Comments regarding Seeds of Change

Like other SofC customers, I got great seeds, had very good results, and like the commitment to organic methods. But another advantage is that this company is really good for beginners--seeds I've purchased from other companies come with little or no information about growing conditions, time to maturity, planting depth, etc, so you may have to look up this information again when your seeds arrive. Their catalog is beautiful and informative, and makes it easy to get started in organic gardening. You may easily find slightly cheaper seeds by shopping around, but if you're just getting started, it's worth the price difference. (And I'll keep buying from them even when I'm out of the "beginner" stage.)

I have dealt with this company for years without any problems. All seeds received were all viable and grew into very nice plants. I especially like the organic concept of this company. I will continue to purchase seed from this company. I have purchased seed via email and snail mail and have always been very satisfied.

I have dealt with Seeds of Change for years, with no complaints. I have had success with their seeds, and I always felt that the seeds were of good quality. They did arrive to me in good condition in each case, and in a timely manner. Also, they were the first seed company I knew of to encourage organic biological diversity, and drew my attention to the valuable nutrients and phytochemicals in fruits and vegegables. Also, some of their stuff is unique and lovely, not to be found elsewhere. I love their catalogue, and plan to order nine kinds of lettuce from them and the green glaze collards, which I have never seen in another catalogue.

The staff was very helpful and after delay send me seeds that I was seeking without billing me. However, the seeds inside the packet were pulverized and grew nothing.

I have used their seeds in the past,I was given some by a friend when I lived in New Mexico. They were good seeds and the plants did very well.

I have purchased seeds for three years now, and a few plants, from Seeds of Change. I have had no problems and have been pleased with the selection of heirloom and non-hybrid varieties that are not available from most any other source as far as I know. I think they are a great company. They did not have some items, (garlic), but I was informed in a timely manner, so I'll order from them again. One general comment I'd like to add: I've seen a lot of remarks on various companies, where orders didn't arrive healthy, or on time, and it ruined the whole season for the gardener. This is the reason why I usually try to order stuff I use a lot of, like lettuce or spinach or green beans or onions, from several different sources. I guess I figure not to put all my seeds or plants in one basket, so to speak, whenever possible.

I'd ordered seeds from them on and off over the years and was always very happy with the unusualvarieties, and with their general orientation and sense of mission. However, they screwed me badly last year over a garlic order, and I doubt I'll ever deal with them again.I ordered probably 4-5 varieties of hardneck garlic for fall planting. I remember I ordered a little late in the spring, and spent a bit of time on the phone verifying that they indeed had adequate supplies of the varieties I was interested in. No problem here, the person was very patient and helpful. Now, I plant garlic on or around Columbus Day here in eastern Massachusetts. By early October, I hadn't received my garlic yet. Just as I was about to dig out their phone number and chase down my order, I received a letter. A photocopy of a form letter stating that they had experienced bad weather and crop failure---forget any garlic this season. Now the reason I got so ticked off was that the form letter was dated JULY and I didn't receive it until OCTOBER, when it was too late to order garlic from anyone else. VERY SHABBY, UNPROFESSIONAL TREATMENT. If they had mailed me the form letter in July, I could have found another source by fall planting time. Also, they've added a bunch of high-end, over-priced "Gardener's Eden" gift and clothing items to their catalog, which severely dilutes their noble missions of diversity and seed-saving.

Seeds of Change has also been good about delivery and answering questions.

Seeds of Change is one of the good guys in the field. They sell excellent seed and ship promptly. I've ordered from them twice and they have a customer for life.

I have been ordering from this company since their first catalog. They have grown and changed a lot but the quality of the seeds and germination rates are outstanding. Being organic and heirloom seeds they reproduce true to form. The mexican sunflower seeds I ordered have paid for themselves many times over. I at one time had hundreds of plants growing. The seeds are worth the extra price because of the almost 100% germination and heatlh of the plants. I love this company and will order from them forever. Alan Kapular has done some amazing research and any one of us who would love to feel they can save the planet should read his stuff and realize all our gardens combined really could!

These guys are awesome. Their catalogue is heavy with color photos and selection, especially herbs. I have ordered twice from them at the height of season this year ('98) and both times the order came in 3 DAYS! I have to travel 3 hours to plant things in my parents garden, and when it is rainy like it has been this year, and you have small windows of time to plant in, this is the kind of company you need. And you can order 24 hours a day. They are a bit expensive for the amount of seed you get, but everything does well, and they are organic. I am very happy to have found them.

My only complaint is the price of their seeds. OUCH!!! These guys are very expensive!!! But then, who else has elephant trunk amaranth seeds for sale?

Just thought I would share with you my favorite source for seeds. They don't market plants or root stock, just seeds, but their company ethics and service are outstanding. They are the only source of organic seeds that I am aware of and they have a nice variety, without being too overwhelming.

Very happy to see all the organic seed and plant growers/retailers on the Email. Seeds of Change and the guys in Washington/Oregon have been a favorite of mine for decades. I remember when they got started commercially. They went slick in the last decade. Have to order a new catalog from Seeds of Change. My last one was Christmas, l996.

Besides having wonderful seeds, this company has very fast service. I mailed in three seed orders on the same day--those from Seeds of Change arrived in 7 days; the other two orders took 14 days. The seed packets are beautiful and contain specific descriptions of each plant. They are somewhat expensive, but well worth it.

My husband found this address because he wants to do some organic gardening, and these are supposed to be seeds which come from plants uncontaminated by pesticides or chemical fertilizers. He hasn't ordered any yet, but he probably will very soon.
