| Positive | stellamae (7 reviews) | On May 20, 2003, stellamae Beaver Dams, NY wrote: I went to the nursrey and picked out our trees, the nursery staff was very helpful, even told us 2 of the trees on our list should not be purchased for our area. The trees were very large and appear healthy. The store is clean and well stocked. I will certainly buy more trees and plants from them. |
| Neutral | BerryGuy (2 reviews) | On May 7, 2003, BerryGuy wrote: Fairly impressed with my order. Packaging was excellent. On May 26th, 2003, BerryGuy changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following: It appears that the Honeyberry plants I ordered did not survive. They were pretty small... less than 12 inches and only had a couple stringy roots on them. Also, the pixwell gooseberry was a lot smaller than I expected and only had a couple stringy roots. It has managed to survive but, the leaves that have formed are smaller than a dime. The catalogue claims that it will produce berries 1 year after planting. With the plants current size, I find that highly unlikely. Everything else I ordered is excellent and doing good. |
| Positive | abcsoup (3 reviews) | On May 6, 2003, abcsoup wrote: I ordered four apple trees and 12 Fredonia grape plants from Miller Nurseries. They arrived yesterday, very nicely wrapped and packaged...the roots to all of them were nice and moist, and they included a booklet with instructions and general directions on planting all sorts of things...it was very helpful! I will definitely be ordering from them again in the future!!!! |
| Positive | Sosa (11 reviews) | On Apr 23, 2003, Sosa wrote: The rasberry plants were good size and all arrived in good condition at the proper time in excellant packing materials. Last year's blueberry order was also very good. They did well the first year and am looking forward to this year as they wintered well in a real tough winter. Miller seems to be a real good outfit. On May 11th, 2003, Sosa added the following: I received my apple tree order this week. They were good looking bare root trees. Each was about 4 feet tall, with good roots, properly pruned and well packed. After three orders over two years I remain happy. |
| Negative | T_Hartsox (1 review) | On Apr 22, 2003, T_Hartsox wrote: I've just received a large order I placed last year. Five of the trees were damaged in that they had broken limbs and one apple tree was broken completely in two at the root stock! |
| Positive | Barbarae (7 reviews) | On Apr 21, 2003, Barbarae wrote: I ordered a selection of blueberry plants last year. They were wonderful-looking when they arrived. Through no fault of Miller's Nursery, I lost two (we had drought and watering restrictions). |
| Neutral | cverch (3 reviews) | On Apr 16, 2003, cverch wrote: I ordered 3 roses because of a great price they were offering. Now 1 month after receiving them, they still show no signs of life. Even the shabby looking ones I received from Gurneys are flourishing and they were put in weeks before and had to survive a few deep freezes. On July 30th, 2003, cverch changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: I have to admit that Miller Nurseries checks out what is happening on this website. They contacted me shortly after I had posted my comments. As for an update on the roses, the ones from Gurneys are doing great, 2 of the Miller roses are doing ok at best, but the 3rd from Miller is doing very poorly - but it is alive (some what). So I change my negative to a neutral based on their customer service. |
| Neutral | enilniah (7 reviews) | On Apr 8, 2003, enilniah Rockford, OH wrote: very prompt service, quick to answer any questions, and really great stock. This is the first year we ordered from this company and will do so again. The apple tree was one of the best we have ever received. On September 1st, 2004, enilniah added the following: this spring we ordered several plants and trees from this company, we lost 2 of the cherry trees this summer, and they are being replaced this fall with no problems. We have found this company to give excellent service, and are very polite when making inquiries. Will continue to buy from them. The trees and blueberries we received from them this spring were of good size, well packaged, and very healthy looking On March 23rd, 2006, enilniah changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following: they replaced 2 of the fingerlakes peaches that had died, the replacement plants sent last spring did not look to healthy when we planted them, and did not leaf out at all. by summers end they were completely dead, my husband who normally loves the stock we have from this company, was extremely disappointed, We will probably try them again in the future, but not for peach trees. I will say they are good at replacement usually and you usually get very healthy stock. The apple trees were have from them are doing very well. |
| Positive | Hogwaump (3 reviews) | On Apr 4, 2003, Hogwaump Rosedale, WV (Zone 7b) wrote: I ordered a Brown Turkey fig tree because of their very low price. The tree I received was pre-pruned and about 4 feet tall with excellent root stock - probably the best tree I have ever received via mail order. On April 26th, 2003, Hogwaump added the following: Just received two Beach Plum Tree/shrubs - came in happy and healthy. Also, they have a great price on trunk protectors. |

| Neutral | LauraJ (9 reviews) | On Feb 20, 2003, LauraJ Northville, MI wrote: This nursery came highly recommended by a source I trust so I sent for their 2003 catalog, and sure enough it contains lots of trees and shrubs that I'm interested in -- including several pages of apple trees and blueberries -- unfortunately, 99 percent of the plant descriptions do NOT include the scientific (Latin) name!! Why, I wonder?! It came as quite a surprise. I can't place an order without knowing exactly what I'm getting. I hope they read this and change next year's catalog! |
| Positive | cathyb53 (14 reviews) | On Feb 3, 2003, cathyb53 Newfield, NY (Zone 5a) wrote: I have been very impressed by my one experience ordering from Miller's. Because they are a pleasant couple of hours' drive away, I picked up my order of 3 currant and 4 gooseberry bushes at their nursery. I was very impressed by what I saw there: these were obviously very knowledgeable growers, not just middlemen for stock grown elsewhere. The warehouse was a large barn, neatly organized & full of young fruit stock; all plant material was handled very carefully, and I was able to get excellent on-the-spot information as well as very thorough printed instruction with my little bushes. I have never seen such healthy, ready-to-grow stock! I followed all the planting instructions carefully, and the plants grew insanely well (despite getting considerably less sunlight then they would like). I lost one during its first summer - my fault, I think it didn't get enough water because of where I'd planted it - but the rest all came through their first winter and even bore some fruit that first summer. Now, maybe 4 years later, all the bushes are thriving, and the currants grow so thickly that I can hardly keep the branches off the ground! We have yet to get a chance to eat many gooseberries, because of the groundhogs that always beat us to them, but they too are loaded with fruit. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Miller's again - if only I had the space/sun for more fruit! On April 24th, 2007, cathyb53 added the following: Another great experience with Miller's! Last spring I again went to their nursery, and bought 4 lilacs, a Viburnum, and 3 Clematis for my new garden. All were impressively healthy and husky when I purchased them, and have settled in and done fine over the winter, despite some very strange weather here. The lilacs & viburnum are just starting to leaf out now, and it looks they're off to a good start. Will go up & get more this year - now I have 5 sunny acres, so will eventually make an orchard. |

| Positive | RyanB (3 reviews) | On Jan 12, 2003, RyanB wrote: I have ordered from Miller's on three occasions, plants including strawberries, raspberries, grapes, several types of fruit trees, and blueberry bushes. They have a guarantee on all their plants that they will grow the first year, and they stand behind it. The second order I made, several trees died due to a very hot, dry summer. When I wrote to tell them, they said they would replace the trees the following spring, which they did. I am very pleased with the quality of both their products and their service. |
| Positive | kwenge (12 reviews) | On Dec 30, 2002, kwenge Pecatonica, IL wrote: Pear trees I ordered were large and well-shaped; the raspberries and blackberries were also of good quality. All plants arrived in excellent condition. |

| Positive | isuhort (15 reviews) | On Sep 22, 2002, isuhort wrote: Fruit trees were good size for the money. Trees arrived in good condition. Sugar maple was very tiny, which was surprising. Overall, I was satisfied with the products that I received from the company. Thumbs up. |
| Positive | JamesWilcox (1 review) | On Aug 11, 2002, JamesWilcox wrote: Planted 4 Canadice and 2 Concord grapes from Miller in Spring 1999 and they are doing fabulously well in Syracuse NY, just following instructions in the free booklet. Put in another 6 Canadice this spring and they look great as well. Have never had a problem with Miller stock, even fruit trees and blueberries. Have been pleased with Miller's treatment (some free replacements required) for over 30 years |
| Negative | RobertPaul (1 review) | On May 1, 2002, RobertPaul wrote: I have order grape vines from millers since 1973. Now and then, all you get from them is concord vines no matter what you order. I for one will never order from them ever again. I'm tired of digging up concords. |
| Negative | NAOMIBUELIN (3 reviews) | On May 1, 2002, NAOMIBUELIN Yadkinville, NC (Zone 7a) wrote: I was not kept informed in a timely manner as to what was taking my order so long to get here. I ordered a tree from Miller's and the same tree from another nursery on the same exact day. The one I ordered from Johnsons nursery came (believe it or not) 3 days later! As for Miller's I finally got an e-mail saying (a month later) We are out of stock. Sorry! If I knew they were out of stock a month ago I would have bought both trees from Johnson's instead. Now I have a hole dug for a tree they cant send me. BIG WASTE OF MY TIME! |
| Positive | lupinelover (15 reviews) | On Apr 21, 2002, lupinelover Grove City, OH (Zone 6a) wrote: I ordered from this company several times; they consistently sent me high quality trees and shrubs (a couple of which later died due to my physical limitations at the time). When I ordered from them a year after that, they inquired how previous orders were doing, I described what had happened (during a severe drought, I was unable to keep them watered because I was on crutches the entire summer) they offered me a gift certificate to replace the plants that had died, sorely due to my lack of care! Wonderful company to deal with. Just wish they didn't waste so much postage sending me multiple catalogues every year. |
| Positive | Lysne (5 reviews) | On Jan 9, 2002, Lysne Ferryville, WI wrote: Have ordered fruit trees from this company on several occasions. Stock has always arrived well packed and was excellent quality. Just wish they sent stock with labels that didn't instantly fade in the sun. A great source for "antique" apples, as well as many standard varieties. |
| Positive | JohnH (1 review) | On Jan 4, 2002, JohnH wrote: I have ordered from this company for 10 years and have always received high quality plants and excellent service. The plants arrive in better shape than Stark Bros., and in *much* better shape than Gurney's. |
| Negative | MCKENZIEKELLY (2 reviews) | On Dec 1, 2001, MCKENZIEKELLY wrote: No less than 3 years ago did we begin to buy trees from Miller, and when we first ordered from them we received the most beautiful stock! To this day it is the most beautiful, hearty and healthy trees in our yard. However, with each order since then, the stock we have received has dwindled worse and worse until all that is received is of less quality than twigs!!! Even when stock is replaced, it arrives to you in worse shape than the first that you originally ordered! (If that's even possible!) I don't know if they've been bought out, or are just trying to win the metal for worst stock available, but PLEASE, save yourself some heartache and buy elsewhere!!! Unless you actually want the worst stock in the country, then by all means, buy from them. But it's your nightmare! |
| Negative | CharlesBush (1 review) | On Jul 1, 2001, CharlesBush wrote: My comment on Millers Nurseries is negative. I ordered raspberries and 4 apples. The berries arrived very dry and likewise trees. Had two trees die-off and sent money in to cover replacement berries. Replacement plants arrived dry as a bone and died as well. Stay away. |
| Neutral | CharlieElgin (3 reviews) | On Feb 1, 2001, CharlieElgin wrote: In past years most plants have been of good to very good quality, however this past spring my wife ordered a Northern Spy apple, which had a broken limb and the bark was off at the graft. I planted the tree anyway thinking I may have a rootstock to graft. The limb was broken in packing or shipment but the bark looked as if a mouse had eaten it. The tree showed no sign of life after several weeks, so I called. As requested, I mailed a check to cover shipping cost. The replacement tree arrived a short time later. It seemed to be completely dead. It was soaked 5 or 6 hours before planting but no buds ever opened. I never contacted Miller after the second tree as I thought it was useless. The company does not seem to be the same as it was 10 to 15 years before my last order in 97. |
| Positive | EricGOsterberg (4 reviews) | On Feb 1, 2001, EricGOsterberg wrote: I have ordered occasionally from Miller's for 22 years and have always received good quality fruits, ornamentals, and ground covers. Maybe sharing information on the Internet will help good quality nurseries to continue to send good stock and inform the not so good quality nurseries to send good stock. Shipping at the right time and packaging for ease of planting is a plus. |
| Positive | HaroldWalker (2 reviews) | On Nov 15, 2000, HaroldWalker wrote: Have bought from Millers for many a long year and must say that I have never ever received better quality "plantings". My most recent plantings went into the ground November 12, 2000. The root balls were fabulous. I totally agree with a previous writer that Miller's bare root stock is by far better than most potted plants. I think I should say "root ball" rather than "bare root". |
| Positive | JoeMaska (2 reviews) | On Apr 1, 2000, JoeMaska wrote: I ordered (several trees) Miller's of Canandaigua N.Y. The trees have always been shipped with proper root protection and all have done quite well except for the cherry trees, and I am not sure if the soil or bad luck is to blame. Apple production is very good, peaches come in good if the spring weather is not too cold or wet and the plum tree is leaning from the weight of the past couple of years' crops. Nut trees are better each year. My 2 American Elms are now over 20 feet tall and still going strong. |
| Positive | TomEngel (7 reviews) | On Apr 1, 2000, TomEngel wrote: I just received by rose order from Millers and am delighted. The Heritage roses and Fairy roses were well packed and arrived in excellent condition. There are at least three thick canes per bare root and the root system looks well. Prices are very fair. And they are on time to plant. Will order again from them. |
| Positive | CarolPraissman (2 reviews) | On Feb 1, 2000, CarolPraissman wrote: I have ordered many times from Miller Nursery in upstate N.Y. & have found them to have the highest quality stock & the best customer service around! I heartily recommend them to anyone who is considering ordering from a catalog. My Curl-free Peach Tree had the biggest, juiciest, best- textured peaches I can remember since childhood. Anything that failed to thrive was replaced no-questions-asked. (And replaced with excellent quality stock.) This is a company that will continue to get my business! |

| Negative | Dr_j2 (1 review) | On Apr 1, 1999, Dr_j2 wrote: Don't order from them. The quality of the fruit trees we have received for the past two years has been POOR to say the least! I just received a Reliance Peach and a Stella Cherry from them. They are literally sticks with no branches. Only the cherry is the slightest bit green with buds. This is twice now that this has occurred. It's too bad--we had such good luck with the trees we ordered in '96. |
| Positive | BethGriffitts (1 review) | On Feb 1, 1999, BethGriffitts wrote: I ordered apple trees, raspberries, strawberries, grapes and an English rose. All grew, unfortunately they were eaten by elk and deer in subsequent winters, but that is not Miller's fault. When I called them with questions they were very nice about answering them. I would order from them again. |
