Comments regarding Seeds of Change

First time order and so far I am not overly impressed. I ordered six packets of seed and received them within 7 days from placing the order. No free packet of seed included. Perhaps I did not order or spend enough. Shipping is on the pricey side compared to other vendors.
Seed packets were the amounts as promised with the exception of Chires Baby Corn which came up with less than the140 seeds stated in the catalog. Still there is enough to get a decent crop from.
Website has been confusing. Prices in the print catalog have not matched what is in the website even with the 5% added. My thought is if that they are going to change pricing and shipping, they need to do it across the board in one release instead of updating it when they feel like it. It's not good customer service to have price descrepencies on many items.
While they can improve in these areas, what is going to count now is how well they germinate and grow. "Organic" is secondary to me. I purchased seeds from Seeds of Change because they have a few varieties of tomatoes and peppers I cannot get from anywhere else.

I ordered online and received my complete order in less than a week. Their shipping charge was fair and they included a free packet of seeds which I really appreciated. Just so happens it was one I was thinking of ordering and did not.

I've had great experiences with this company so far.
The seeds germinated well and the catalogue gorgeous.
There's always a free seed packet in the shipment.

I placed an order on Jan. 6, 2006, for several items, including a salsa six pack of plants. All the non-plant items came, but on Mar. 30 I called to check on status of live plants. The rep said oh, sorry that item is all sold out. She acknowledged that it probably wasn't sold out when I placed my order. I was NEVER notified of the problem. Not by email or via the partial shipping slips. Little late to start tomatillo seed in New England for me now! Very poor way to communicate and deal with customers.

We've had one positive and one negative experience--ending up neutral. The first time we ordered seed packets--they came quickly and most seemed to sprout. We've bought them from a store, as well.

Then right at the beginning of this year, We just received their catalog--telling us to order now for fruit trees "go quickly". Well we ordered right away, online. Not long after, we were checking on our order--online--and one tree said "Cancelled" the second tree said "Customer cancelled". We thought that was really strange since we didn't make any cancellations. We tried emailing them--no response. Again we emailed--no response. So we called the customer service line where the gal was pretty curt, not wanting to give us any info as to why it happened--just that "We" had cancelled one tree--and the other would be drop shipped sometime in the future. It sounded as though it was our fault, not theirs???

We tried emailing again about the phone experience--no response.

And on the phone they told us the one tree had sold out--well weeks later, maybe months later it was still advertised as "available" on their website and in the numerous catalogs that we are sent.

We love Organic gardening---but we're a little leery of a company that doesn't respond to emails quickly--and doesn't want to give any info over the phone.

The seeds I have received from Seeds of Change have been viable, and produced beautiful plants. I placed an order late this year (early May) and was pleased and suprised to find that I received my seeds within 5 days of ordering. Bonus seeds were also a plus.

I ordered for the first time this year. The web site was very easy to order from, and the seeds came very quickly. I'm looking forward to starting them in a couple of weeks.

My positive experience is that the seeds arrived almost immediately and they are already growing.
My negative experience is that I ordered lacewing eggs for my heated greenhouse and paid for 2-day shipping. After 3 calls and 4 weeks the only answer I am able to get is they have been "drop shipped" meaning they do not have them in stock and that they are being sent from somewhere else. I think this should be explained in their catalogue so one does not get the impression that Seeds of Change actually has this item available for sale.

I have been ordering from seeds of change for about 5 years now and am very impressed with the viability and vigor of their seed. I have had very good results with their squash seed. I found sweet keeper, hopi orange, and their buttercup seeds to be great performers. The first time I planted their sweet keeper squash seed they were huge, pretty to look at and made great squash pie.
I love their catalog and their web site, both have great information especially their online news letters. I have had a couple of varieties back ordered it took a bit longer to get them but that was ok since I ordered seed in janurary.
I will continue to do business with seeds of change. They also have an honorable mission in supporting organics and heirlooms. Excellent company,

Interesting variety of organic seeds, some hard to find. Placed an order in Feb 05, recv'd complete order in a week or so. Plan to order from this supplier again!

They were very helpful this year when my package went missing. The only downer about that ended up being a late start on the sowing.

Last year they called to confirm an especially large internet order to be sure it wasn't a typo or fraudulent. I know it's in the company's best interest to avoid mistakes or stop fraud, but it works out nicely for the customer too, so it's nice that they take the time to check things out.

Their seed products have been reliable for me, and I have done comparison shopping and found they have the best price for certain growing aids and soil ammendments. The seed prices are higher than some other companies, but it's worth it for the variety--last year I was able to grow some plants from seed that I remember growing as a kid and haven't found since then, it was great!

I started ordering from Seeds of Change about 11 years ago and have ordered from them off and on over the years. I'm back to ordering from Seeds of Change.

My 5 year old son fell in love with some of the varieties in their catalog. Some of the items he chose are Celosia cristata 'Orange Temple Bells', regular old oriental poppies (the scarlet variety), Zinnia elegans 'Righteous Red' and Cosmos bipinnatus 'Sea Shell'. I'm so excited to have him interested in gardening and this catalog enticed him.

They have a great catalog, great website and an honorable mission. They've also signed the safe seed pledge. That is extremely important to me. Way to go!

Order came quick, the catalog is great - lots of varieties of veggies and herbs. I can't wait to start growing! I'll re-post when I know how the seeds fare...

I continue to order from Seeds of Change, in packets and in bulk. Even when on backorder, seeds come quickly and there is no extra shipping fee. Price is very reasonable when compared to other organic or heirloom seeds. Excellent selection and viability of seeds. Will continue to do business with them AGAIN & AGAIN...

Received my first order in a timely manner and can't wait until Spring! They also included an extra pack of seeds as a bonus.

Absolutely positive part: I have ordered from Seeds of Change, probably, ten times over the last few years. I have found their seed to be of highest purity and germination and have always used it with great success--every time. Also, the fact that they sell only 100% certified organic seed is really an incredible feat to accomplish. In many ways, this is the best vegetable seed company in the US.

Somewhat iffy part: I find their seed counts to be a bit on the low side for my needs. Also, I have had problems with their backordering and their customer service. I recently ordered 1/2 lb of sunflower seed online and when it did not arrive in 3 weeks I called their customer service. The order had been cancelled without giving me notice. Then, I ordered again, this time by calling them on the phone. They confirmed that although the "1/2 lb size was out of stock," they did have in stock "2 - 1/4 lb size" packets. So I ordered these, along with some celery seed, but when the celery seed came in the mail there was also a note saying that the 2 - 1/4 lb packets of sunflower seed were on backorder! It's not easy to run a seed company...

My online order was filled, shipped and receivedVERY quickly. Seeds of Change offers a 5% discount for online orders, and included a bonus packet of seeds (a variety I had considered ordering) as well. The packets are very pretty and colorful, not that it influences the quality of seeds within.

I have ordered from this company as well as buying their seeds off the rack. Like others have said, delivery is quick and the seeds are usually viable. But a packet of what was supposed to be old species calendula grew a modern mix instead, which at 2.50-a-packet-plus-shipping is annoying (maybe I would feel different if it were a .60 packet). Their overall selection is a bit eccentric, too. They seem to have set themselves up as competition to Seed Savers Exchange, except that SSE is non-profit. I will continue to order from this company in the future if they have something I want, but won't necessarily rely on them for heirlooms.

I don't know how I first came to know Seeds of Change, but I have been happy ever since. Over the years I have ordered many different types of seeds and been pleased with everything they've sent. My germination rates are high and the plant strains are right on target. I have ordered their catalogs for friends and give a large green thumb up for their mission. What a great company!

I placed my first order from Seeds of Change a couple of months ago, and received my seeds promptly. So far I'm very impressed with their selection, especially the vegetable seeds. Will most certainly order from them again.

I first purchased SOC seeds at a food coop in Albuquerque in 2001. I had good results then, and this year even got a good bunch of ancho chile plants from some of the leftover seed. Pretty impressive viability. I placed a large seed order on their website this spring, and my order arrived, complete and without mistakes, within a week. The free packet of seeds was a nice touch. I'll do business with them again.

I was blown away at how quickly they got these seeds to me. I ordered online and received them in just a few days. They also included an extra packet of seeds and a coupon. I'm very impressed and definitely will be doing business with them again.

I have ordered from them this year and a couple years ago. Both times the order came in quickly with all my seeds. Viabilty is OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!! If they don't grow for you, you did something very wrong. Love their selection and catalog information. The prices are a little higher than some companies but I believe the quality of the seed is also better and well worth it. I will definitely be ordering from them again.

Order rec'd in 4 days. Don't know if the seeds are viable yet (too soon to say), but I was very pleased at the extremely fast order fulfillment. I think they have a very good website. And I particularly love the fact that they include varieties that are purported to grow in partial shade, since my lot is covered with huge trees that are too expensive to cut down at this point in time.

It has been my second year ordering from this company. I have mostly ordered vegetable and flower seeds. My orders are always shipped promptly, and I have had EXCELLENT germination rate on all seeds ordered. I also like their selection of gardening books, and their organic philosophy. Reasonable prices, as well.

Their products are expensive, but worth the money. Everything I have planted thrived. I will have potatoes until next year! I also bought a neat tool that lets me make seed pots out of newspaper. Will buy from again.

I have purchased Seeds of Change seeds both in retail sites and from the catalogue. The seeds have always been of high quality and I usually get "volunteer" plants the following year. This year I successfully germinated some seeds which were five years old. The catalogue is informative, especially for a newer gardner.

I have had nothing but good experiences with SOC, would order from them again, and appriate the information on their seed packets.

I have ordered twice now from Seeds of Change. I have found their service to be excellent!!
Within the next couple of weeks I will know how well their seeds come up.

Many years ago this firm had many unusual okra seeds from
foreign lands, now it has none - except for Star of David
which is only available from them and Baker Creek.

Sure would like to find more exotic okra, as I am an okra
FREEK! lol

Their catalog is unusual, informative and differerent than
the mainstream catalogs.

This place has their own little spot in the world, giving
speciality items to those who will appreciate it.

The company needs a bit of "prodding" to improve its line.

I ordered from them for my first time this year. They sent everything quickly, they even included a coupon for their grocery products in stores. Their seed packets are beautifully designed and with good instructions. They also sent information on why organic gardening is the way to go, and it is! Try ordering from them.

I ordered some bulk seeds from them and agree with the previous comment that the bags need improvement. I too spilled my seeds, all over the place.

They are high priced but the seeds are certainly very good! I will order from them again but hope they do something about those bags.

I have ordered for a number of years from them and have always had good results with the seeds purchased. They have a nice selection of hard to find peppers and tomatoes and a beautiful website.

This year I ordered a few packets of bulk seeds for the first time. They seeds were simply packaged in a plastic bag that was machine sealed at the top. Upon opening, I promptly spilled the seeds. OK, maybe I'm not that coordinated, but the packaging could be improved.

My only other comment is that their shipping fees are pricey. I continue to order from them despite this because there are some seeds I just can't get anywhere else.

I'm suprised, I thought this company would go downhill after they were purchased by M&M Mars, but they seem to have remained true to their mission. I have cautiously accepted that they have remained true to their mission and I hope this will continue. Overall a good selections of organic seeds at a good price.

It's been a long time since I've ordered from this comapany, but this year I could not resist. They've expanded their catalog and I found they have much more to offer. I sent my order via snail mail, since it appears the website had not been updated yet for 2003. I recieved the order in record time, even though it's peak season for the Christmas mailing rush. My order was complete and I'm looking forward planting!

This year was the first time I ordered from Seeds of Change, and have been very happy with all the seeds (carrots, leeks, lettuce, raddichio). I'm growing some heirloom corn; the first corn I've ever tried. Friends insisted it would be no go since I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan where the growing season is very short. Well, it's August and my corn has ripening ears that look good so far. If the first fall frost holds off until September and if the raccoons and deer don't get them first, I'll be ecstatic...and will order from these folks again next year.

I went to the Seeds of Change website when someone suggested them as a good source of agate soybean seed. I ordered some of that, and then some impulse-purchase seeds while I was at it. I waited eagerly for my soybeans for a week. Then the envelope came in the mail, with everything but my soybeans. The packing slip said they were "backorder cancelled."

If the website had said they were out, I wouldn't have bothered placing an order, saving myself $13.50. They did send some free primrose seed in place of the soybeans, and a nice response to the email I wrote them after receiving (most of) my order, but I won't be ordering from their site again, now that I know that I won't be notified of out-of-stocks until a week after I've placed an order. At least not if it's something I want as much as I wanted those beans.

All the seeds I grew from this company grew well, and thrived. Not only is this a quality company, they are hard at work saving seeds that could be lost. My seeds are always in excellent condition.
