beautiful flowers and combinations everyone!
highmtn - I put soaker hoses everywhere I can in my beds, I hand water the pots and I have pop-up sprinklers for the grass that gets additional water to some of my beds. I really don't think the overhead watering does a great job for me though, the soaker hoses on timers are so easy and they work well without alot of wasted water. It's just a matter of actually getting them into the beds lol!
By the way - I agree with you, it's better to cut your losses with a crooked contractor like that and move on but oh man it is SOOOOOOOOOO frustrating!!!
Irwells50 - my neighbor has alot of pots like you and her husband did the coolest thing. He connected a tubing to the underground sprinkler system and ran one tube to each pot. He set a timer and they're watered once or twice a day automatically. The tube is just a clear small line (like you'd see in a fish tank) so you can't even see it. Not sure exactly how he did it though.
I hate to admit that I have a doohickey that fits into the sprinkler head with a place for 6 or 8 hoses about the size of aquarium tubing, but the one time I used it years ago, the pieces fit so tightly I almost couldn't get the thing put together. I had them put two extra heads in for just that purpose, and have never really used it.
that's a neat idea, it sure would save me alot of watering time. It's funny, I find myself not wanting to go on vacation sometimes when I have alot of planters, I don't want to leave them! The last time I left I grouped them all together on the porch and set a timer on our regular little outdoor sprinkler to go on once a day, it worked well.
I usually have one of the college girls that works at the office come by and water them before she comes to work as part of her regular day, but not everyone can do that. I have in the past just moved them into the flowerbeds that get some shade and are watered by the sprinkler, but it's a real PIA, and I haven't done that in a while.
Next weekend Paul has to water them for 2 days while I'm taking a PMC workshop in Dallas, and I bet I come home to some thirsty plants.
Also, re: the little things that hook onto the sprinkler heads, unless they're on a separate station, they're not any good if you don't use the sprinkler every day, and I don't.
Makes sense!
Highmtn, thanks for sharing your pics and the story behind them. You've done a wonderful job of turning what started as a bad situation into such a beautiful garden- yours truly is a victory garden!
pgt, lovely arrangement of plants there!
Irwells, your patio and lot look lovely and peaceful.
Gemini..
Thanks...I like the victory garden comment. It came close to a "murder" garden at one point..lol
I used to use soaker hoses all the time in my veggie garden...but for some reason I got out of that habit. I have several in the garage.
Do you bury them under the ground or just under the soil aide or bark?
I don't like how overhead watering beats up the flower booms.
I bury my soaker hoses under just the mulch and hold them down with those pins shaped like an upside down U every so often
I wonder if there's a good way to get soaker hoses out to the beds that are far away from the house/water source?
