Comments regarding Totally Tomatoes

I have ordered from Totally Tomatoes for the past couple of years and have been impressed with their selection and service. The seeds I ordered came very quickly and in the past have had a good germination rate. Looking forward to trying some of their new selections this year and hopefully will continue to have success in the garden with them.

I have never ordered plants from this company.

I recently ordered several pkts of seed by mail and was very surprised by the speed in which my order arrived. Fair prices, great selection, fast shipping, wasn't shortchanged on the seed count and I have 100% germination. I can't ask for more except a ripe tomato right now... (:

I've got to say that my experience with this company has been good so far. My order of seed arrived quickly. It's too early in my zone to start my seeds yet, but I'm getting very anxious! I expect a high germination rate based on reviews by others which is why I ordered from this company in the first place. As to the negative feedback from PLANTS being shipped through the mail, I've seen how items come through the mail system and wouldn't trust ANY shipping company to take care of my order!! They are based on a bottom line, and NOT the condition of your package.

I have never had any problems with this company. I will not order plants from any company because of the postal service. I found it a great deal better to raise your plants, when possible from seed, that way your plants are less likely to have a desease.This is my first post on this board and am looking forward to learning all I can.

I have ordered from Totally Tomatoes for several years. I have always had the correct order delivered in an acceptable time. I have never ordered the plants from them, but the seed have a high germanation rate and produce a good crop. I am very pleased with this company.

This is my first time ordering here. I placed an on line order on 12/19. I called today to check the status as I have not received the items. The first lady, "Lisa" told me I did not have an order with them and that their computers are very accurate. I did not have a confirmation number for her, but I still hoped they could help me out. After I hung up, I decided to place the order that I supposedly didn't make. BUT, while re-doing my order on their website, I found my confirmation number!!!! I called them back and got a different person and I gave her the confirmation number and the first thing she said was "Your order will not show up for the first 24 hours after placing an on line order." I explained that I placed the order on 12/19 to which she said "oh, that is on backorder until sometime in February." This is the first company I have ordered seeds from for 2007 to have backordered items. Both people I spoke with were courteous.

Received complete order in 5 days. Can't complain about that!!

I have bought seeds from them for several years. All with good results. The seeds have all had high germination rates. Fast service and a great staff to answer questions. Have never had any trouble so can't comment on the help you would receive if you did. One of the best I've found.

I have delt with Totally Tomatoes for 8 years. I started out ordering seed for a small garden. Two yearts ago I purchased a 30ft X 48ft greenhouse and began ordering enough seed for my own use and growing plants for selling. I have never had any problems with my orders and the germination rate for my seed has been at least 98%. I sell produce at a farmers market and depend on these seed to produce a good quantity as well as quality of tomatoes. Most of the negative comments I have seen have come from people who have ordered plants. Plants are very difficult to ship and how fast they are planted has a great deal to do with their survival rate. I plan to continue to use this company in the future.

Ordered tomato and pepper plants. Mostly necrotic 2-4" leafless dead stalks, inferior and substandard at their very prime, arrived as a loosely packed glop of useless compost material with a price tag of a premium $3 per useless plant. The few plants that could be identified did not match what was ordered. The customer service number is no longer associated with Totally Tomatoes and e-mail has yet to be answered. This company needs to be reported to the BBB for possibly fraudulent representations and legal remedies taken by current and past aggrieved parties. This company is a disgrace.

I have been ordering pepper and tomato seeds from this company for 7 or 8 years and have never had a problem with my order. Germination rates are excellent and the selection of varieties enables us to try two or three new ones each year. We especially like the heirloom selections. Another plus is the free packs with each order of $5 or so. We have found some of our favorite varieties that way and have ordered seed in succeeding years.

I received my order the week of May 7, 2005. I had ordered tomato and pepper plants. Upon opening the box and looking inside I was shocked at the condition of the plants. They were all more then half dead and were loosley packed. What shocked me more then anything from a company that is supposedly devoted to Tomatoes was the poor quality and size of the tomatoes. These poor things were weaned far too soon.
I called and spoke to a very helpful rep who stated that the company had been receiving alot of complaints this year and offered to reship the entire order. I agreed to this kind offer.
About a week later I received ther replacement order. The plants are still exceedingly small and very Fragile. I have planted some so far. One has already died and the others are barely clinging to life.
COmpared to what I have received from Burpee.. these poor things should NEVER Have been shipped. Burpee's Tomatoes are Big and stronge and VERY Healthy.
I am shocked that a company that promotes awesome products would carelessly ship poorly grown plants, packed haphazardly with little care and more then that.... to shop products that are so small and in such poor condition. How they manage to stay in business it mind boggling.
Will I ever order from them again?? When Hell freezes over!
I have also spread the word to my onling garden friends NEVER to order from them.
I feel so bad for the poor plants. This company should be ashamed of themselves for advertisinf great plants and ship out plants that are barely big enough to be called a seedling and in such poor condition. Gardeners CARE about their plants. THis company cares NOTHING about it's plants.

Totally tomatoes was a huge disappointment. It's really too bad - they seem like a good company in many ways, but BE WARNED: they offer some products that they just CANNOT deliver! The seeds they sent us were satisfactory - they germinated and grew well. But we also ordered quite a few tomato and pepper seedlings, which arrived in terrible shape. I've ordered seedlings and plants from other places, and never had any trouble. However, all of the plants we received from Totally Tomatoes were in terrible shape. They appeared to have been very poorly packed - almost all of them were not in their protective plastic casings anymore. Instead of seedlings, we got a bunch of wilty stalks, and a pile of leaves at the bottom of the package. If anyone is interested I have some very depressing digital pictures of the spectacle.
When I called, they were very nice about it at first, and said I didn't have to do anything and would receive a full refund. I would have asked for them to just send the plants again, but they said that they didn't think that the plants would arrive in any better shape than they did the first time - apparently they often have this problem! So, I planted the few that looked like they might survive, and composted the rest. Then two days later they called back and said that I had to return everything! I couldn't believe it! I explained that I had already composted most of the seedlings and thrown away the packaging, because of what they had told me before. No sympathy. So - to get my money back I had to dig through my compost and trash to find the seelings and packaging, dig up the other sad little plants from the ground (most had died, but a few looked like they might have made it) and send them back. They did send me return postage, which was nice, and were always polite. Still, the whole experience left me very unhappy. If they cannot reliably ship plants, perhaps they shouldn't offer them, or should have a warning about that! I had counted on them for the majority of my tomato and pepper seedlings this year! Fortunately, I was able to get some good seedlings from friends who had many extras. The totally tomatoes seedlings were very small anyway, so perhaps it was for the best.

In sum - order seeds from them if you like, but be very wary about the seedlings! Don't rely on them!

Have used Totally tomatoes for seeds many times with satisfaction. This year, ordered seeds and plants, before Christmas. Seeds = ok. Plants came late in April and had been dislodged from their airtight box. Only 4 of 16 have survived. E-mailed T.Tomatoes and have heard nothing

I ordered about $100 worth of seed this year from them... Seems they misshipped one packet and germination rate seems a little low but that may be me... It all came within 5 days of ordering and I am on the other side of the country...

They send their catalogue to me early (December), I order early Early January) and receive items early. Missed items arrived a couple weeks later. Have been satisfied with their product. Meets my March planting window. Never have been short seeded and the germination has been good.

I have been ordering from TT for at least 4 years and have never had a problem. I just received my 2005 order this past Monday. Their seeds are always top quality and germination is good even 2 years later.

I was afraid to order because of the negative comments but decided to chance it because of the great selection and prices. I received my complete order in less than a week. I'll let you know about the germination.

I placed my order online on 12-21-04. I received all of my order today
(1-06-05). Thats just 16 day and during Christmas and New Years holidays. I think that is pretty good. All of my order was in the package and they were packed great.
I will order from them again.

Placed a small order with them < $25. Order arrived in 7 days. They also gave me three free packets of seed. I will use them again.

you know, I feel really bad, i sent a small seed order to TT, and then, reading all the negative comments , i sent a e mail to cancel the order. They immediately reversed the charges, and cancelled my order. then, i looked in the refigerator at my left-over seeds, and a good many of my best seeds came from them.now, dont i feel like a idiot!! so, perhaps the negative comments are orders that were mishandled in some way, not by the purchaser, but either in handing, or even the company. but all i want to say is, i've had excellent results from this company,--i only wish i felt like i could order again!!

This year was the first time I have ever ordered from Totally Tomatoes and I will order from them again. They have good prices and a very good selection of hard to find tomato and pepper varieties. I ordered by snail-mail and paid with a check and I got my complete order in about 10 days (please note that I only ordered seeds and my order was not large). Germination rates were excellent. The tomatoes have already set fruit and the plants are healthy. I have no problem recommending this company.

I received a catalog from this company for the first time this year. They offer a nice variety of both hybrids and heirlooms. I placed two different orders and received my seeds in a week on both occasions. I also ordered tomato plants from Totally Tomatoes. The catalog indicated they would be shipped between
April 15 and May 1. I did not receive them until May 5, but I did not have a problem with this since early May is a good planting time for my area(KansasCity).
The seeds germinated at nearly 100 percent, and plants were in reasonably good condition and are doing fine after being planted.

I just got my order of 8 Brandywine Tomato plants. The mailman left them in my very hot mailbox yesterday b/c there was no live plants sticker on the box!!!!!
I am also very disappointed at the size of the plants. The box thet came in was the size that an order of checks would come in!!!!!
The plants look pathetic right now. I'm gonna repot them and water a few days to see if they live and then I'll set them out. I am contacting the Co. ASAP!
I will adjust this rating according to how the plants do.

I have ordered from TT for a number of years. I like the variety offered (tomatoes). Some varieties, like Caspian Pink, are out-of-this-world delicious and not available in local stores! My small (personal) order was sent timely this year. In past years, it has taken forever to get my order, which is quite disappointing when it happens. This year, either their service/shipping improved, or it makes a difference to use online ordering and a credit card instead of sending a check. (I used the cc this year, as I believe the card can't be charged until product is shipped. In prior years, I have sent a check.)

I have experienced the occasional "dead" seed packet or mislabeled seed packet, but they have always made good on any of my complaints. (That doesn't recover what you lose for the season, though.) If I was a business, I would be careful how and when I ordered from them, and they probably wouldn't be my sole source of seed, but my opinion is that they have improved this year.

All of my seed THIS YEAR came in good time and has germinated well. (As for mislabeling, I will only know that months from now...)

I ordered $150 dollars worth of seed upgraded to expidited shipping for 10.00 and it came 5 days later via regular first class mail. This company is dishonest with it's shipping practices. I have bought seed from them before and quality is not a problem. But they shouldn't charge extra to give you nothing.

On March 25 at approximately 11 PM EST, I ordered several packets of vegetable seeds from Totally Tomatoes website. On the site, they offer "Express Shipping" for an extra $10 (in addition to the regular $2.50 shipping charge). Being in a tremendous rush, I decided to pay the $12.50 for express shipping to Connecticut....this shipping cost me as much as the actual seeds! On the very same evening I ordered seeds from this company, I also ordered seeds from Renee's Garden, which ships from California....thousands of miles further away from me than Wisconsin, where Totally Tomatoes is located. I paid $6 TOTAL for priority shipping from Renee's Garden and had the seeds in my hand on March 29...2 business days time. On April 1, I still did not have my seeds from Totally Tomatoes. On both April 1 & April 2 I spoke to 2 separate supervisors from the customer service dept., neither of whom provided an acceptable explanation of why I paid an extra 10 DOLLARS for shipping and did not get the seeds in less than a week. I was told that the extra cost is because they sent out the seeds by Priority MAil rather than regular shipping. When I pointed out that priority mail costs $3.85 and asked WHY I had paid almost NINE DOLLARS more than that, I got the same answer...because I got a faster shipping method. Too funny! They said they could not place my order ahead of "thousands of other orders" ahead of mine... once again, I asked, "THen what was the purpose of me paying an extra $10 for shipping?" Can you imagine paying $12.50 to ship 5 packets of seeds from Wisconsin to Connecticut and not having it in less than a week? I can't. For $12.50 I could send an envelope of seeds OVERNIGHT by AIRPLANE across the country and have it there the next day. $12.50 is a disgraceful amount of money to charge for "Express Shipping" that takes as long as this for 5 packets of seeds to be delivered.

In early February I sent a tiny first order to this company. Within two weeks, I had not only that order, but several free packets of tomato and pepper seed - these free seeds being new varieties I was not familiar with.

All seeds germinated and are doing well. I am pleased with the service from Totally Tomatoes and would be happy to re-order from them in the future.

I received a catalog from this company for the first time this year. As I am interested in oddball tomato varieties, I placed an order. I received seeds within 7 days, with 2 free packs of seeds, one tomato, and one pepper. Also, plants are very nicely priced, at less than 1 dollar a piece!!! I have yet to grow anything, but thus far I am very pleased with this company's performance.

I ordered in 2003 from Totally Tomatoes and got my seeds promptly and in good shape. They were packaged in a nice cardboard box and only ordered about 8 packages. I grew the seed for the year 2003 and they all germanated well and produced great. I would order again from this company. It was also nice to get two packages of seeds free.

After receiving their catalog, which looks great, I decided to try some of their unusual tomatos and a couple of peppers. After ordering I remembered this site and was worried after seeing some of the negative feedback. I figured I'd wait and see what happened, expecting something to go wrong. However, within 8 days my order arrived complete and in good shape. I ordered off their website which was easy to use and fast. I haven't planted anything yet but in terms of ease of ordering and speed of delivery they did great.

I have ordered from this site at least twice that I can recall. Once about a year or two ago I had ordered Persimmon Tomato seed and it was absolutely wonderful. The shipment arrived within 3 weeks as I had expected. Then this year I ordered some tomato seed and after 4 weeks went by I got concerned and informed the company. They sent more seed right away. That shippment arrived within 10 days. The funny thing is two weeks after that the original shippment showed up. The package was beat up and it had an older postage date. So I have to wonder how much of this companies shipping problems are really within their control. I would encourage anyone who wants a wide variety of quality tomato seed to order from them. Then I would make sure to tell them to order early and give the shippment at least 6 weeks to arrive just incase.

THEY TOOK OVER 2 MONTHS TO SHIP 4 ITEMS (3 SEPARATE SHIPMENTS). THEY SHIPPED SOMETHING OTHER THAN BEEFMASTER IN A BEEFMASTER ENVELOPE. IT APPEARS TO BE A BEEFSTEAK OF SOME SORT (FLATTENED RATHER THAN ROUND) WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF CATFACING. I ALSO ORDERED SUN CHERRY AND HAVE MIXED SEED WITH A YELLOW PLUM (CHERRY) THAT I HAVE NEVER ORDERED OR GROWN. THEY NEVER HAD THIS KIND OF PROBLEM IN THE PAST.

Overall, this was a neutral-to-negative experience.

I was happy to see TTs' variety packs of plants, a few each of a variety of tomato and/or pepper plants; working out to about $1 per plant. I ordered a variety pack of peppers and another of tomatoes.

They arrived in a very small box. They're small (plugs), but I expected that. But some of them were almost dead. I planted and watered them ASAP; haven't fertilized yet. I lost all the plants for a few specific varieties, but none of the others. I guess about a 20% mortality rate overall.

The remainder have finally started to perk up, and I think they will survive.

I haven't called TTs yet to see how/if customer service will do anything about the DOA plants.

So I'll think twice before ordering from here again.

FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH TOTALLY TOMATOES. THIS YEAR I ORDERED AN ORNAMENTAL COLLECTION, COLORFUL BELL PEPPER PLANT AND BIG 4 TOMATO COLLECTION. THIS WAS JANUARY 30! I CALLED THIS COMPANY NUMEROUS TIMES, EMAILED THEM, FAXED THEM AND EVENTHOUGH THEY CERTAINLY HAVE MY MONEY (YOU CAN BE SURE) I HAVE RECEIVED NOTHING TO THIS DATE! THE LAST TIME I CALLED WAS YESTERDAY AND I HELD FOR 1 HOUR AND I AM NOW INFORMED THAT THEY ARE OUT OF PEPPER PLANTS! (THEY ARE OUT OF STOCK) I ORDERED ON JANUARY 30!
I AM TOTALLY DISGUSTED AND WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. THEY ARE NOT EVEN WILLING TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS FOR THEIR ERROR. MY ORDER NUMBER IS T10111 DATE 01/30/03. We buy lots of seed! Always had good results with TT. It has changed! Seems they are now JUNG. Oh my,. Well this year, bad enough seeds don't arrive when they should, they now do not grow!!!! Very bad germination. Celebrity tomatoes were at about 10%. To late to order somewhere else. We are a commerical grower so this will affect our sales volume. Their catalog will now be deposited in file #13. HPS which was also taken over by Jung is in the same boat.

I've been ordering from T.T. for many years. While I've had some previous delivery problems I've stayed with them for their extensive selection. That is, until now. This year will be the last as they "broke the camels back". I ordered 1/21/03, check cleared 2/3/03. Contacted them, after numerous attempts, on 3/10/03 and was told my order would be "EXPEDITED" and should ship in 2 to 3 days. Called AGAIN on 3/24/03 was told order had shipped on the 3/21. Didn't receive until the 31st! Was once a dedicated customer... NEVER AGAIN !! NO EXCUSE ACCEPTABLE !! SORRY T.T. it's over.

I have been very dissapointed by Totally Tomatoes. I was impressed by all of their varieties, and excited to order seeds from them. Unfortunately, it has now been more than a month later, I haven't recieved any seeds, and they don't seem to be responsive to inquiries (no one answers their phone number, and they don't answer emails - even when posted to the web-site). They recently posted a message alerting customers that it could take up to three weeks to recieve seeds now, since they are experiencing a heavy load of orders, though this message wasn't posted when I ordered. I won't be ordering from them again.
