Comments regarding Burnt Ridge Nursery

I ordered a Northern Pecan tree (bareroot) from them. The tree arrived in seemingly good shape. However, I noticed there was very few small roots, only one large taproot. After planting according to directions, nothing happened. The tree never leafed out. I called them for a refund and the person I talked to was negative. She promised the manager would call back but it never happened. I would not deal again with a company that does not stand behind their products or their promises.

Overall, I had a positive experience with Burnt Ridge, but there were a few minor issues that were not exactly positive (but not exactly negative, either.) One small issue was the late shipment - not quite too late, but almost a month later than every other place I ordered from this year. It wasn't a problem for me, but for someone with a schedule it might have been.

There was also the matter of some confusing emails about my order - first, they emailed to say an asian pear I ordered wasn't available; that was fine with me, and thanks to the email I wasn't surprised when it wasn't shipped. No problem so far. But then I noticed a note on the receipt they emailed that said the 2 Auraucaria trees I ordered were not available, and just a day ago I got another email about a persimmon I ordered that wouldn't be available. Well, I got my plants today and oddly enough, although there was no asian pear (like I said, not a problem), there were two Auraucarias and the persimmon. I don't consider this negative, since I got the trees after all - just confusing. I have to admit, I'd rather be told the plants are unavailable and then get them anyway than be told they're available and never get them!

Now the positives: I was really impressed by the way Burnt Ridge tried to keep me appraised of my order status, even if the info turned out to be only partially correct. At least they erred on the side of caution, unlike many other places that don't notify about unavailability until you get the box and read the invoice. The plants themselves are big and healthy, comparable to Raintree's, but definitely cheaper. They even have some relatively unusual varieties I couldn't find anywhere else.

Even though they ship relatively late and tend to be cautious about availability, I would recommend Burnt Ridge and plan to order more next year...overall a very good experience and great plants and prices.

This was my first order with Burnt Ridge. I ordered a seedless green grape vine.

Funny thing was, I meant to order two vines, so when I realized my mistake I figured I'd go to my local large home store chain and just buy the second one there. The home store chain's vine was an okay size. Then I received the vine from Burnt Ridge--what a difference!! This vine was HUGE!!! It made the other vine look like a sprout. It was packaged very well, too, and came already tied around a bamboo stake.

I can't wait to pick and eat those grapes! I would order from them again.

I've had trouble in the past ordering Butternut trees (being as how they have a large taproot) I've ordered from three other places and they all died. I was getting desperate so when I found them online I call to be sure. I told him of my butternut woesHe assured me that they were grown in the ground on their farm and dug when ordered and shipped in bags so as to preserve as much taproot as possible. He promised to get me a lot of taproot and boy did he. They arrived about 3 weeks ago (after the fear of freeze was over) and the taproot was in a bag 6 FOOT LONG. I'm pretty sure I have enough taproot this time. These are the best looking trees I've ever gotten.

On a whim I also ordered several raspberries and those looked fantastic as well.

I am very optimistic and will update again later in the year.

I ordered two apple trees on EMLA 26 rootstock (Winter Banana and William's Pride) for spring 2006, and the trees that showed up were well-packaged, nice, healthy trees and of the right size for first year pruning and scaffold training (I have no need for big honking fruit trees you see in garden centers). The trees were quite vigorous and put on quite a bit of growth this past summer.

I recently ordered a plum tree for the 2007 season, we'll see how it looks when it arrives.

I have ordered from Burnt Ridge Nursery twice. They have been great to deal with, especially since after I placed my order, my husband decided to cancel the credit card I had used, and I had to contact them to change billing info. They were friendly and helpful, and responded quickly to my problem. My order of 2 Rubel blueberries arrived on time, and in great condition. I had to wait a couple of weeks to plant outdoors due to a late spring storm, and the blueberries never even noticed. They took off and are doing great! I'll definitely order from them again.

I ordered one BIG LEAF MAPLE (Acer macrophyllum); the tree was in exceptional condition: I'm hoping the gigantic leaves will shrowd me from my neighbors-ha! ha! I am awaiting a new order( KIMMILIE BIG LEAF MAPLE (Acer macrophyllum) and (SEATTLE SENTINEL BIG LEAF MAPLE (Acer macrophyllum): I am sure the trees shall be glorious.

Postscript-They ship trees fast.

Ordered 5 kiwi vines, 1 male, 2 Ken's Red, and 2 Assaii. Prices were excellent. Shipped within 2 days. Vines arrived just breaking bud and in awesome condition in the first week of June in 90 degree weather.
I would definitely order from Burnt Ridge Nursery again. They were also one of the very few nurseries that had kiwi vines in stock at this time of the year.

Good looking blueberry plants at great prices. Shipping prices are extremely fair compared to other companies. You can now order online which is a plus, too. The only problem I had was that I did not get five items ordered and three were substituted for smaller size. This is fine as I am ordering toward the end of the year--I would just like to be in the loop so I can get from other sources. Hopefully this will improve as they get used to this new technology. I would definitely order from them again, however.

The plants and trees are priced very, very competitively. Michael, the owner, is always willing to discuss planting and pruning strategies and will answer questions patiently and thoroughly.

I found BRN's inventory to be very complete, and the plants I've received from them have been great! Customer service is typically handled by a friendly and helpful lady named Ruth.

BRN is my favorite nursery for great pricing of a wide variety of unusual, edible trees, shrubs and other plants. I highly recommend them!

I recently ordered two apple trees, a cherry tree, a bundle of red raspberries, a Gooseberry bush, a Current bush, and some Elderberries. All arrived well packaged and in excellent condition. Trees were a good 4' tall. Everything is healthy and are doing great. Will most certainly be odering from them again. You get MORE than you pay for at Burnt Ridge Nursery, which is really nice for a change.

Very good experience. Apple Trees are healthy and large with fresh, good roots. Ordered online, communicated by e-mail. They were sold out of some trees, we arranged substitutes easily. I got the root stock I wanted. Delivered at good planting time for zone 6a.

I have ordered from Burnt Ridge for the past three years, and have always been impressed with the quality of their plants and their timely shipping. The last order I received from them was shipped out on April 11 in the afternoon, and I received it on April 12, and I live one state away! I will definitely be ordering from them in the future.

i like this company i recived my plants,in good time,and well packed.everything was alive with a good root system. so far all of my plants are doing well and budding out. i orderd a total of 23 trees (in two orders)they all came to me in about a day.i recived email when they were going to send them.i have not order to many plants through the internet and im glad one of my first experiance was so good i will definetly order from them again.

I found Burnt Ridge through the California Rare Fruit Growers Association website. http://www.crfg.org I actually placed 2 orders with this company, about two weeks apart. When I received my first order, all plants seemed healthy and in good shape (they are bareroot, so you're never out of the woods til they all leaf out) In my second order one of my loquat trees was dead. I contacted them with a picture, they apologized and replaced the plant immediatley. Their selection is incredible, their plant and shipping prices are good, and I was very satisfied with their customer service. They emailed me when they received my order, filled my order, charged my credit card, and shipped my order. A+ in my book. Can't wait till next year to order more.

I have placed several orders with Burnt Ridge Nursery in recent years. I am a hobby gardener, and most of my 120 (plus or minus) kinds of woody fruit and nut plants came from that location. I have lost a few plants -- due to my neglect and inexperience. All trees, shrubs, and brambles arrived in Tennessee via UPS in healthy condition. Afterwards, TLC was my responsibility. I have tried to save money by buying "cheap" plants from some other suppliers, and I got just what I paid for!! I began making my 2006 wish list from the Burnt Ridge catalog today. Obviously I am well pleased with the service, products, and very reasonable prices I have received from Burnt Ridge. HAPPY GARDENING

2 years ago I went to Burnt Ridge Nursery in person to purchase bare root plants. Their prices are very reasonable. The blueberry bushes, the fig tree and the cherry tree looked good and are growing well.The apple trees were single trunks, no side branching (possibly younger and therefore cheaper?) but the price was good and they had the varieties I wanted. My complaint is with the raspberry bushes. I bought 5 each of 2 varieties. Of the 10 plants, 4 did not grow (DOA) and one turned out to be a cottonwood tree. The other 5 grew very well and have been since supplying me with tons of berries. I also purchased raspberries from another nursery that year and all grew exceptionally well, so the problem was definitely not my care of the plants. When I looked at the invoice to try to do something about it, I could only find one raspberry selection on the list, so I guess they made an error and undercharged me. It was equal to the value of the plants that were non living at the time of purchase, so I decided to let it go. However, I had 5 empty spots in my raspberry row that first year and by then it was too late to get more bare roots. I would buy from them again since their prices are good and their shipping is also reasonable. They do have a great selection and an informative catalog.

First, I called them in September to confer with the owner on the trees that I wanted to order. He assured me that I could have everything that I wanted. So, I sent them a completed order form with a check. I indicated, on the order form, that I wished to have the trees sent by USPS because the UPS and the Fedex do not deliver to me. It seems that they do not like to come down the dirt road to my farm. Anything that is sent by either UPS or Fedex has to be picked up at their depot; a 110 mile round trip.
I received a notice from Burnt Ridge Nursery that they did not normally do business with the post office and that my postage would have to be about double the cost of shipping by UPS. I agreed.
Then, in November, I received a notice from them that one of the trees that I had ordered, they did not carry and that they had a "similar" substitute. I agreed.
In, December I received a notice that they did not have one another of the trees that I had ordered. I asked for a refund for that tree.
Now, it is January and time to begin shipping my trees. Well, guess what? Today, I received a notice that they did not have another of the trees that I ordered. The notice stated that, if I did not contact them within one week, they would ship a substitute. The notice was more than one week old, by the time that I received it.
I called immediately and checked to see if they had shipped to me yet. They had not. I cancelled my entire order and asked for a refund. I hope that they send it.
Needless to say, I will never do business with them again.
The reason that I ordered from them in the beginning can best be explained by the fact that I really have had good results with stock from Dave Wilson Wholesale Nursery. Well, the Burnt Ridge Nursery advertises that it carries Dave Wilson nursery stock. So, I was tempted to order from them.

I received very nice plants from Burnt Ridge this spring. I got 4 honeyberries and a cornelian cherry. All the plants have leafed out and are growing nicely. I will place another order from them next year if I can find more room in my yard.

Just recieved my seedling chestnut trees.They are in nice shape and are leafing out well. I really like the numerous varieties of plants they offer at good prices.

The Kotata blackberries I ordered are outstanding -- strong canes with many buds and great roots. The rest of the order looks good, too. Will certainly order again from this nursery. Online ordering would be nice, but I'll use snail mail or fax gladly to get uncommon varieties for such a good price.

I've ordered twice from this company and have received great plants and service.The owner is very knowledgeable and eager to help.The plants are larger,have better roots,and are healthier looking than most mail order companies I've dealt with.

Last spring (04) I ordered three trees from Burnt Ridge (Rainier and Lapins cherries, and Enterprise apple). All three were well packed and arrived quickly. The root systems were outstanding, and all the trees were judiciously pruned. I was particularly impressed with the branching of the Enterprise (which incidentally is one heck of an apple cultivar--disease resistant, delicious, and a great keeper--every apple orchard should have one). All three trees grew very well their first year (Lapins especially). I was going to wait for new growth this spring before posting this, but even this early it is clear that the trees have survived the minus-ten-degree winter well. The only damage was a small amount of die-back on the Rainier, but I planned to prune it down a few inches anyway. I could not be more pleased with this nursery, which has the best stock and best service I've encountered yet--and excellent prices too.

This was my first order with Burnt Ridge. I ordered 2 currants, 2 serviceberries, and raspberries. The plants were a very nice size ( surprising actually ) and in good shape. Their prices are wonderful for the size of the plant. I know I will order from this company again.

Purchased blueberry and raspberry from Burnt Ridge. Everything I ordered was healthy, promptly shipped and arrived in great shape. I am buying more from these helpful, nice folks.

I received three lovely, large, healthy fig trees and three beautiful blueberry bushes in bloom from Burnt Ridge. Shipping was less expensive than similar nurseries and very fast. Packaging was excellent.

Even though I'd heard/read nothing but GREAT things about Burnt Ridge, I thought I'd place a small 'test' order first to check them out myself. VERY PLEASED with order!!!!!! Received it in record time, both plants (fig trees) were healthy, well-wrapped and packaged in such a way that ensured their safe arrival. Both figs were larger than I expected, well rooted and showing no signs of shock. I appreciated the fact that they were tagged with a reminder to 'harden' them off first before exposing to the great outdoors and that a care/planting sheet was also enclosed.
I am so pleased that I am mailing off another order tomorrow.

I placed a big order with Burnt Ridge (lots of berries, filberts, vine maple, douglas firs). The plants were in general very large and healthy looking. The raspberries were huge. Some of the blueberries and blackberries actually had more than one plant which we were able to divide and all of which have started growing.

My only compaint is that some of the plants listed were out of stock and that they don't have online ordering. Everything I received was of excellent quality and their prices can't be beat.

It's my first time ordering from Burnt Ridge and I am very pleased with their product and service! I ordered an oriental persimmon, native persimmon, and chinese chestnuts. All are very nice-sized.....over 3-4 ft tall with strong stems. People are very helpful. They answered my e-mails within a couple days. Plants arrived within a week after I placed the order.

Definately a good place to get your plants. Their selection and price is very good too.

I have purchased mail order plants and trees for over 20 years from other companies. Havening been burnt several times I was leary of trying again. Was I ever glad I did!

The items from this nursery are the best quality I've ever seen. The trees are well branched and very large. They are strong stock and well rooted plants. They are the best buy for the money you can get.

After a very negative experience with the Plantron Companies, I placed an order with Burnt Ridge. Numerous times I consulted with plant specialist Mike, who advised me of the best varieties of fruit trees for my area. Ruth, the nursery rep was always courteous, pleasant, and helpful. When she didn't have an answer, she put me in contact with someone who did. During the course of three months, I changed my order at least twice, and when the order arrived, all the items sent were the correct ones.The stock was well packed and in superb shape: large trees,developed root systems,easily identified,first class stock.My credit card was processed only when order was shipped.Burnt Ridge's prices are very reasonable and the shipping costs weren't outrageous, as with many companies. This is a company I will come back to, as they have good service and good products and treat their customers right!!

I placed my first order from Burnt Ridge Nursery this spring. Before placing my order, I e-mailed lots of questions about what plants would do well in my area and what size of plants were shipped. My e-mails were always answered quickly and with lots of information and specific descriptions.

When my shipment arrived, everything was great! Big, healthy and exactly as described, except for one jujube tree. I called them about the jujube tree and they promptly sent a replacement. The replacement tree arrived large and healthy.

Awesome company! Great staff with good information. This year I ordered a Lapins cherry tree, boysenberry, and Issai kiwi which all came with good strong root systems and the packing was top notch. They also have very affordable pricing and don't hike up their shipping charges. I would definitely do business again with them.

The company specializes in common and unusual plants with edible products. I love their varieties. They shipped on time, communicated responsively via e-mail, and replaced non-viable plants. The plants I received are healthy, good sized and at least 20% cheaper than other mail order outfits.
