What a hail storm...I think I am going to cry

Delaware, OH

if they are damaged, you probably have no choice. if not they may collapse after wether gets ot and there is a lot of vine to support.
take the half and half approach and do the most damaged, unless you think there is truly no damage. but your description sounded like damaged vines......it is a bummer but mother nature wants to bloom to propagate, it is a plants only goal so it will all come around and be perfect.

(Zone 4a)

Well I did go out and prune 4 of them - some vines right to the ground...I noticed one was frayed almost at the earth line. The rest of the 4 I cut down to less than I foot.....the rest of the clematis in other areas weren't as bad - I left those....we shall see....

Thanks for the help!

you won't regret this from the damage you report. they will be back to where they were within 2 weeks with a stronger will to bloom.

really weird to have that storm in june with the ice build up, but as we all know, better than a hurricane or tornado.

mother nature has it all going on , clems are up to it tho.

good luck dawn, keep us posted and let me know if you go on garden buddies.

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

sorry bout your clemmies Dawn. I agree with everyone else... Cut them back, they will be ok.

Thanks for the nice words everyone. That storm was scary & we are still cleaning up messes. This whole area looked like a war zone, but sadly - mine was the worst. I have been moving plants like a wild person, just trying to save what I can. Most what I had out front had to be moved because of all the sun I get now. Those hostas are sure to fry if I were to leave them. I know alot of people have them in sun up north, but not down here. It's BLAZING here in the summer. Was 99º today with heat index of 104º. HOT!!! It will be much hotter as we get closer to August.

We are still waiting on the fence people & roof has been fixed. All is well at this point. We are just wokring day by day to get things back in order.
It will never be the same though with my big ol Maple tree gone. :( Sure do miss that shade already!!!

Here is what else the storm sent us. Poor thing must not have had anywhere to go except for my open carport. It found comfort in all the junk we have in there.
Of course I had to feed it, little thing is tiny. Love those blue eyes!!

That is a lot of work. It is heartbreaking to lose an established tree. Glad you have things under control. How many plants did you have to move? I wonder what you will end up calling the cat?

What a wonderful (and cute) blessing after such an ordeal! My husband was in the Murfreesboro tornado earlier this spring at a horse show....his stories were incredible....God Bless you and your family as you continue to recover. I see He already has blessed the kitty with a wonderful home (and garden) to play in like yours !!!
