Comments regarding Rogue Valley Roses

I have done business with this company a few times, ordering both bands and gallons. The first time, the bands were tiny sticks. 4 bands in particular were barely rooted cuttings, not even filling out the band pot with roots. When the cutting was removed from the band, the roots were about 2 inches long and there were 5 roots on one, 4 roots on the other and not many more on the rest of them. I carefully repotted them in a better pot and put them in my greenhouse to grow. The following year, I potted them up to 1 gal. pots and grew them out some more. I had also ordered some 1 gal. roses. None of them had their roots filled out in their pots either and had looked like they were recently planted from bands. I did call the company and left a message with a woman. I explained to her what I wrote above and gave her my telephone number. She said she would have the owner call. I work but have an answering machine and a caller I.D., I never heard from them. Based on the ratings, I thought it may have been a mistake of what I had received so I called back again and explained again and the guy I spoke with on the phone said some grow slow and the description I gave sounded right. Even the 3 inch roots on the gal.'s I asked ? And he said yes.
The following year I called to ask what the roots were like on their roses that year because I had a few more I wanted to aquire that no one else carried and I did not want to recieve anymore barely rooted sticks. I was told that they filled the pots out and were of good size so I got off the phone, got an order together and called it in. A few months later I recieved my order and was really excited. When I opened the boxes and unwrapped each rose, I carefully removed each one from the pot to look at the roots, I became sick to my stomach thinking about how much money I had spent on these under-developed sick looking things and thought not AGAIN... Only 1 gal. rose had looked wonderful. The others were the same size as the bands and had the same size roots as the bands which weren't much better from the year before. I was lied to or they ran short and didn't want to lose out any money so they threw bands in 1 gal. pots and shipped them. The bands were a little better rooted this time, but like I said, not much better. By this time I had had enough, and said never again!
This year, I was on their website looking at pictues of roses that another rose vendor I am ordering from, did not have pictures of. While on Rogues website, I noticed they are now selling some of their bands for 15.00 Their 1 gal.'s sell for 14.50 and their bands 12.50 and now they are charging on some of their bands, which are not hard-to-find-roses, more than their 1 gal.'s.... Now that's unbelieveable and a great way to rip us off even more!! Must be how they make up for the specials they have. The 2 that I remember off the top of my head are Jerri Jennings and Jeanie LaJoie. Jeanie LaJoie is available in a 31/2 inch pot at Noreast-mini-roses.com for 7.95. Gee, you can get 2 for about the price of 1 and the shipping is a little over 11.00 for up to 6 roses, priority! They also have alot of other mini climbers.
I am really disappointed in Rogues. Here's something else, they charge 8.00 extra for their 5 gal.s for the extra time it takes. They don't even say since they keep the pot, they will be nice enough and deduct the price of the pot, since by keeping it, it saves them money from buying more. They say it saves in the cost of shipping to remove it, I know because I asked details over the phone about their 5 gal.'s but decided it was way over the top on the price. The pots don't weigh but a few ounces.
They also claim that their 1 gal. potted roses weigh a little over 7 lbs. each, at least that's the way the website calculates the shipping cost's. On my second order I recieved, I re-wrapped everything and I took the boxes up to the post office for specific weights and also took the 1 gal.'s potted roses out for them to weigh seperately, along with the wrapping and they weighed out at 2.2 lbs., 2.5 lbs.,2.5 lbs., 2.5 lbs. and 3.5 lbs and a few weights right below 3.5 lbs. Now I would say that they are really cleaning up as far as the shipping goes. All in all, the lady at the post office said they are over-charging by 2 to 3 times or more. They also DO NOT INSURE what they ship.
I also found out recently that my friend was going to put in an order with them for over 400.00 based on their ratings here so I told her of my experience and she decided to go somewhere else.
Seriously folks, why pay these outragious prices when so many other vendors are honest.
I am sure they will not appreciate this negative rating but, people have a right to know, especially since they are price gouging on some of their bands... More than the cost of their 1gallons. I wonder if they did the price hikes to see if they could get away selling them at that price and if it works out, raise all the prices on all the pot sizes. I learned my lesson and want nothing further to do with them.

I have ordered 6 band-size roses from Rogue Valley over the last two years. These roses arrived very healthy and large for band size plants. Not only have they survived, but thrived, currently mature size, or close to it. This company delivers super service, fast friendly emails, great packing/fast shipping and, of course, excellent plants! I would recommend Rogue Valley to anyone.

Last Spring, I was looking for Lyda Rose online. The rosary I usually use online had none in stock. Rogue Valley was the only one I found that had it. I needed four. They only had that many in bands. I bought those and planted them immediately. They not only thrived but grew into quite substantial bushes and bloomed profusely all summer. Staff called me to ask how they were doing!! The plants, delivery, communication all were top notch. I will definitely use them again.

this was my first time ordering from rogue. the packaging was perfect as was the shipping time. i ordered several one gallon plants and several bands. the bands are very, very small, just tiny sticks, but they look healthy enough and i've transplanted them into gallon pots until they get big enough to put in the garden. of the three that came in gallon containers, only one had roots that actually filled the container, another was just acceptable and the third had a root system that would have barely filled a band pot. i'll change my rating to positive if they live but considering the shipping cost to my area, i doubt i would order again. i knew about the hefty shipping cost ahead of time, so i'm not complaining about that. i think for a person living in their area, it would be a great place to find "hard-to-find" roses. they have quite an online selection.

this spring i ordered and recvd 85-100 roses i forget exactly.
as far as selection and service I couldn't ask for better. a small percentage of mislabels. one unlabeled. but this is not negative since they go out of their way to correct their mistakes and i have acquired some great roses i might not otherwise have ordered. everyone i have spoken to on the phone has always been pleasant and resolves whatever issue there is. no run arounds or incompetence here! I give them the highest marks and recommendations with no hesitation. I don't think it's so much about problems, but how problems are resolved, and in that regard, Rogue Valley Roses reigns supreme.

Recently I ordered 8 gallon mostly climbers all of them are about 4' tall with buds and lots of new growth looking lovely.
also 10 bands that look very healty.
I left the choice of the presents up to Janet and I am glad.
She sent LaPerle and Prosperity tall and lovely and shade tolerant.
I explained to her about the dear munching here and there.
Janet explained if you can get them above the height of the deer
you should be fine. So most of the roses I ordered I plan on trailing up the huge lovely pine trees on our lovely property.
Rouge Valley Roses site is an inspiration with all the lovely photos and the attributes shown for each rose.
Will let you know how things progress for my roses and I.
The packaging was also a work of art .
I am looking out the window at a 12' Peace rose tree in bloom that the deer have left alone. I hung a wind chime on it and clipped 2 pieces of fabric softener at deer line hight.
Hope my plan works out with my newly acquired treasures.
I am very pleased with the service and the look of the lovely heirlooms.

I ordered 5 roses (one gallon and 4 bands). The gallon looks great. Three of the bands range from great to acceptable. The fourth is a rooted cutting with a few wilted leaves and no branches at all. It looks healthy and with time will probably grow into a rose bush.

The second problem is that they offer a free band with every 4 purchased, but my free band was not included with my order, nor was there any explanation included.

I have e-mailed and will update when I hear from them. I have no reason to think they will not remedy these complaints.

My first time ordering from Rogue Valley went smoothly, good website, good service.

I am a bit disappointed in the size of the bands however. Only half the diameter of a pencil and one with no signs of new growth, the other three do have some new growth buds. I'll buy from there again, but the bands should be a last resort only option.

I ordered two roses from Rogue Valley this season, and had questions prior to my order. Janet, the owner, got back to me quickly even though it was a holiday weekend. She spent a good deal of time with me on the phone, and I got the impression she was a very conscientious lady concerned with customer satisfaction and good business practices.

My two roses came delivered exactly on time. They were the smallest size available--bands--but I potted them up into larger pots a couple of days later in good soil, and they immediately took off. Both have put out lots of growth and some preliminary blooms in a very short time. I am completely satisfied with these roses, and would not hesitate to order again. The Rogue Valley website is great. I LOVE their special sidebar features, with special uses categories such as 'shade tolerant', 'thornless', 'difficult situations', etc. That is such a great resource, and not frequently offered by other nurseries. I have already spent alot of time clicking around within those categories and have learned so much. I appreciate the fact that Rogue Valley shares their knowledge with their customers, and I most definitely will continue to do business with this company in the future.

I bought an Eugene de Beauharnais rose in a band size from this company. The plant didn't make it so I contacted the company. They called me and after answering their questions, they offered to replace my plant if I paid for the shipping. I also paid for an upgrade from a band to a gallon size. I receive my replacement plant last week and it is beautiful. They are very professional and I am highly impressed with their customer service. Will sure recommend and buy from again.

I ordered 4 bands...they look great and are already starting to get buds on two of them...I placed the order and they were shipped with in a week,plus they were shipped when they said they would be and are very happy and healthy...3 of them are very large for bands only one is small,but I'm sure it will catch up to the others soon...I will order from them again...:-)

I ordered 5 roses from this company last month, it was my first time ordering from them and I was really pleased overall. The roses were gorgeous, the gallon size ones arrived blooming beautifully and they were all healthy and in good condition after shipment. Janet even called me on the phone to answer some questions I had. What wonderful customer service! I am looking forward to ordering from this company again in the spring.

I ordered several roses from Rogue Valley Roses in mid June. Email communication was quick and excellant. My roses arrive quickly and in good shape despite the hot weather we were having when they arrived. They were larger than the own-roots from the other companies that I've ordered from this year.

I planted the roses soon after they arrived and they are thriving. They have more then doubled in size and are getting ready to bloom for the first time.

I'm on they're waiting list for several more roses and I'm looking forward to receiving them next spring.

I wouldn't hesitate to order from this company again.
