Comments regarding DollarSeed (Dollar Seed)

This is the 3rd year I have ordered seeds from DollarSeed. I am always very pleased with the quality and price of the seeds. I love heirloom seeds and the packages give the number of seeds and the germination rates which are spot on. I do my ordering in January and start the seeds in our grow room at the end of March or beginning of April depending on how busy we are.

I placed my first ever order with DS in February (2025). I loved the prices. Do they have the newest, sexy hybrid varieties? No. Do they have tried & true basics? Yes. I would rather pay $1 for a pack of leaf lettuce from DS than $4-5 at one of the big seed companies.

It did take about 2 weeks from ordering to delivery to get the seeds, but most of that was due to the USPS, not DS.

I will be buying from them again.

Dollarseed is a complete joke. I read the positive reviews instead of the negative reviews, and placed an order. Silly me.

I have many issues with David Moffitt, the owner.

My biggest issue is that he advertises his orders ship faster than anywhere else.. He claims they ship within 24 hours, or 3-5 day during peak season. If you read through these reviews, you will clearly see many people never receive their order at all. And they CERTAINLY don’t get any communication from him. The same rang true for me.

I placed an order this past spring. I obviously wanted to use the seeds this year.. not next year…. I followed up with him a week later when the order was still stuck in order received status. i should have received the order, or at the very least a shipping confirmation…. Nope, nothing.

I finally issued a chargeback after a month with no order or response to my attempts at communication. What do you know? Once I initiate the chargeback he decides to ship my order. Now that it’s too late for me to use the seeds…. I’m furious. And he still hasn’t acknowledged my emails. I have no use for these seeds, as I had to place another order somewhere else. This cost me weeks of precious seed starting time. I’m totally behind for the year because I fell for his lies and false advertisement.

In response to another review, he’s complaining people are upset for not getting their orders.. claims people expect him to be like Walmart. PEOPLE JUST EXPECT YOU TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH WHAT YOU SAY YOU’RE GOING TO DO! I can’t believe he’s complaining about this. The nerve…!! The more I’m finding out about him…. I’m so mad I ever gave him my money. Bottom of the barrel crook! BY THE WAY, his YouTube and homestead name is Halfass Homestead. You got that right! He lives by the name… he’s proud of it! Amazing!

I ordered seeds around a busy time (mid-March) and realized that the company was far behind fulfilling orders (2+ weeks; they did not communicate this, I had to find out on Facebook). After my order was received but before it was processed, I sent an email to the company asking them to cancel my order due to the large delays. They did not reply and sent me my order anyway a month later with the charge going through.

Ordered from them, but never received anything after weeks. They failed to respond to multiple emails to the customer support email listed on their website and I was forced to issue a chargeback to be refunded. This is atypical for even the smallest of businesses.

I'm seeing now the owner is active here, so some actionable, specific, and kind feedback for you - Communication is key. If there are delays, let customers know immediately via the email they have provided; customers won't always follow your Twitter or Facebook accounts for updates. Also, the website has to be up-to-date. If customers need to send an email to something other than what's listed on the site, admin@dollarseed.com, update the site. If you know there will be shipping delays, update the site. Even now, the FAQ still says to expect orders to be shipped within 3-5 days at the worst, and that is clearly not true.

I can’t say enough grrrreat things about this company. I found them on Dave’s Garden a few years back when they were listed in the top 30 and I’ve ordered ever since. In my book, they are tops for germination, price and customer service. I recommend Dollar Seed to every one of my friends and they too love them. They also send a really cool pen with orders. I placed an order on Jan 25 but never received it. The scam company does not respond to emails, so I filed a chargeback dispute with my bank. DO NOT BUY FROM dollarseed.com.

I started with them in 2020. Received 10 fine orders. Last March 2024 I placed another order and never received it. I emailed 4 times with no reply. I see the website is still up, so I guess they are still sucking people in.

I did a lot of research. I recently moved back home to help care for my Mom as she undergoes chemo. We ran a market garden here for years until my parents retired and I found myself back here facing dozens of garden beds to dig weeds out of and fill once again. The problem was, since I left my job to come home, money is a big concern. And so I found Dollarseed. And they did not disappoint. I ordered 19 packets of frost tolerant veggies on Tuesday and here I am on Saturday with my bags full of seeds! Everything is very neat, the seeds are clean and unmarred, they even sent some oakleaf lettuce as a gift. Can't wait to drop them in with the lettuce mix I ordered. This is Texas and lettuce is a winter crop most years!
So I am glad to recommend Dollarseed.
This is not a complaint but be aware the "order tracking" on their website is either not working or lags greatly because these showed up and the link on the site never went beyond processing,.

I did a lot of research for good seeds with reasonable prices and came across Dollar Seeds. They processed and shipped on time. The list came hand checked with red pen and a signed 'thank you'. That's so sweet and gives the whole shopping experience a personal touch.

Thank you Dollar Seeds. You'll be happy to know, these were purchased for a trip to Ghana and they arrived on time. I will let you know in a later review how they fared with the climate here.

My only complaint will be a mix-up of one item: I received Cabbage Golden Acre instead of Red Acre. It could be a typo or oversight but generally 1 out of 37 orders, you're pardoned.

DollarSeed is a great service. Ordered once and received my seeds in a timely manner. There's something very charming about getting your order checked off in pen with a hand written signed "Thank You" at the end. *And* they sent me a free pack of lettuce seed with my order. I *love* getting surprise free stuff! A few notes that make it different from other services: 1. They pack in transparent plastic press-close bags with a sticker label on the front - not paper packets. 2. For some seeds you're going to get the exact "Approx" amount. Like for my Victoria Rhubarb it says "Approx 15 seeds". There are exactly 15 in there. Same thing with Sunflower Dwarf Sunspot "Approx 17 seeds" - exactly 17 seeds. So expect the approx amounts. I'm not complaining - I'm impressed by the approximation. The Ace 55 Tomato pack I got claims approx. 91 seeds. For comparison MIGardener's $3.95 "Homestead Collection" Ace 55 pack has approx 50 seeds. So you're getting almost *twice* the seeds at almost a *quarter* of the cost! Amazing. If there *is* anything to complain about it's the near microscopic pictures on their website - they're often less than 200pixels in both dimensions - but if this is intentional to save on bandwidth and pass the savings onto the consumer I appreciate it...but really what are we talking about here? An 8kb picture vs a 57kb picture on bigger sites? Overall I'm *very* happy with DollarSeed! I will be ordering from here again.

So happy I found Dollar Seed!! This was an easy experience and I love the clear baggies with the labels, I have even switched my other seeds to the same process! My order came quickly and all seeds I have started or direct seeded have already germinated! BEST FIND EVER. Thank you so much for providing this service. I can't believe I found such a great company. I give these seeds as gifts to my in-laws, parents, friends, and anyone who asks. I love how simple it is. I have never been "accidentally" subscribed to a mail list. They have a great selection, and every year, they add more every year. The shipping is always lightning-fast, proper number of notifications, tidy, simple, and just perfect. No surprise fees, ever. Just heirloom seeds from their hippie garden near home (I love Cortland and miss it). I get great germination with their seeds. They've always been fresh in my experience, and the pack year is always given on the packet. You never get seed packets from the back of a pantry. Just fresh, high-quality, heirloom seeds. I will be buying from Dollar Seeds again and again and again.

I did a lot of research to try to find seeds at a reasonable price and came across Dollar Seed. The reviews were mixed but I decided to order anyway. I am extremely pleased with the transaction. I was notified when the seeds shipped and came in a timely manner. The receipt inside had a nice hand written thank you, which went a long way with me. I also received a complimentary seed pack of Oakleaf Lettuce with a generous amount of seeds in it. I look forward to planting these and would recommend Dollar Seed.

Did a lot of research and searching to find a Seed Company that had decent reviews and reasonable prices for seeds. All the Major seed companies are Way, way out there as far as reviews and prices. I made a purchase from Dollar Seed on Jan 1 and again on Jan 7. Both orders were filled in a very timely and accurate. The price of seeds are hard to beat. Looking forward to starting seeds Feb1, in a small greenhouse in the garage with lighting and heat mats. Back to Dollar Seed, they will forever be my go to seed company if I get their seeds to grow. Can't imagine why they won't grow, unless I broke my green thumb. Anyway in each package received, there's a nice signed handwritten Thank you. Also, a Dollar Seed pen was included with each order, but most importantly, a package of complimentary seeds, not ordered were included. Nice touches. I wasn't going to plant lettuce, but the complimentary oakleaf lettuce seeds motivated me, and I ordered iceberg lettuce seeds on my second order. Overall, A great experience from ordering to receipt. I'll be back! Thank you for a great fulfillment experience.

Dollarseed did not mail my order. After I sent numerous emails inquiring about my order, the company eventually responded by blaming the post offfice. I asked to have the seeds resent and to bill appropriately, however, they have ignored this request and continues to ignore emails. I suspect that the company is out of business.

I am 100% a believer in promoting small business. For this reason when I saw the several bad reviews for this company I was interested in finding out for myself. Also for $1 per pack how much could I lose. I ordered 10 packs of seeds and with shipping order came to less than $15. I received informational emails from the company at every stage of the sale, from order confirmation to delivery date. I planted some of all but one package, that I have wait till spring. All packs germinated at above 90% rate and all are doing fine. I believe that the negative reviews must either be from operator error, yours not theirs or most likely as they say in their info from false sites on the internet stealing their name. Make sure if you order that you have the correct Dollar Seed, not a phony, just follow the link from this website.. I just ordered a full order for my Florida winter garden.

Honestly for the most part my order experience wasn’t bad. Let’s face it not all seeds will necessarily germinate. That can always be user error rather than the seller so for those having issues perhaps looking into the way you germinate rather then going straight to a bad review. No one can guarantee germination. Once out of their hands the germination process is on you the buyer. Honestly the packaging isn’t bad. I honestly feel they care, just a bit overwhelmed. Unfortunately the only negative thing I have to say is they do lack badly in customer service. I have tried multiple methods of contact and multiple attempts and have not received anything back. Again I get they are busy, but you don’t want to lack in customer service. I am more than willing to return what I received that was incorrect for then correct item that I actually ordered. But my issue is even after multiple attempts via email from the website, messenger, and on their business page, I have not received anything. That is my only negative review. It’s only 1.00 I get it however it is nice to get what we actually order. I’m honestly not too upset as human error happens I would hope they just contact us back to correct it. To some nowadays 1.00 is a lot. Other then the lacking in customer service I would rate them pretty good :)

I'm hoping this page is the same as dollar seed. I placed an order in mid-July but still haven't received it. I tried emailing several times, and I haven't received an answer. I have no other way to contact the company, but if I don't receive my order or a response, I will have to contact my bank to get the money back.

Unfortunately I had a VERY BAD experience with them. As you can see from my emails below, I placed my order on 7/15/22 and it hasn't shipped as of 8/2/22 with no responses to multiple emails. I have filed a fraud dispute with my credit card company

This website is amazing. The selection is more than I was expecting, and I am so happy that I finally found affordable seeds. I have been looking high and low, dozens and dozens of places, and finally I ran across Dollar Seeds. I'm not sure why they weren't at the top of the list to begin with! I am always for a good deal, but this was beyond that. My experience has been great so far. I ordered 25 different seed varieties. $1 each. Shipping was $5. That's $30 for 25 generous bags of seeds. I had to get specific varieties of things, as I live in Zone 9b in Phoenix, so I can't grow just anything here. Dollar Seeds did not disappoint. Though more seed varieties in the future could never hurt anyone! : ) The more the merrier in my opinion. But They had a great selection to begin with. I'm so happy I found this place.

The seeds arrived much sooner than I anticipated, literally just a few days after placing the order. Amazon is slower than that lately. Lol. The seeds came securely packed in a white bubble mailer, and all of the packets came in clear ziploc baggies with a very useful label. No frills, just facts. Super easy to see what I have, how much, etc. I love it. Each packet contains a very generous amount of seeds for the price(which is stated on the label), plus they even included a complimentary packet of Oakleaf lettuce seeds for free, a business card magnet, and a pen. Not only do I love cheap stuff, I also love bonus freebies. This all speaks volumes of the owners and how they do business. My included invoice showed everything I ordered, checked off by hand, and signed with a thank you note at the bottom. I cannot ask for better customer service than this. All of my needs were met, and then some. No mistakes, no substitutes, and all seeds are in fantastic shape. I am going to start the germination process this weekend. Can't wait. Thank you for such a refreshing experience!

I am very, very impressed. This is the quickest I have received any seeds I've ever ordered online. Everyone near us was out of cauliflower seeds. I happened to see this link on a video ad, can't remember where, but decided to see if they had any. They had those and quite a big selection, including flower seeds for my bees. I'll definitely be back for more.

To be honest, I had my doubts buying seeds so cheap, but I can't condemn something I haven't tried, and I am sure glad I gave DollarSeed a shot! They have a great selection to choose from, the packaging was very organized, the price is fantastic, and the seeds came quick! I cannot wait to get these little seeds in the ground. I just placed a small order and I just wanted to mention how impressed I have been with the WHOLE EXPERIENCE. Great website, fun choices, amazing price points, INCREDIBLY FAST SHIPPING, and the warm touches of a small business. I’m really glad I went with y’all and I’ll definitely be doing more business with y’all in the future!

I ordered from this company for the second year jut a week or so before Christmas. (2021). The order arrived in perfect condition. No crushed seeds (Thank-you, USPS). It only took a few days to get here. The packets contained a good measure of seed and were in clear zip-lock bags making storage of unused seed easy and better than paper. Great people; great business! Recommended.

Just received 30 packs of seeds from Dollar Seeds. Since it's the dead of winter, I don't know whether they'll be viable yet, but I can say that the delivery was quick and accurate, and the seeds show no obvious signs of damage.

I'm really pleased to get all these seeds for $35, including $5 shipping since I'm replacing a seed collection I had to leave behind when I moved back to the US from the UK.

The seeds are all packed in clear ziplock bags with seed counts, germination test rates, and "packaged for 2022" on the labels.

Once the season starts, I'll post an updated review with my experience getting them to grow.

Such a surprising selection for the price! Don't let the simple design of the website deter you - ordering was easy and shipping was quick. I received a complimentary seed packet. So far everything has sprouted under grow lights. I will be ordering again - thank you DollarSeed!

I have bought both flower and vegetable seeds from DollarSeed.com and been happy with all of them. My first purchase was seeds for my Spring vegetable starts. I wasn't sure what the quality would be, so I over planted. Everything germinated and I ended up having enough plants for my garden and two of my friends. I've also bought flower seeds twice. Each time the quality and amount were good and the shipping was fast with great communication.

I wasted $27 on seeds from this company. When he stated he did not guarantee his seeds I should have then decided not to purchase. Only the squash seeds actually grew however did not produce a single piece of squash. The other 24 types of seeds, though planted twice, either did not grow correctly or did not grow at all. In saying that IF they grew seedlings that all looked exactly alike, grew long and leggy, then just died. None of these seeds yielded a single vegetable, herb or flower. This was very disappointing as of course as we purchased/planted the seeds to grow food. I advised the owner on three separate occasions including sending photos and he did nothing. Please do not waste your money on these seeds. Now it is too late to plant new seeds, too late to buy good plants, and as we depend on our planting for food we are at a loss due to this company. Too date he has still not refunded our money.

I placed an order two weeks ago today and have yet to receive any communication beyond the original confirmation email. I have contacted the email listed on the website and on the invoice and have gotten no response to either inquiry.

A previous order went differently which is why I made a second. Some notes about that experience:

One cost cutting method is using plastic ziploc baggies instead of paper envelopes. The resealing is nice, but the packets contain no growing information. As the proprietor mentions on their site, most of the information is available online, but if you are like me, be prepared for the extra step of writing notes on the packets. Elbow deep in soil is not a good time for a quick search of some stray detail I have forgotten.

One packet I received was mislabeled; it was marked as "coneflower" (Echinacea) when the seeds were in fact "cornflower" (Bachelor Buttons). Due to the similarity, it is likely a typo. This was an unrequested complimentary item, so it did not interrupt my planting, but made me a little nervous about some of the other seeds with which I am less visually familiar.

Otherwise, my first order had very fast turnaround and the seeds I have planted so far have had good germination rates. This makes my second ordering experience all the more disappointing and a real letdown. Retailers should not accept orders without fulfilling them.

I was looking for some flower seeds for my gardens. While not a huge selection, those that were there were a nice variety and I was able to find some familiar favorites and select a few that were new to me.

With such low prices, it is easy to give new plants a try. Shipping was perfectly reasonable. I received an email notice that my order was received, and another e-mail stating my order had been shipped and providing me with a tracking number.

My order arrived very quickly and the seeds are well packaged. A complimentary pack of seeds was included and a couple of little gifts. Very pleased with my purchase and will return again for future needs.

Seeds came quickly and as advertised. Everything has germinated so far and the order came with some complimentary seeds to enjoy. Highly recommend if they have what you're looking for and will be back again! Thank you for making it easy!

Good price, fast shipping, and quality seeds...

First time ordering, great experience. Seeds came in today and everything looks fine, plus I got a free gift which was a nice touch. Everything is labeled and ready to go. I'm just waiting for the weather to make up it's mind but I will be starting most everyone indoors this week.

They have a nice selection, not as large as I'd like, but what's there is most certainly enough. I would like to see a larger herb selection if anything. Most of all I love the prices, it's rather hard to find heirloom seeds at a decent price and I will be back again next year if not a few more times this year.

The only suggestion I have and I know it can be an large load of work, but I would like to see a growing zones listed. It really helps me settle on what I want to buy without having to put in an already exhaustive amount of research.

During this time of not being able to shop freely as normal, I decided to order seeds online this year. I found DollarSeed in a search and was pleased to see a larger selection of different vegetables at a decent price then I was expecting. The website was easy to navigate. The ordering process was easy. I was impressed with the fast shipping as I received notification of shipping within a day and received the order today. The seeds are clearly marked with the name and number of seeds in each bag. I was pleasantly surprised to find a free item included, which I am grateful to receive.

Looking forward to enjoying a great harvest this year.

I love DollarSeed! Both of my purchases shipped very quickly. My first round of seedlings look great with very high germination rates. You get a great value for a great price!

I haven't planted my seeds yet but am already impressed by the selection, the value, and the speed at which the seeds arrived.

I do wish the website was a little more streamlined, and that there was a guide to how to interpret all the numbers and abbreviations on the seed packets, that they sent an email when the package shipped, and that instead of urls on printed materials they did URcodes. Other than that, no complaints. They sent complementary seed packet, a pen, and a fridge magnet too!
