They may seem a little pricey, but if you buy in quantity they are really half price, and well worth it. They also have many in the lower price range that are gorgeous. You don't have to spend 20.00+ per iris to get a beautiful show. The iris I have received from them have consistently THRIVED! |

Rhizomes are always huge, healthy, and correctly labled. Their catalogue is beautiful, if a bit superfluous. Their prices are quite steep unless you order a set minimum, after which the price is cut in half. This puts their prices well in line with that of other suppliers. Their selection is not likely to impress a seasoned iris fancier, but for someone just taking the plunge into the wonderful world of bearded iris, Schreiners cant be beaten. |

If a cultivar has low bud count, they're upfront about it! And when it says a cultivar is vigorous, they're not kidding. The rhizomes are fresh, healthy and expertly packaged. I've received countless comments about my "special" iris from passers-by. |

They also have one of the best picture catalogs in the iris industry and worth paying for even if you never order an iris. |
| Positive | JeanettePryor (9 reviews) | On Jul 1, 2001, JeanettePryor Lone Tree, CO wrote: My first order from Schreiner's Iris arrived last week, one for 3 Batiq Iris. The rhizomes were each the size of a medium to LARGE onion. This company really does sends out extremely large and healthy specimens. Now I just have to get my beds ready for the other 50 or so that are coming. My second and much larger order from Schreiner's Iris arrived before I was physically ready for it. The plants were enormous and healthy. By the time I went to plant them in late September, they had little bugs on them, but still seemed healthy. Unfortunately, I lost over half the ones I planted. This was probably due primarily to my own mistakes. But I reported the loss to Schreiner's and they scheduled full replacement for July. This time, I got in gear and had all the beds completely ready for the new plants, with the exception of where I was going to place the "Tiny Tots" Collection. I figured that any company that would replace their plants in good faith warranted another order, so I found space for an additional order of over $200 (which means twice the plants since once you order over $80 in red star iris, you get them for half price) to be shipped at the same time as the replacements. They all arrived on the week stated by their reminder postcard and were in excellent shape, size and packaging, and well-labeled as before. The replacements weren't any smaller than the new ones I had ordered. This time, I had all the large iris in the ground with my little plastic markers within 24 hours of receiving them. I got the other area enlarged and planted the collection within 3 days of receipt. So far, all seem to be doing fine and growing. The iris from last year that did manage to produce bloom stalks after our May 20th blizzard were better than the photos (which are great anyway!) and seemed to be blooming at the appointed time. Schreiner's certainly gets an A+++ rating from me. [update late summer] By the way, my irises from Schreiner's are doing great this year. I have been extraordinarily protective and watchful over the condition of their beds so that I don't repeat last year's mistakes! |

| Neutral | KayDeVane (1 review) | On Feb 1, 2000, KayDeVane wrote: Thank you for this information. This is something that most of these companies don't understand. When you go online you have a onetime shot at capturing the public's attention. I bought from Schreiners about 25 years ago. I saw that they had a web site and went there and it is not up and running. I am an online rep with a company and I can guarantee if you lose out on that first contact, some people will not return. Since I had done business with them numerous times I knew their business practice and plants to be both sound. Because nothing was popping up, I though perhaps they had gone out of business. They should be advised they need to get their online catalog up and running. |

Last year I went crazy and ordered Schreiner's and…[several other iris nurseries.]All rhizomes arrived in comparable good condition. I would order irises from any of these companies again; but in this climate, I would ask to have them shipped in late September. |

The stock was quite large and most bloomed the first spring. They were most friendly and informative over the phone when I placed my first order. And they also sent many extras that I just loved. My only complaint is not with them but that my husband won't make my iris bed larger. I will continue to order from them. And I can't wait till they bloom this year so I can see the new varieties I received last fall! |
| Negative | JulieHardgrove (3 reviews) | On Feb 1, 1997, JulieHardgrove wrote: In late summer '95, I saw an ad for Schreiners in one of the gardening magazines. The iris were pretty, the price seemed reasonable. I wasn't familiar with the company but decided to take a chance and send in an order. What I got in return was a box of 20 or so slightly blemished iris AND hundreds and hundreds of lively, well-nourished APHIDS!I wanted to destroy the entire package before the livestock escaped! What I did first, though, was call the company and tell them what happened. I expected them to ship me new, aphid-free plants. WRONG! The woman answering the phone said I should rinse the irises in a bleach and water solution, then plant them. I said I wanted either replacement plants or a refund of my money. She said they'd send me a refund, but I had to return the irises, first.I called our County Cooperative Extension Service to see what they thought about the bleach idea. They pointed out that aphids can infect plants with disease, and suggested that I send the iris back and not deal with that company anymore. (The Extension Service also sent me some literature about diseases aphids can transmit to plants. Since the plants could have been diseased -- why take the chance???).It was a pain to pack up the iris and send them back. I sent them back c.o.d. and this meant I had to go to a "real" UPS office -- not one ofthe local stores that offers UPS service. The nearest place is about 30 miles from where I live.Schreiners sent me a refund and an apology. But, as the saying goes, "too little, too late". That was my first and last experience with Schreiners. |

The catalog offers pictures of most all varieties with descriptions. They offer price ranges for all collectors and special package deals for the beginner. The plants are large and true to description. They send extras with each order. I highly recommend. Just be prepared to want them all. |
