This BCH just had to come by.
Hummingbird Adventures 12
Beautiful, Huggergirl! That's one we don't get in CA.
I managed to get a couple yesterday. Believe it or not, this is through the window screen. They love sitting on the Passiflora. See the lower branch? The perspective is funny, but just before I took this, there was another hummer sitting on the lower branch facing away from me and this guy was sitting up top yelling at him/her. It would have been such a great photo - I've never seen them do that before.
Hugger, you did a great job on your pictures. Congrats on the new camera. Love that Ruby-throated. Wish we had them here too.
Kaper, great shot through the window. I do that quite a bit and find that when the sun comes around to the feeders, the window helps the picture from being too bright.
SW, you did a great job too! Your little ones seem to enjoy that feeder.
One of my Anna's.
LOL - that's a great shot of the grumpy Duke!
Orioles are such a riot, huggergirl. At the moment, we have about three of what I call teenagers. They do nothing but make trouble. They fight on the feeder, make it slop over, then one of them hangs underneath to get the drips. And look out when I put the grape jelly out! It's like a three ring circus until dad comes around and chases them off - he wants some peace while he chows down.
Looks like a great place to visit! Aren't they happy little things to have around? :-)
KaperC,what kind of sugar water feeder do you use? I have tried 2 dif. oriole feeders ,and they always go to the humming bird feeders,so i took off 2 bee guards, then I made a jelly feeder, hung it on the oposit hook, robins and cat birds ate at it first then the orioles, now they dont even bother with the sugar water now !! Its great to have a hummer and an oriole at the same time ,Iam working on a good shot, wish we had more than 1 type of hummer, lucky you.Tamara. OOOPPS Thats not a hummer !!!! he has a sweet tooth !!!
Tamara, here's a pic of my oriole/hummer feeder - they both use it. The jelly goes into 'dimples' set into the top between the feeding ports. I would love to find another one just like it, but haven't yet.
It hangs on the corner of the plant hanger (like a kitchen pot rack) where my epiphyllums live. The young Os have now taken to landing on the epi branches, bouncing while they are waiting a turn at the feeder. The hummers can perch there easily, but I'm afraid the heavier birds will take their toll on the plants, so I might have to move it. I'm hoping not, though, because I get a close look at them through the day through our living room window. They'll only be around for a couple of months longer.

Great photos! I'm back online. Fios seems to be working so far. WHOOPEE!
huggergirl, so glad that you shared your photos with us. A real treat for us, as we don't often get to see hummers like yours.
I don't know how KC, keeps her windows as clean as she does, but she does get some good photos. Mine are covered with dust again. Sigh. : (
duc, is that Dot in the first photo of your sweet little Anna? Is Duke sticking out his tongue at us? He was probably grumpy about that other guy taking over his favorite perch. LOL!
ima, I'm so thrilled for you! It's hard enough to get a decent photo, which is why we call it taking pictures of speeding bullets! Sometimes I don't have my camera in hand and I just watch in awe as the hummers live out their ballet. The spats, swordfights, cussing Me out. Oh the other day Zoom was mad at me, flew up in my face, well within 3 feet, and told me off. Okay! I was so shocked I wasn't even thinking about trying to get a photo. Not until he'd backed off. Probably would have been a good one too.
I have a bunch of photos to share from the last few days. But also have chores to do right now.
First, let me get a new thread started.
Here is where we are going: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1007225/
My first visitor to the feeder on the 22nd. I think Zippy was in there flying around. This BCH didn't come in until after I removed the spider web that a spider had built overnight in front of the door. I'll post photos on a separate thread. It was an interesting day in the natural world.
To be continued on the next page of this thread.
Thanks to all who have participated by posting their photos, sharing their stories, or even just lurking. You make it all happen.
