugs they have to be crossed. So maybe you are right in your hunch about fertilizing blooms from your I. albivenia. They may also have to be cross-pollinated. Good luck with that! Let us know what you discover when you do get them all blooming at one time. Do they grow fast from seed?
