I miss the cursor hover feature

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Hi,

I've noticed this past week that a small feature I found quite handy is missing.

We used to be able to just hover the cursor over a member's name and a pop-up would show whether they were a member or a subscriber and their sign-up date.

Any chance of getting it back?

It's still there--have you changed browsers or anything in your computer settings lately? Otherwise you might try closing & reopening your browser, or rebooting your computer and see if that helps.

ecrane, you are such a credit to DG and I've thought so for a long time. Always ready to jump in and help. I did what you said, closing out the browser and revisiting this thread. Sure enough the little box popped up with the info, where it hadn't before. Kudos to you.

Glad that worked! It's amazing how many weird little computer things can be solved by closing & reopening or rebooting! LOL

Hi ecrane3 - Thanks for your response. I've been experiencing this for about a week or more, come to think of it, it was probably around the time I updated my browser to IE 8.

Is there something I can do to get it back?

I don't have IE 8 so I have no idea if there's a setting in there that you can change to get it back--if nobody here knows you might try posting in the Computer Talk forum and see if they have any ideas. Or you could always try Firefox instead, that may work better.

I haven't been a member very long, but HAVE noticed that ecrane is a very helpful and knowledgeable part of DG.

Gosh, I really would rather not have to switch browsers. I tried switching to Firefox along with the mad exodus, but it seemed clunky compared to IE and when IE 6 (or was it 7?) came out with the tabs, well, I just really like it and have used it since.

The last time I noticed the hover feature was missing (last year), Dave had been tweaking something, than he swooshed in brought it back almost instantly. I guess I was kinda hoping for the same situation....

Sure appreciate your thoughts, though, ecrane.

It's not working for me either. I use Safari and tried logging out and back in ... rebooting, and it still doesn't work ... get nothing when hovering over someone's username.

Hmmm...I have Safari too and it's working fine for me. What version do you have? Mine is version 4, just got it recently but had no trouble with the version before that either.

Wow, I didn't even know that was a feature until I read this thread!! Thanks guys!! BTW I am on Firefox--not sure what version but it recently updated--and it works great!!

Thanks again

I have been using Safari for a long, long time, and I'm not very computer literate so have no idea what version it is. My husband keeps telling me I should use Firefox ... maybe I will switch over and see if it works that way.

I just tried switching over to Firefox, and I see it does work in Firefox - but still no luck with IE8.

Lin--if you go to the menu item that says "Safari" and click on "about Safari" it'll show you what version you have.

Thanks ecrane!

I see I have an older version of Safari, 3.0.4 The cursor thing did work fine in the past, I just recently noticed it was no longer active.

I don't know which version of Safari I had before but the cursor feature has always worked for me so I don't know why you're having trouble with it. Are you letting the cursor hover for a few seconds? Sometimes it doesn't pop up instantly, it can take a few seconds. I didn't see anything in Safari's settings that looked like you could turn things like that on and off so I have no idea why it wouldn't be working for you anymore.

Geesh ... I'm getting sooo old! I wasn't letting the cursor hover long enough, it works!

OK, I finally figured it out. If anybody else reading has this problem with IE8, just click the Compatibility View button right next to the Refresh button at the top of the browser. (It says it's for websites designed for older browsers).

It's back, yay!

Thank You Sanannie! I had given up on ever getting that to work again and I had liked it so much. So glad that you were able to figure it out. Thanks again!
