JLD_II wrote: Thanks for the compliments on my pics. I too am very amazed at how they turned out, this was the 1st time I used them. The camera is a Sony Mavica CD-300, nothing really fancy or outragious. I bought it 2nd hand on Ebay for about 260$. This camera has macro settings but this option is only good for flower close ups. Anything closer than that is all blur. Then I bought a lens adaptor tube that allows me to fit 52mm filters and lenses. It's the poor mans means of trying to get hi$ camera results. Then I bought a package of several filters/lenses that just screw on the end. These are the very cheap filters too, all no name brand that came from a company in India. I used 2 lenses screwed together to get this kind of close up. The 1st 1 is merely called "Macro Lens" then to get in closer I added another filter named "Close-up +4". When I stacked the 2 together, that is what enabled the extreme close up on the bug. I was just as shocked and amazed with the results as you guys. These close-up filters come in many "powers" from +2 to +10 and they can stacked on top of each other to further multiply the close up power. I can't wait to play with all the other filters that came in this kit and see what else I can do. The bug in the pictures above is about twice the size of a red spider mite. Here is a picture of what the 2 "filters" or "lens adaptors" look like that I used for the close ups. The company I bought them from is still offering the package deal that includes these 2 filters plus about 28 others that vary from colored filters to trick photography "multi image" filters. I don't think DG allows me to post links promoting a company for products like this. If your interested, go to ebay and do a search for "lens filters" and you'll find 1 comapny offering a package of roughly 30 some filters for about 50$. When I bought mine, they were at 40$!!! I may never use all of them but I'm finding more uses everyday. Back to my pest problem. The picture of the leaves showed that distorted leaf curl I've been seeing a lot of lately but I can't decide what pest does that damage. I know its not the bug I posted but I had to try and ID it while I was doing this. I'll try to take more pictures today. Thanks for all your help friends;) Jeff |
