Comments regarding Flora Exotica

I've been a repeated online customer of Perry at FloraExotica. I always tell my family and friends to get their plants from there. I've purchased a bunch of tropical plants from Perry, and I've never been disappointed with any of my orders. I had no issues with emailing Perry. There were a couple of times when his email responses were a bit slow, but that's totally understandable during the busy season. Most importantly, Perry did an excellent job packing the plants, even though it was shipped through the mail, they arrived in perfect condition! I'm really impressed with how healthy and well-preserved the plants are when they arrive in the mail even in the hottest weather condition. I'll definitely be buying again!

I ordered seeds on Sept. 12 from Flora Exotica's Dollar Seed Store. That these seeds are offered at all--and at such an unbelievable price-- shows remarkable generosity. They can't be making money doing this. I had ordered seeds from them previously--and was able to experiment-with some success- with plants that would be too riskily expensive for me just to try out otherwise.
I immediately got a receipt from Paypal (not the company) confirming my $35 order and showing that my card was charged.
After a month, I inquired about the status of the order. I didn't expect speedy delivery. I just wanted to know if my order had actually been received. I heard nothing. Over the next weeks I tried every way I could to contact the company. Repeated e-mails, repeated calls and voicemails to every form of posted contact information. To my shame-my messages became more impatient and annoyed. I was acting in a way I hated. Finally, I decided to go through Paypal for a refund. There, I discovered that Flora Exotica had refunded my $35 on Oct. 23. I'm glad to get my money back (though I really wanted the seeds) but why were they unable to send a brief, 2 minute, e-mail message? If they are no longer providing seeds, or if my order couldn't be filled, that's fine. Let me know. Instead, I expended a lot of time and energy, and worse, found myself turning into a harridan. Also, now that I have a better idea of what exotic plants will thrive in my house, I would like to buy some of their small plants as well as seeds--but I don't feel that I can deal with this company again.

Perry and the team at FloraExotica shipped my beautiful Plumeria as promised - they did a great job packing the plant and even shipped by Canada Post it arrived in fantastic shape! Would definitely buy again!

Great service. Quick delivery of two good quality Meyer lemon and yuzu citrus plants.

I was a bit skeptical ordering from the website, but decided to give it a chance. Perry was quick and responsive to my queries via email and the plants arrived in great condition. I'd definitely order again.

Flora exotica carries a wide range of plants - it’s hard to pick just one.. so I didn’t. I ordered the cacao and vanilla with a high amount of skepticism, as I had attempted to order cacao elsewhere in the past. These plants made it through 5 provinces in a very short period of time, and were well packed and so healthy! Despite some browning on the cacao leaves - it is healthy and happy and will return to green now that it’s back in the sun. The vanilla was exactly as promised, and then some.
The prices are affordable and shipping was no problem, even in November!
I am very impressed and will order from here again.

I purchased from both DollarSeed and Flora Exotica this summer. Plants arrived quickly and most seeds grew (sour sop and passion fruits' seeds). Looking forward to getiing more exotic plants next year. Thank you very much for you guys, I now have a bbq betel leaf and chocolate plant.

I recently ordered two rare plants from Flora Exotica. I was little hesitant to order because I was not sure as to the condition of the plants in shipping. I was happy they were promptly shipped on the day of the order by Canada Post expedited parcel with tracking. The parcel got here quickly and the plants in the parcel were in very good condition. So I am happy with the response and the result.

Barbados Cherry tree safely packaged and delivered to my door without issues. Flowered in less than a year. Great communication with Perry!

Flora Exotica gave excellent, prompt and accurate replies. Perry is no nonsense, and very informative (how to take care of plants) and to top it off and the best part, the plants are GORGEOUS. I have had a Calomondin plant for 25 years and was desperately searching for replacement ones. I received beautiful/healthy/flowering trees. I am beyond happy! Would definitely recommend.

I ordered a few plants for Flora and was pleasantly surprised at the fast shipment and professional packaging. The plants were healthy, decent size and in excellent condition when they arrived.

Changed their pot outside a few weeks later and sadly they were attacked by spider mites and I couldn't understand why they were dying. So I emailed Perry at Flora and he was very detailed and helped me out of the mess. Plants are now healthy again and growing well.

Will definitely purchase from them again, overall a very good experience.

I made quite a substantial order from this nursery last year (around 22 plants) and was totally surprised with the size and quality of the plants sent.
These plants (mainly citrus) were well cultivated and all had extensive root systems. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future and have started preparing my next order for next spring.
There are many nurseries I have ordered from over the years (including overseas) and this nursery is one of my top five favourites by far.

Excellent Company! A while back I placed an order for a meyer lemon and most recently I purchased a calamondin orange and I can't say enough positive things about my experiences. Both orders were shipped very quickly and were in excellent condition. They looked so green and healthy! Can't wait to order more in the future.

Recently I ordered two Finger Lime plants from Perry. The plants were promptly shipped the same day I paid. I received them in less than a week and was so delighted that the plants were very well packed and very healthy looking with lots of very green leaves compared to the ones that I bought a week ago from my local nursery prior to my order from Flora Exotica.

I have been a customer of Perry since 2013 and I must say that he did an awesome job in providing healthy plants, meticulous packaging and an excellent prompt service.

I must also add that his pricing is reasonable for the exotic rare tropicals and other plants.

I ordered a Variegated Monstera from Flora Exotica. Email communication was fast and reliable — I inquired about the availability of the plant and received a response within a few hours. I placed my order the next day and quickly received confirmation of payment. Shipment was super fast (one day for shipping to Toronto). The plant was carefully and meticulously packed, and it arrived in excellent condition. I would absolutely order from Flora Exotica again.

Have been trying to contact Flora Exotica for a number of weeks. Wanted to find out if they had stock on a Variegated Monstera Deliciosa, as they are very rare I wanted to confirm they had them and place an order. Haven't heard anything back after several emails.

I'm not sure how it is to purchase FloraExotica if you're local to them, maybe it is not bad and that can explain the number of positive reviews. But I certainly can't call my experiences positive.

The one thing that draws me to FloraExotica is that they are a Canadian vendor with an extensive selection of plants. They have plants are easy to find in the US and other markets, but as hobbyists it is next to impossible to consider importing these for the sake of having a nice plant on the patio. FloraExotica at least offers a nice selection.

But good luck trying to buy any of those plants.

Email after email after email will just get ignored. Not even an acknowledgment or any kind of promise to get back soon. If you're lucky and get a reply with a price and then send a payment, it starts the cycle of being ignored all over again. Email after email asking for an update will receive no reply.

My advice to anyone considering a purchase from this vendor, unless you have the luxury of time on your side or don't mind being ignored for weeks on end, you might have better results if you consider buying from someone else.

I had a fantastic experience at Flora Exotica !
When I called Perry he invited me to one of his greenhouses where I went to choose an exotic plant as a Christmas gift.
There was a huge choice of exotic fruit and flowering plants of all sizes and prices. Perry took the time to answer all my questions and helped me choose an appropriate plant for my nephew. He followed up with an email of care instructions - so very helpful ! Really great service from a man clearly passionate about plants. I would highly recommend Flora Exotica !!

I ordered 2 Medinilla Magnificas from Perry on two separate occasions. These plants are very difficult to find and I was delighted that he had them in stock. He packed them up so well, I was amazed. They arrived exactly when he predicted and a day earlier for my last order. The plants were very healthy, the soil around the plant moist and well wrapped from spillage. The leaves were perfect, not a bend or break in them. I loved that Perry gave me a tracking number so I could follow along where my order way. A wonderful experience. I will be ordering from him again. I also ordered seeds from the onedollarseed store in the past, and the seeds were mailed out quickly and I was very happy with the germination rate. I will be ordering blood lilly bulbs from him in the new year. I cant get enough of Flora Exotica :)

Ordering from Perry was quick and easy. I ordered:

I exchanged e-mails with Perry on a Sunday, the order shipped on Monday, and arrived on Friday morning. The plants were securely packed and in perfect condition.

I received my vanilla plant yesterday by Canada Post. It's in excellent condition, and I am looking forward to watching it grow. I experienced a speedy response and good service from Perry. I recommend this company to anyone that is looking for an exotic plant.

In regard to the delivery, I was admittedly skeptical at first, but was pleasantly surprised in the end. The plant came in a small box, with the pot secured to the corner of the box with packing tape. The soil and pot were housed in a tightly secured plastic bag with packing foam keeping the soil in place. The plant itself came with a stick keeping the leaves and vine in place. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE PLANT AT ALL. I am very impressed, and look forward to ordering from them again.

As others have mentioned the ordering process is a tad vexing , after emailing a few times over a course of month , finally got hold of Perry on phone and got the order placed promptly .
Again took a few tries mail and finally phone to reach him for withdrawing the order payment .
The plants arrived (3 Citrus + 1 Neem) expertly packed with no damage and good size (higher end of each plant size range) .

In summary , its an effort to reach Perry , but once you get through he is very cordial and the product quality is great .

I was reluctant to order plants online as I've never done so before. But having read so many positive reviews about flora exotica I decided to go ahead.
My experience was positive at first with Perry upon making my order.
The minute i paid it became difficult to contact him and get any confirmation.

I ordered my plants on May 3rd and still have not received any information about when my items will be shipped and when I am to expect them in the mail.

I attempted to email all the email addresses provided and got automated replies stating the company is busy with Mother's Day and will ship the items after. It's well after Mother's Day now and I emailed Perry again. Receiving another automated reply stating the company is busy participating in a garden expo and will get back to me after. I tried calling and it went straight to voicemail with a full inbox so I couldn't even leave a message.

I have to admit it is very nerve wracking having paid $200 and absolutely not knowing when I am to expect my plants. Even if the plants are perfect when they arrive, I think the online ordering process experience needs to improve so customers atleast get a confirmation of payment and an expected date of arrival instead of automated replies.

So far so good, Perry said my plants expect to ship on Tuesday, March 29th, as the weather here is predicted to be above freezing. My biggest worry is my plants will be damaged in shipping, and they wont be mature and ready to ship as stated... crossing my fingers! This is my first time dealing with a mail order nursery.

I ordered a total of 5 exotic plants from Flora Exotica within the last four months and all came in perfect conditions and within the specific
time. I couldn't express more thanks to Perry (owner) and recommend him to anyone who need exotic plants or any to that effect.

I was looking for a specific plant and in my Google search came across FloraExotica. Through shipping charges and last minute additions to my order...Perry answered my inquiries in a courteous timely manner. I received my order in 2 days from 3 provinces away. They were packaged extremely well and the plants were so much bigger than what the description had stated.
I was so pleased that I immediately placed another order...and again, the plants exceeded my expectations.

I debated between a Neutral or Negative but decided on Neutral as I still have hope my experience with Flora Exotica will turn out well.

A previous reviewer stated it's a hit-and-miss when trying to contact Perry, and so far after a combination of emails, phone calls and faxes starting from April 8, it's been 1 hit and 6 misses. My only reply from Perry was on April 12, in response to a fax. He emailed me to let me know that the Michelia alba I wanted was available but I would have to wait for warmer weather in May before he could ship, and if I wanted it I should send a PayPal payment. I emailed him back the same day saying I'd sent him a payment and May delivery was ok. No response but I figured there was lots of time for him to get back to me about order/payment confirmation and shipping dates, plus I could always reach him through fax.

On May 8 I tried to fax Flora Exotica to check on my order but the fax machine had been disconnected, and the number listed on the website didn't take voicemail. I've tried calling the cell phone but that mailbox is full. If it wasn't for the previous reviewer who received an order last month, I wouldn't know whether the company is still in business.

Mail ordering should not be this difficult. I hope I will hear back from Perry and get my order completed.

We are at the peak of mail-order season. Along with local events at the botanical garden, on Mothers' Day, and the growing of thousands of plants, it is hard to keep up with the work.

The email inbox will get flooded as soon as it is cleared, and the voice mail will get full quickly. The fax machine sometimes get disconnected from WiFi and has to be restarted.

Some plants are too sensitive to cold temperature to be shipped now. Even though BC and QC are warm, somewhere along the truck route still gets frozen temperature at night.

This will be my 3rd transaction with FloraExotica. When you get receive your order, they are generally in good condition. However, getting in touch with them is a hit-miss experience. It takes them a while to respond to emails, the voicemail is typically full. It can get frustrating trying to establish contact.

I ordered a few plants from FloraExotica a year ago and unfortunately, some of the plants did not make it in good shape to me due to to unforeseen shipping delays and it was a really hot summer. Perry was generous enough and offered to ship replacement plants this year.

I emailed them on Oct 7 this year to remind them about the replacement plants and place an additional order. Spoke with Perry a week later at which time he said he has checked inventory and will send me a price quote the next day. Today is Oct 24 and I still have not been able to establish contact with FloraExotica. Sigh! I just hope I get my plants before the growing season is over to give them a better chance of surviving the coming winter.
