Becky's MGs Part 7

bostin birds Becky :-) ... i wonder if it's the Hawk that's making the doves nervous!... they use hawks here to scare pigeons into leaving the area...

that's good idea about the canes Moretz... i'm going to give it a go...

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

gosh, Colin, I hadn't thought of that.. you might have something there..

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

ok will do photos later, baby sitting right now maybe after lunch i can get out there and take pics, yes i thought it was a great idea because i was running out of room to put all the mg's that i had gotten from becky so that is what came to mind,if nothing happens and my sis can get her kids this after then i will try to post pics this evening

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Collin - Hmmmm ... I hadn't even thought of the Hawk attacking other birds. You may ... unfortunately for the doves ... be correct! It would be a bummer, but in reality ... it is the nature of all living things. Something must die, for something else to live. Sad, but true.

moretz - I hope you can get a photo to show me how you are using the bamboo sticks. My mind is just not comprehending what this is looking like. I am conceptually impaired. I need visual cues ... lol

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

my canes are already vined up.. I will take pics tommorrow.. just got some really tall ones from Tropicman, got those set out.. the branches from trees are really filling up.. hope I get to see some blooms in the am before I go to work..
George Straight is up and going..

Becky, my coral honeysuckle did not make it so will want to trade with you a cutting this fall..
I have white, gold, and my pink and john clayton..
As the monarda blooms fade and dry, cut them off and leave about 6 inches of stem and tie them up and bag them in a white paper bag heads in and stems out, lightly tie the bag closed with a rubber band and hang either in a dry location outside, or in the garage like I do, when they are all dry, the seeds will come out and be in the bottom of the bag if you shake it around a bit, or you can just plant the dead heads, chaf and all like I do.. hope this helps..

Mortez and Debra - Okay, are we talking about just sticking the bamboo poles into the ground straight up and down in the garden? For some reason I was thinking there was two ends and a pole somehow tied higher up going horizontal. Like an arbor or something. I understand the pole in the ground concept. I don't know why I was thinking it was created in the shape of an arbor ... sheesh!

Debra - Coral Honeysuckle I can cut for you! What are white, gold, pink, and John Clayton? Are those some sort of honeysuckle too? Sorry to be so dense ...

LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh! LOL I just looked up john clayton and it is a coral honey suckle.. no blooms yet, tho.. the vine was just a cutting when I planted it last fall.. it has grown all over the fence, but no blooms yet.

The caption on the hawk(?) photo is hilarious!

Joseph - ROTFLMBO!!!!! Leave it to YOU to bring your wonderful sense of humor to the forum! I laughed and laughed! Thank you for that!!

Debra - I am gonna have to check out your "Haves" for photos. I am still a newbie gardener after 5 short years, so I don't names or species of most plants. I've learned a lot in that short time, but there is still sooooooo much more to learn! :-) Thanks for clarifying the honeysuckles for me. I had no idea there were so many different cultivars. COOL!

Thanks, Becky, I am a bit of an imp sometimes with puns and captioning pictures...I am glad you enjoyed it. I am hooked on the LOL cats web site and I guess it has crept over into this web site now LOL (http://icanhascheezburger.com/2009/06/27/funny-pictures-the-dogs-expectations/).

Thanks for posting those photos, Moretz! I don't know why I read more into your original post. Looks great and a good idea!!

Some photos taken today...

This one is supposed to be a Kohkan bloom, but doesn't appear to be true. No variegated leaves. And the bloom literally looks sheer. It's pretty whatever it is. (It did come from a Kohkan seed pod.) It's a smaller bloom, too. Though that may be because it is growing in a pot instead of the ground.

This one was about dead. Seriously. No leaves and I was gonng dump it. I put it on the outdoor patio table thinking I would get to it later. Well ... later turned into a week. Suddenly I noticed leaf sprouts. And then another week went by and it HAD leaves! Like wow! It's still alive! Who would've known? Well, now it looks like this. Are Alamo Vines perennials? Maybe it was in it's dormant stage for a month? Or maybe it managed to survive my abuse and neglect? Either way, it is making a come-back! Love those kind of plants ...

I can thank Debra here for all these beautiful potatoe plants! Such awesome looking leaves!!! I have them all in styrofoam cups right now. Soon to be transplanted.

Close-up of the blooms from Keiryu. You can see where I have tagged some of the blooms. :-)

Diluted Fuji no Muraski is still kicking out a bloom or two per day. Pollen is scarce. But I keep trying to hand-pollinate these beauties. We need a new name for this vine. Something with the Muraski name in it.

Aogkiyama x Chocolate Silk cross. Though this bloom doesn't look much like either cultivar.

NOID daylily side view. I love these blooms! The true color of this one will not be known for 2 more years. It won't be yellow like it is now...

Last photo of a different cultivar of rain lily. This one is a darker pink. I love rain lilies. They do really well here in Florida. :-)

Love the photos, Becky, and the tiny froggie added to the beauty of the lily!

I don't know why, but none of my rain lilies seems to be blooming. I see their leaves. And we've had plenty of real rain!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

How old are your rain lilies? Mine didn't bloom that much last year as it was their second year in the ground. But this year the long narrow leaves are larger and they seem to be putting on a real show this year with one bloom flush after another. I have quite a few of them blooming under my Oak tree and they all seem to bloom at the same time. It's really pretty to see! I also water them with Bloom Booster once a month when I water all my garden beds with that fertilizer. It does jump start the flower production. :-)

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

last year was my first year having them and they bloomed last year, but I haven't seen any flowers this year, however, they have leaves.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

what is a rain lilly?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Debra - Check out this link: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1243/

Supposedly they don't produce seeds, but I beg to differ. I have seeds for the light pink ones, if you want some. I don't know how long it takes them to grow from seeds to bloom. Probably at least a year. It takes them a few years to get established and to bloom regularly. Of course, they may die in winter in your zone. They are more of a tropical plant. But I do have seeds if you wanna give them a try. LMK.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

those are so pretty.. but if they die in winter then they are not for me LOL I will just enjoy looking at all your and everyone elses' beauties.. thanks tho! I have decided to start on the basement nursery set up for winter on the 10t h of july.. It is going to be full of glorious glorys and tropical vines and tropical plants and brugmansias, and I am having one room to be my seed tray room with good lights and humidity..Now I am wishing I had kept it all down there :P it is alot cooler down there than it is up here.. this hibiscus wintered down there last winter
