Here's what I picked today. Never tried fried green tomatoes before, so I picked a few ugly ones for a test run. Picked a few Bells as well. The red one was a half of a pound....pretty big for a pepper.

Ray, all I can say about your plants is---goolla!! Beautiful, hope mine do half as well.
Ray: I love those peppers, they look great, my chocolate cherry tomatoes are a bit bigger than the cherry tomatoes I've seen, kind of in between a medium tomato and a cherry tomato actually. Could be the hot sauce that did it on my weight too Ray, I have heard that hot peppers are great for those on a diet . LOL

great looking zucchini there Ray, I saw silk on my corn today I also took the totes off the boards and cement blocks, I also saw a baby melon forming too. Soon, I'll be out in the garden 24/7. LOL

Not all was good in the garden today. Having the sun out these past few days after almost a month of drizzly, overcast weather has really kicked the diseases into gear. Looks as if 8 tomato plants have late blight and 2 others looking diseased but not blight. Something else. Some squash has powdery mildew, not to worried about that though. As with cucumbers, I'm already sick of them.....so are my friends, co-workers and neighbors lol So it looks like I will be replanting a few things these next few weeks.
Nice Joy.....my melons are growing fast. They're softball sized now :) They say about 3 weeks to harvest once you see the silk. Once my corn is done, I'm definitely planting more.
Ok, this settles it. I'm coming over to raid your garden. What time do you go to sleep?
:)
Ray: I keep hearing snap, crackle and pop when I water them, due to them being so tall and having to dig around for the water fill tube. LOL And not many ears that I can see, I'm glad I moved them though, they were too close together, I noticed that even though I have a trellis for the cukes, I didn't leave much room to squeeze in between the HEBs to water them, so, gotta be an acrobat with them for the moment, and finding cukes everywhere. LOL This heat is terrible also, I have to do my watering in stints in the evening to get them all watered also. I think with the melons, the ones I planted in the coir in the lay flat bags will beat the others out planted another way.
With summer well on the way, I'm getting everything into HEBs, EBs, GPs and out of the lay flat bags, except for the melons. I'm seeing more and more bugs with the heat and the closer the plant is to the ground the more unmerciful the bugs are. I love my tables. LOL

Hahahahaa Pugz.....I'm a night owl. If you can get past the light sensors.....you are free to take what you want :) Hopefully you take the diseased tomato plants so I won't have to dispose of them lol
Joy, I'll tell you what. I filled up my corn box yesterday. I come home today and it was bone dry.....they are heavy drinkers! I would put them on a self-watering device if you could. I know I am next time.
Ray: I hear you there, I've been watering them first thing in the morning and at night, it has me wondering what to do later on when it gets really hot. I had the worst nightmare ever. I dreamed I woke up early in the morning and went out to check on all my crops and there was these huge bugs sitting in the middle of my back yard smacking their lips and my plants were all devestated. Shhheeesh.

Brrrr, Ray, been freezing over here the past week or so! Very cool during the day and still in the 50's at night. June Gloom on steroids in Lake Elsinore! Now, you watch, July 1 will come and it'll be 108 degrees.
I wasn't going to take the plants, just the fruits. Bahaha
You sure are doing great with all the food you're growing, you should be proud of yourself. Even with a few stumps of the toe with some diseases (who could control that with THIS weather?), your veggies are impressive. I love looking at pictures of tomatoes for some reason.
Sherri: It's too hot for the beach even, this humidity is terrible. I finally got 10 tomatoes transplanted in spurts. LOL
joy
Ray, wow...so do you can or pickle harvest?
Do you grow tomatoes year-round? I'm visiting my folks next week (Chula Vista) and I plan on bringing some tomato starts for them to grow (Wild Boar Farms Tomatoes). I just want to make sure it's not too late for SoCal.
Thanks!

Pugzley - After 3 days of warm sun. It drizzled most of yesterday. Now we are back to overcast gloom, with off and on humidity. The weather is just beyond weird. 50's at night and we are lucky to hit 70 during the day. If it even dares to reach 90 around here the next few months....I'm moving out of SoCal. Isn't the reason we pay all these outrageous prices because the great year round weather? Hasn't been that great this year or last. Shoot, even the year before wasn't that great.
I'm gonna super glue the veggies to the plant, so you will have to take the whole thing. I'll even put it on a dolly for you. :)

Moonglow - I need to start getting into pickling. Never tried it before. Last year I started to can hot sauce and tomato sauce. I will be doing so again once the tomatoes get into full swing.
I'm about a 1/3 of a mile from the beach so our weather is relatively mild year round. I had a few tomato and pepper plants survive the winter. Chula Vista should have close to the same weather. I have started tomato plants as late as early August and they did fine. We had 70 degree temps up too Thanksgiving. No problem starting transplants in June....plenty of time for even the late-season varieties. Although I'd look for a mid-season variety. Probably get more production out of them in the long run.
Awesome! Tomatoes year-round must be really something. Thank you =).
Here's what I picked today. I gave my neighbor half of what I picked, so my pickings were twice this size. Help, I'm running out of ideas for zucchini. I've roasted, fried and steamed them. Anybody have a great recipe that I should try? I'm gonna roast and stuff my bells....one of my favorites :) With the leftovers I'm gonna make pepper and cheese omelets in the morning
Roasted, fried and steamed... what, no bread? We've been experimenting with zucchini bread recipes. Zucchini orange bread was very good. The last recipe we made was dark and rich like a cake... not particularly healthy, but tasted great.
I also grated a fresh zucchini, squeezing most the water out, then mixed it with fresh basil from the garden, parmesan, flour, an egg and a little melted butter. Mixed it up and dropped it by spoonfuls in hot oil to fry. Mmm....
Hey Jake, I guess I should have said bread as well. Lets just say that is a staple of every meal around here these days. lol
Grated zukes sounds interesting. I'm gonna give that a try. Thanks!
I'm about to cut down the 5 zuke plants I have(Powdery Mildew) and then start again. This time only going with 3.
Ray: Are those red skinned potatoes? Yumm.
joy
Yup, Red Pontiacs
I used potting soil/mix and added whatever leaves fell into the yard. It's the same soil I use for all my containers and most of my EB's http://www.ebstone.org/13_ednas.php
