Dave's advise needed

Dave I just bought a crepe myrtle that is a little different than most. I believe that the name was "Queen Crepe Myrtle" and also that its from China. It's one with large leaves and kind of tropical looking. Have you ever heard of such a crepe? I also just found one of the Whitcombs 'dynomite'!!!! It was a tree the guy used for propigation. It was two counties away. These things are hard to find.

I sure have heard of the Queen's Crepe Myrtle, and it's actually a different species than the regular Crepe Myrtle most are familiar with.

The tree you are now in possession of is a Lagerstroemia speciosa. Enjoy it!! It's not hardy up here, otherwise I'd have a specimen of my own. :-) From what I've read, it's only hardy up to zone 10. Good luck with yours in your zone 9!

I hope it lives. I've seen a few around that look pretty old, nowhere near 30ft though. There's one in a yard near my college that is even growing under an huge oak tree. It's very lop-sided, but near 15-20 ft. Thanks.

MG, I would just love to see a picture, it sounds very pretty! I love my regulars, and am wondering what this looks like, I've never heard of it.

I'm also interested in seeing some pictures. I added the tree, with some minimal information, to the plants database a few weeks ago, hoping someone else with a picture would add one. :-)

Well I will post a pic, but I had to replant it a few days after I bought it. The soil in the pot it came in wouldn't hold any water. I poured it in and straight out it came. All the leaves fell off in about two days. I replanted it in a 15 gal pot and it is growing back nicely. All my other crepes still are getting a few more buds, so I hope this will also.
