Donna,
Hi!!! Just saw your costus barbados picture and it is beautiful!! Did you have it in the ground?? I didn't think it would bloom for us in the ground, if it was. The one Kay gave me is doing great, but no blooms yet. Waiting patiently!!
Janet

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Hi Janet. How are you sweetie?? No blooms on old wood. Keep it in a pot over winter. When ever you want to come raid the yard just let me know

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Donna, my Costus Spicatus looks just like yours. LOL Nice pictures. Do costus Barbados have fuzzy undersides of their leaves?
What hedychium is picture 3?

Hello, Janet. Haven't seen you in a long time. Hope your plants are doing well. You will have to come to Hattiesburg one day.

yes Barb it is fuzzy like velvet

I have no clue what the name of the ginger is. I can go put a piece of tape on the stem to mark it if you want a piece of it

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

donna, yes. Please mark.

Costus stenophyllus in a container, now that the bloom has matured more. This is why its called Snake Ginger by some

Hi Donna and Barb,
I am still around, mostly lurking, LOL. Mostly just growing what I have now, haven't been trading or going to plant sales. Everything is growing well. I may have to dig up my barbados and put it in a pot this fall. I so want to see blooms on it.
Donna, you are so sweet to share your plants like you do. You have always been so thoughtful and generous!! Thank you for the offer. I would love to come and see your place again, I am sure you have done so much with it since I saw it last. Maybe around Labor Day, we can get together and yes, I'd love to go to Hattiesburg. I have seen your pics, Barb, and your place looks beautiful!!
Janet

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Janet, you are welcome to come anytime. Unforturtantely, the drought has caused a lot of damage. Lost 4 or 5 large leland cypress along the fence, which were next to my neighbors magnolia. Even with watering gallons of water every day the magnolia sucked the earth dry. My gingers look horrible. ee have burned edges. The only thing that survied-WEEDS!! Hattiesburg has never had that type of heat for such an extended time. Come on anyway. We can talk plants and trade.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Barb the blooms were already off the orange ginger. If it doesn't bloom again I can always send a tuber to you when it does. Thing I have another one going to bloom in a week or less. I can see reddish orange in the tip of the buds

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

more new blooms today Curcuma variegated

Ok all you MS people, lol Don't leave me out. I have a yard full of plants that need to be divided! I just gave away tons of ginger and have plenty more to share. Donna, all that you gave me last year is doing well. Want some back? ;o) (just in case you don't remember me, I'm Daisy's Friend that came with the U-Haul!) Barbara, I still have more to give you. There are tons of things that I am just coming across. Janet and Kay are welcome to come as well. How about we do an old fasion plant swap? I have been spending time in the yard the last few days so some beds look really bare compared to the last time you were here Barbara. I send off about 20 bags of plants but not to worry it wasn't the best stuff, more of the common items. Anyway, Donna I still owe you so don't go buying gingers or ee's without checking with me. I have tons even The Curucma emerald pagoda and Curcuma h. Emerald Chocozebra. Barbara if you don't have these in the pots of different gingers I gave you let me know and I will get some together for you. Oh and Gothqueen, if you ever want to trade d-mail me and I will be happy to send you a full list of what gingers I have.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Pam, any you are going to give Donna, you can give to me. Kay and I are planning a trip to Donna's soon.
Barbara

Petal, MS

Donna not a problem! If you have a list of your gingers, I can fill in what I may have that you don't have. Anything else that you may want just let me know. lol I will drop off the plants to you Barbara. Oh and Donna If you have any to spare I would LOVE some more cuttings from your yard..LOL I was able to root most all that I got from you last time I even rooted the indigofera BUT DH knocked over my tray of those and I lost them all.. ;o(
Barbara, that cupea that you saw in my front bed that you were asking about the small one that I said would get big, well I got that cutting from Donna!
Donna, when ever you may feel up to you I would love to have you over.
Pam

Petal, MS

Gothqueen, My Scarlett Fever bloomed earlier this year too but I had to share it. This is the FIRST year that it has bloomed for me.. I was so surprised. I had decided that I would have to love it for the foliage alone. ;o) My Costus and Globba's are blooming for me now. I will have to go out tomorrow and get some pics for you all.
Pam

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Pam I can't travel anymore. I rarely leave the house, usually just for Dr appointments. You are welcome to come back and raid the yard anytime you like

Petal, MS

I'll have to make a date with you when it starts cooling off again..lol In the meantime LMK what you may like and I will send some with Barbara and bring some with me when I come see you!
Pam

Gainesville, FL

Pam, it took mine several years to bloom. I think its just a characteristic of that cultivar

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Scarlett Fever is a sun lover, if you want to see it bloom you want to give it three to four hours a day. I have seen it bloom with less but not reliably.

Petal, MS

I think my S. F. gets about 4-5 hours of sun. I have it facing east. Do you think it would do better if I gave it some west side sun?
Pam

Petal, MS

Looks like you all have amassed quite a collection of gingers since we last talked. My gingers have dwindled. I used to go to all the botanical gardens sales in New Orleans and Mobile, but haven't been to either since the storm. Really the only gingers I have replaced came from either Donna, Kay, and maybe Barbara when we had that get-together at Donna's house for gumbo. Anything I do have I'd love to share with any of you.
Donna, if you can ride, I'll do the driving!! I am off work the week of Labor Day.
